Job looks so different compared to a few years ago, I can see all the bitterness in his face. It can't be good to be so angry all the time

Was Steve talking about Jamie today?

I wonder how Nick Abott's shows did?

LBC’s Nick Ferrari and James O’Brien meanwhile drew in the biggest listenership of the commercial players, with 1.4m weekly listeners each. Ferrari’s audience figures were back up after slumping slightly at the end of last year.

Thank you Yel

If we look at the situation logically we see that LBC gets quite a boost in listeners from Steve Allen and his "spikers"
Then Nick Ferrari provides the biggest surge of all to at or around the LBC peak.
James O'Brien by contrast adds virtually nothing.

Therein lies the rub ... surely it's just as much 'the slot' that has the audience figures as than the person. Give someone else O'Brien's slot for 6 months and see how they do. But of course, given the amount of narcissism in play, the broadcaster always thinks it's them. Again, it's why these people are so scared of taking holidays, or being sick, in case the person who replaces them gets higher listening figures. O'Brien has already failed on TV, Failed at the BBC, this is his last chance really. He wouldn't be missed if he went and he knows that I think.

On the whole I agree with that. However, I would say that this also proves the point that Steve Allen is very special in that he is on a 4am and garners a huge audience. If it wasn't him in that slot I doubt the figures would be so impressive.

LBC would be poorer without Allen, just think 24hrs of political doom and gloom would ensue.
Clive Bull and Steve make it worth listening at that time of day.

I agree. Steve can grate sometimes, but he does offer something different. Regarding Clive, does anyone also enjoy it when 'Gil' from Newport rings-up at the end and gives his pre-written monologue about the days events? He cracks me up everytime. Ah bless ... Clive does some quite light-hearted piss-taking out of him but Gil takes it well (unless he doesn't realize he's being gently mocked). haha.

It's a shame Paul Easton stopped doing his RAJAR blog. He had access to all the listening figures of London commercial stations and he used to do detailed graphs of who was listening to what and when. Nick Ferrari always had the highest spike, which hung around briefly at 10am and then dropped off throughout the morning.

Those graphs made more sense than anything else I've seen to explain the RAJAR results.

In between giving us Bodger soundbites Nick Abbot actually talked about music & movies last night.
"There has been no decent rock music since 1982, there have been no great movies since Terminator 2"

😁

He sounds such a miserable soul. How do people stand him?

That's a question for his partner I think haha. I do wonder how he lives his life day to day. Some people you can garner an idea of how they are off the radio, and they even give some of their personal life away, but Nick gives very little about himself away. I do know he seems to like Kew gardens and those public gardens. Apart from that, no idea.

Lots of people do. There are a lot of very bad diabetics out there. Every diabetic I know is always eating cake, biscuits, booze. One of my friend's solution to that is never taking his blood sugar readings so he never knows how bad it is
Yes that’s so true. I also think that many diabetics are prescribed medication for cholesterol and blood pressure and kid themselves that this is enough to keep themselves ‘safe’ .. it isn’t.

Yeah it's mad. I have a friend whose uncle had emphesemya and continued to smoke. Steve always goes on about how much he loves crumpets and previously mentioned how he ate four lol

Aged 50, James is still coming to terms with his privileged, private schooling.
This is like listening to student radio.
Thankfully I'm off out to work soon and have my big boy pants on in order to engage in some heavy lifting.

Bingo ! I have diabetes and have medication for that, as well as cholesterol and BP. Although sometimes I do indulge in sweet things (I do it in moderation!), but use sweeteners for tea (instead of sugar), and drink diet coke! I have regular blood checks with my GP, and they have been okay ....so far ! I think it may also be whether you are Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic. I am T2.
