Some news from a former LBC presenter.

Oh dear! Back to the job centre on Monday!

@MrHarryCole

NEW: BBC withdraw job offer to aspiring Labour MP Matthew Stadlen. He’s been deleting non-historic tweets but spokesperson said: “We have many conversations with a diverse range of potential presenters. We had offered him some temporary work but our plans have changed for now.”

Oh God that's embarrassing. He's spent so much time trying to be edgy, he's wrecked his career. 🤪

I guess he has one more tweet to delete now.

Never heard of the bloke, but clearly a man in desperate need of attention, be it as a broadcaster or as an MP. Was he any good?

Matt used to be worth a listen on LBC. I found myself agreeing with him a lot of the time. Shame he lost his overnight slot. I am surprised actually, considering he was a lefty, that LBC got rid of him.

He replaced Cristo in the weekend slot and immediately got into Twitter beef with Cristo over listening figures. Bit of a JOB lite.

He seemed to have a bit of rising star when he first came to LBC and did some cover for JOB but then seemed to go off the boil. His wife left him not long after they got married and he took that really badly. He was never the same after that and just seemed to get into fights with people on social media.

He posted videos of himself doing boxing training in an attempt to intimidate those he was disagreeing with on Twitter.

In fact he became a figure of fun as people laughed at his technique and noted that he was in a children's playground.

Aaah, say no more. I get who he is. Seemed he even p1ssed-off GB News, so no work for him in the media ... unless he goes totally bonkers and starts ranting and raving in Youtube.

To be fair, Matt Stadlen seems to come from a well off family. I doubt he'll struggle if he ever got into financial difficulties because he's not getting enough work. But this is a perfect example of why social media can come back to bite you.

But people from well-off families don't want more money, they want to be FAMOUS! Daaaahling ... *jazz hands* *jazz hands*. There's zero money in journalism, hasn't been for 20 years. The only reason most of 'em like O Brien get work in broadcasting is through parents or friends of parents. The poor state-educated soul born on a sink estate in Wigan has no fuckin' chance. So I do get a little bit of schadenfreudistic (not a word) pleasure from events like wot az appened to Mr. Stadlen. Let's hope it happens to O'Brien ...oh wait, it has. Sort of. haha.

Yeah, his home is also in Richmond I think. It must be worth a fair bit.

He moved to Dorset several years ago after he finished at LBC. Had 'big plans' apparently.

As I recall he did overnights at the weekends and was was hated even by that other mob who post about LBC. A bit of a 'wet liberal' I think was putting it mildly. He's the son of some millionaire high court justice and is an ex public school/oxbridge alma mater.

Showing his bias here. Obviously didn't delete this one in time:

I suppose it's to 'protect' people who don't keep a close eye on such things, but surely for those of us engaged in media and politics it's a GOOD thing that a presenter is known to hold certain views. Personally I'd rather know someone's political persuasion if it isn't obvious at the outset. Everyone who works at the BEEB has 'political' views one way or another, that's only natural, why should they keep them secret? To me that's more pernicious in a way. Take Naga Munchetty on Breakfast, it's pretty bleeding obvious she despises Donald Trump and quite probably Boris Johnson ... she gets to keep her job and rake in a 3 figure salary. All very strange.

The publicly funded BBC is supposed to be politically neutral. There's no harm in presenters letting their views be known, so long as they don't use their position to express or promote those views, in the hope of influencing listeners/viewers.
