But he has the figures and you can't take that away from him. People certainly don't tune in to be cheered up!

James and Nick F are actually very close (or at least they were). James' popularity surged with Brexit and lockdown. I suppose more people WFH and not commuting means listeners tune in later. Ferrari is still steady numbers wise it's just James has increased a lot. Usually Global make a big deal about LBC's numbers but they were very quiet last time around.

Steve Allen was always way ahead for his time slot. There wasn't anything that came close to him. I'm not surprised Nick A is top for his time slot.

Funny how some presenters go on about their figures and some never mention them. Nick A only mentioned it last night because he hadn't got any calls and then they realised the phones weren't working.

You can kinda take it away from him insofar as no one else who is a recognized and respected broadcaster has been in that slot for 20 years.

But - and I'm not standing up for the man because I don't like the one-sided way he slants conversations and stories - he's been in the slot for twenty years BECAUSE he has the figures. If the numbers dropped off, LBC would soon say thank-you and goodnight.

The friends I know who tune-in and sing his praises tend to be negative, anti-establishment, anti-Brexit, anti-Tory, in fact anti-everything! James knows his audience and plays to it. I describe him as the Pied Piper, he plays the tune and the faithful follow, right over the cliff edge should the piper keep playing. My JOB loving friends get very grumpy at that analogy, but it's just an opinion. They see him quite differently, as a saviour who dares speak the truth. You pays your money, you takes your choice...

But getting the numbers with a tried and true audience in the same slot on LBC for twenty years doesn’t show any progression for him personally. It’s just rinse and repeat. I think the point being made is that he should have gone into bigger and better things by now. He must have agreed because he tried and failed to break into tv. When you see some of the absolute drongos in tv jobs you have to wonder what the problem is.

He had the opportunity to have a permanent (ish) job on Newsnight but he refused to adopt a neutral attitude. His decision to leave rather than adopt their strictures was down to his ego and inability to resist demonstrating his take on whatever was being debated.

It's like the difference between a journalist and columnist, it amazes me how people get the two professions confused, even the people who purport to be one or the other! :rolleyes:
 
Dear Lord ... I caught Susan Hall on with Nick today. I am so glad I don't have to vote for Mayor of London. What a choice!!

She sounded very out her depth. Just using Trump's technique of saying 'more police on the streets' , 'I'll fix everything and make it better' , 'I'll take away ULEZ' and then when she questioned in depth about any of it she has not a scooby.

I really don't like Natasha Clark. She sounds really smug and sneery.
 
Only caught the opening couple of minutes of O'Brien but he was blaming the Daily Mail for any measles outbreak. Did he get round to mentioning that the lowest vaccination rate for children is in Tower Hamlets. Not sure that's a hotbed of the Daily Mail demographic ? There's questions to be asked of why the take up in that area was so low, but he's too much of a shithouse to go there. Play to the echo chamber, keep the grift going

It's the same regarding increased cases of TB. It affects certain areas more than others but no one will discuss it. Massive elephant in the room. Same with grooming gangs and same with the demogrpaphic of all those young men that were arrested stealing expensive watches.

James just sticks his fingers in his ears because it doesn't suit his narrative.
