Some LBC news

No surprise there. I thought he'd get promoted.

I see Matt Stadlen was at Iain's do. I think it shows what a load of pantomime all this talk radio and social media rows is. Julia Hartley Brewer having pics with Emily Maitlis. Emily Thornberry, Wes Streeting, Andrew Marr and Adam Boulton all rubbing shoulders together on the terrace.

Oh of course, two side of the same coin. It also shows what a closed-shop it all is. Pure networking, connections etc. etc.

Just about to go out. However, just received some early figures. The reason J O'B hasn't mentioned his figures is because Nick has trounced him once again. The most listened to presenter on LBC is Nick Ferrari !!!!!

LBC have b been very quiet about their figures. Just having a quick look and it Talk Radio/TV are the big winners this quarter.

Iain has just tweeted:

RAJAR: The figures are in and I am delighted that for the second quarter in a row Iain Dale in the Evening has achieved a record audience, this time of 645k - the highest evening audience in LBC's 49 year history. Thank you to everyone who has tuned in!

Jobbie hasn't mentioned his listening figures.
A sort of 60th birthday present for him. He seems a pleasant chap so good luck to him.

Pleased to see this too. These are the only days I miss DS

But they can't deny it. Unless they put their heads into paperbags, they will have to accept it .
No mention on DS of Keir Starmer now that he has been found to have breached the MPs code of conduct, likewise no mention of David Lammy also being investigated a few weeks ago.

Mind you, they are all drowning their sorrows today that their beloved Eddie is being replaced by Tom and they are raging 😁. They really think nobody will want to listen to Tom. They are deluded 😅

Wonder what will happen with that thread if Labour ever get in. They will have nothing to rant about and their lives will be just perfect . The thread will die 🤣🤣🤣

He was off for two weeks though right? Although tbf, my listening habits didn't change over that period much. I couldn't face Matt Hancock mind you.

The survey was over the period of 4th April 2022 – 26th June 2022. I doubt there was a great loss of listeners. People are 'creatures of habit' ! Actually when was his holiday?

The next release is due on 27 October. It will cover 27th June 2022 – 18th September 2022. Hope he doesn't go on holiday again !!

I seem to remember Iain Dale felt he was taking rather a risk when he switched from doing Drivetime a few years ago to the evening slot he has now. Audiences tend to watch tv or go out in the evenings, so congratulations to him for increasing his reach. Shows real talent.

Did James O'Brien mention the Kier Starmer news?

Of course not, even though he isn't a great fan of Sir Keir. Does anybody know why he got a knighthood? I doubt if it was for being Director of Public Prosecutions when it was decided not to prosecute Jimmy Saville.

Poor old Jobbie; he didn't like Corbyn or Blair either but still voted for them.

...Or Boris (London Mayoral election).

James doesn't really know much tbh. I've heard him at least twice recently saying ... "I'm not thick" in a way almost to convince himself that he isn't. What he fails to understand is, the vast majority of listeners couldn't really give a toss if he is or isn't, but the more he says it the more he comes across as just that.

He does get my heckles-up though when he calls himself a 'journalist'. Firstly he only got his start in newpapers because of his adopted father who worked for The Telegraph and then it was only as a gossip coloumnist, secondly he didn't even bother doing (or more likely couldn't pass) shorthand. That's pretty pathetic especially when you consider the poor sap who lost-out on a job at The Telegraph because James was able to pull some strings. If he had passed all the exams and was talented I wouldn't have as big a problem but he didn't and he isn't.

Ian Payne was seriously doing my head in this morning. Constantly interrupting callers. He just doesn't give them a chance to speak and finish the point they are trying to make :(

He tries to be intellectual and clearly isn't up to the task, then he tries light and isn't very good finally he goes for funny and it's just not. He should just stick to one format and get good at that. It's all too much of a mish-mash, a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none situation. I suppose given that he likes to go through the paper and do the obligatory 'wave the paper next the mic' shite, he is trapped by covering a mix of stories.
