Jon was loathed at the BBC by all who worked with him. This is a man who used to rock-up into the carpark riding a Harley-Davidson on occassion. Look at MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Awful bloke and decidedly average as a politcal analsyt . Simon Marks on the otherhand is absolutely FIRST RATE. If you're interested in US politics or the US election I would strongly suggest listening to Marks and not Sopel.

I really like Simon Marks. I always get a lot from his contributions.

Nick Abbot is dusting off all his Trump soundbites as we speak ....

LOL. The meeja is getting more bleeping desperate by the day, all I've heard today on various outlets is 'conscription'. Do me a bloody favour, utterly ludicrous. Pretty irresponsible too, some people probably believe this guff. Russell Brand and his ilk are becoming more mainstream by the day.

The word “gammon” does its job perfectly. I find it mildly amusing that those who take offence at the word “gammon” are quite happy to label others as “woke” or “snowflakes”. 😉
Let’s face it, there is a group of people in this country to whom the totally unhinged section of the Tory Pary (the likes of Braverman, Patel, Rees-Mogg, Truss, Anderson etc. etc.) just have to blow their dog whistles and they all fall in line. The editorial teams at the Mail, Express, Telegraph, Sun, Spectator and Times know their demographic very well. Perhaps we should just get rid of all of these titles, accept our fate and have one national newspaper, The Daily Gammon? 😆

I might have agreed with you once upon a time. Trouble is, when you see what the people who voted for Brexit and the likes of Johnson and hear the reasons why, I don’t think it is unreasonable to have their (usually) very weak arguments picked apart.
I might have agreed with you if this country had not been run into the ground for the last 14 years.
I might have agreed with you if the majority of the media in this country wasn’t propping up those responsible and running down those (few) who speak out against it.
I don’t disagree with the fact that he has a privileged education, that he is well versed in debate and uses his position to his advantage when dealing with less experienced callers, but isn’t that his job? It’s exactly the same as those hosting current affairs programmes. They are supposed to challenge those who they are interviewing, not to give them an easy ride.
I have only been listening to LBC since last year and hear the likes of Ferrari and Dale doing the same as O’Brien and Fogharty but not getting the same amount of grief. What I like is to hear people standing up to the bullshit we are fed daily but understand that those who like to hear the bullshit will disagree strongly.
I heard his comments about the Israeli soldiers. I have also heard him call out the actions of Hamas. As he has said numerous times, it is entirely possible to be critical of both sides. It seems as those who are polarised just hear what they want to hear.
I have heard him challenge Khan. I have heard him challenge Starmer and Labour policies. I don’t doubt that, should Labour win the next election and start behaving in the same way this government is and has done, he will give them the same kicking. I guess we will find out.
I am not going to apologise for enjoying listening to people who call out the lies told to us by those who sold us Brexit and who highlight the incompetence of the various governments we have had to endure over the last 14 years.

This morning O’Brien points out that the front page of The Times talks about the bloodiest day of the war so far as 21 IDF soldiers died. This seems to ignore quite blatantly that 25,000 mostly completely innocent Palestinians have already been murdered. Is he wrong to do so?

The usual word soup of piffle, drivel and polemic that the virtuous left are so adept at posting.

Of course he's condemned Hamas, but he's ever sneered in a 'you got what you deserved' way at at any of them dying

Given the fact the headline was ' Israeli military's biggest loss of life in single day in Gaza war' it proves that either O'Brien was wrong or you just heard what you want to hear. Probably both actually.

Can you imagine the number of "exemptions" there would have to be with "conscription"?!!. The psych profession would be even busier..and richer

Yeah ... we're going to war with Russia so we need to conscript all the young people. Nothing like a good scare for the population. Keeps them on their toes.

Good luck with parting them from their smartphones for military manoeuvres/armed combat.

It's a shame really, because I think a lot of younger people who play Call of Duty will have amazing hand-eye coordination. Just get them all in a warehouse playing a 'game' with drones and robo-tanks ... and there you go! Actually, it's quite Orwellian because I think that's how wars in the near future will play out.

Joking aside, Ferrari was discussing why the armed forces cannot recruit or retain people and one of the reasons given was that young people today question the government more, especially after Iraq. The caller said you need absolute trust in the government to go to war and it's just not there.

It's a relief not to have any of those pointless discussions about the current war zones but the alternatives on the breakfast show are verging on bizarre. Conscription (won't happen) - zombie knives - and now execution.
Why can't the Yanks find civilised ways of dispatching their murderers? What's wrong with old-fashioned hanging? Or firing squad? It's too much to hope they'll abolish the death penalty. I wonder which one Jobby will opt for. Ah, it's knife crime. Plenty of scope for weepers.

It is rather bizarre. Maybe they should ask the people at Dignitas how they do it.

I actually despise all those stupid names and expressions. Gammon, snowflake, woke ... they're all meaningless and do nothing to enhance or improve a discussion. I find it very juvenile. James is particularly bad at giving people childish names. I remember he tried referring to Andrew Tate as 'potato' because he didn't want to say his name. It was idiotic and tone deaf because he was having a very serious conversation at the time.

It's the same with Farage. 'Beery flatulance' , 'skid mark on society' ... James gets the most flack because he is the worst offender. I've never heard Shelagh use language like that to refer to people. Ferrari is a bit of a dinosaur so it is of no surprise that he uses terms like woke and snowflake.
I don’t disagree about the names. However, sadly we live in a world of labels and being put into certain boxes. That is how we end up with a concentration of media which focuses on certain boxes. Yes it is lazy. Yes it is childish. But it is the way we communicate with each other. I would prefer that people didn’t stoop to that level but would image that James O’Brien would argue that he is fighting fire with fire. He is also having to communicate across a large spectrum of listeners so perhaps feels that his terminology is appropriate. Given the way that his listener figures have increased over the years he could argue that he is doing something right.
For me it just makes a pleasant change to hear someone on the mainstream media fighting back against the country we have become and those who have made us this way.

Seems as though Jon Sopel will be the 'expert' commentator on the US elections on the breakfast show. He did a half hour phone in that this morning. Reading up on him, he seems to have parted from the BBC with Jobby Syndrome - wanting to breech their neutrality.

Newspaper live or die by the revenue they get, not just from sales of copy but by whether the number of people who buy their rag impresses the advertisers who buy space.
Jon Sopel hates Donald Trump. He always has and it increased after the Donald humiliated him in a Presidential press conference So if the Donald continues to succeed there may be some entertainment from the fury and bluster from Sopel.

Not LBC related, but it made me chuckle

'the beer brewed here is used to make brew beer here, ooh earth rider thanks for the great lakes'

Clown World ™ 🤡 on X: "WTF is he saying? 🤦‍♂️ https://tattle.life/threads/19920/" / X (twitter.com)
If it makes you smile, let's see/hear it. God knows there's nothing very chuckleworthy on LBC. 😟 Although I suppose the Royal Prostate might engender a few tasteless jokes. 😊 Must have been hell for him getting through the coronation.
