Andrew Castle has been around the various media today due Emma Raducanu's success in the US Open so I guess there was nowhere to hide for the DS haters,

I have never understood their aggression against him. They even try and pick holes in the fact that he was UK number one.

RIP to Shelagh's mum.
Here's Andrew again, with Nick Ferrari! Colin in Windsor is moaning on DS about Nick 'gushing' about Emma Raducanu.

How would he get a Costco card? Don’t you have to work In a certain type of business? uve never been to one in this country, only in the US.
If you have a VAT registered company you can get one. When I used to listen to him he was always boring on about paying his VAT so he must operate as a company.

Literally anyone can get one these days as long as you have a utility bill. The 'job' thing is very long and wide as to what it includes.

Years ago I wanted a Costco card but I didn't have a utility bill. Everything is in my husbands name and we are paperless. I took my tax letters to see if they would accept them but they wouldn't. I ended up saying 'it's good enough for her majesty's government but not Costco :ROFLMAO: '

(I've since got a card but I don't use it very often)

Col's been 'researching' & has decreed that her family wouldn't be able to live here these days if they applied. :D

Yes, I saw that. What nonsense! Her father's a financier; not sure what that entails but it sounds as though the family have got a few bob. Not all Romanians who come here are refugees. It's a wonder he hasn't pointed out that she's not actually British.

It's about looking for offence, where there is none.
Some folks wake up angry I suppose.
O'Brien's show has been dire this morning.

Steve Allen has this on his wishlist for Xmas, a bottle of Gin from M&S, which lights up after being shaken.
He doesn't even like Gin 😁

With Mildred not too far behind, but not as camp.

As far as I'm aware, even though Steve is obviously gay, I don't think he has ever officially 'come out'. For what reason, we will never know but he does seem to have problems with openly gay young men who have never hidden their sexuality - calling them 'Marys' and suchlike, yet all the older gay men he was/is friends with - Dale, Biggins etc - no derogatory comments ever made about them.

I think perhaps because Steve hails from a time when making anything less than 100% positive comments about being gay was actually allowed, and didn't automatically deem you guilty of homophobia without even a trial as it does now, he probably feels he is still able to constructively criticise such characters.

Particularly if as suspected, he has provenance and knows a thing or two about said lifestyle.

It should remembered by the way that he does idolise some young male protagonists of this community who have been named previously on this thread!

You are also spot on - his mother!

The way he speaks about his mother is endearing, but it also a bit strange for someone his age who lost his mother many years ago. It is as though he still needs to garner her respect...

It may well be that his mother is the only woman he has ever had experience of living with and hence can talk about 'safely', unless you count the three young strippers he lodged with when was about 17 where life was probably a little less stable than that of his mother's.

Surely they just lunched together. I can't believe Steve would have invited Iain to dine at his flat for the reasons mentioned above, but I stand to be corrected. If this was the case, I hope Steve ordered a decent 3/4 course meal to be delivered from a local restaurant as he can't/doesn't cook.

Pretty sure Iain posted a photo from an Italian restaurant in Twickenham, where he showed him sitting opposite an empty seat, saying he was lunching with a fellow LBC presenter and that he (Iain) was early.

Majid is making the news on social media this afternoon.

This is an example from LBC but they are just trying to ride the wave....

Perhaps their hatred goes further than just Andrew and it is the sport of tennis that they really dislike. Or Colin used to play but the girls used to keep beating him. Perhaps they laughed at him too.

Anyway back in the DS days I used to join in in the athletics thread so let me point out it was a good night for us there too as Keely Hodgkinson was the winner in the women's 800m final in the Diamond League.

After yesterdays news that UK exports to the EU have held up well but we are importing less from them by around 20% I am sure that James O'Brien will be pointing that out after tweeting this.

I didn't agree with Andrew this morning regarding Emma Raducanu. Talking about being an immigrant gives a different mentality and we in Britain are too soft. Everyone focusing so much on her and tennis, but what about all the Olympians and Paralympians we've seen who have achieved medals this year? Those who were not immigrants? Are they soft? Lol the myriad of talented sportspeople we have in this country and he's focusing on tennis.

Although 9/11 was tragic, the wall to wall coverage is a bit depressing.

It's the 20th Anniversary. It was always going to be big memorial.

I didn't hear him this morning but that's a stupid thing to say.

As @Maggie Moggy pointed out, her parents both came from the finance sector and were obviously working in Canada when she was born. They moved here when she was 2 and they live in the affluent area of Bromley. I'm not sure how that makes them tougher.

I'm not taking away her achievements. She has done phenomenally well and I hope she wins tonight.

I gather her father has had a similar role in her success as Judy Murray has had with her boys.

Indeed as Emma Raducanu has been here since she was 2 and is from a family who are well-off.

Good luck to her later and I hope that those trying to make an issue of where she was born will stop playing such silly games.
