What did you learn? Anything about 'birds and bees' ? :m

He obviously saw it on a newsreel.

Practically, it was obviously unexpected that the King was to die at that time. It is lucky she had a black outfit to return to Britain with - or did someone have to dash off to the local M&S ?! I presume she didn't take black clothes with her everytime she went away 'just in case'?
According to a newspaper account I read at the weekend, a black outfit was waiting for her when she landed and she changed on the plane.

I'm confused by the question tbh.

One correct !!

Most presenters lost some of their audience between last quarter and this quarter. There were three presenters who increased their audience figures. Which three are they, and a bonus point if you get them in order !

Wonder if she had to squeeze into one of those airline loos ?!!!

The Royal Family always pack to cover every contingency, rephrase their people always pack to cover every contigency,

Tuned into O'brien's first hour, he truly sees himself as some sort of on-air therapist, a svengali type.
Talking to a caller about the caller's friends' voting intentions.."go easy on 'em....give them space...a safe space if you will..don't go in hard..." 😁

I didn't realise Steve and his ex producer, Cory, are good friends. Steve seems to hang out with him a fair bit. Always hearing about him and his ex producer going somewhere together haha.

Listening to Tom taking calls about the energy price rises, it's outrageous that BP and Shell have just announced their record profits in the billion$, as millions of us will struggle trying to heat our homes.
Those pre-paid key meters should be made illegal, we had one in our flat over 20 years ago, it took us months of arguing with the supplier to have it removed.

Perhaps you are too young ;) but 'pirate' radio was broadcasting offshore between 1964-1967. The soul pirates were landbased and mainly consisted of guys broadcasting from their bedrooms their favourite music, until the Post Office found them, and closed them down!

Ah bless you, I knew what you meant, but yes I am too young. I only entered this world in 1965. It was tuning around the dial for the soul pirates who used to get busted every week for me.

I never liked LBC programming during the day back then after the Brian Hayes show would finish. You used to get a cycle of ten minute news headline reports, interspersed with reports on city trading, the FTSE index, a sports round up, and Colin Turner's selections for the horse racing for what seemed like hours on end. I used to desert LBC in the afternoons during this time for radio London or the soul pirates if they were on. In a way it was a bit of a godsend when they DID split the LBC frequencies for two different types of station.

By the way I never hear the Syd Burke Rice and Peas show mentioned or Geet Mala's Asian londoners !

😆 brilliant!

How is the lovely Jolyon these days? Does James have him on? I lost track after that hilarious but not hilarious for the fox incident.

Jolyon Maugham was on celebrity university challenge recently over the Christmas break. He captained the team and although didn't do brilliantly wasn't terrible either. Unlike our 50 year old, Chiswick dwelling journalist friend, who did extraordinarily badly when he was on a few years ago.

They didn't have headlines every 10 minutes during the day - did they? It was more frequent during breakfast and drive, but I only recall 10 minutes on LBC News. When LBC first started it was national news on the hour and London news on the half hour. I remember Colin Turner's racing tips, and someone had to read out all the results in the evening - I think from every meeting !

Did James O'Brien really open his show by accusing others of fighting the Brexit battle?

The lack of self-awareness was astounding even by his standards.

He could do with a good dose of monitoring.

Every time it rains up in the North all that water makes it's way down to the Thames causing it to flood, the swans end up at Walton - Steve x

Thanks for listening so I don’t have to 😃. James “don’t go in hard” does make me laugh. His relentless banging on about Brexit and total lack of empathy for anyone who disagrees with him turned me into from a hardcore Remainer into someone very sympathic to the Brexit cause into someone who had to take a good long break from LBC. He really is completely insufferable.

I agree that James is insufferable. I switch on for mystery hour only, and that's it. Ramming his opinions down everyone's throats and banging on about Brexit at any given (and often irrelevant) opportunity, and should anyone bare to disagree with him, they are wrong and stupid, bit heavy for morning radio.
