I’ve watched that reel too many times now, it’s so funny. It’s so disingenuous, how did she think her followers (who’ve watched her eat buckets of cheese balls and look like tit over Christmas) we’re going to swallow that claptrap?

So many people have called her our for not declaring her Botox in this (plus fillers of course) and so many have asked how they can believe anything she says when she schills so much skincare.

It’s good that some people are seeing through the crap now. At least a third of the comments are negative!

I agree about the outfits. Although I’m a completely different shape I love style instragrammers that that share real clothes. Not just tit they’ve been gifted, like 40notfrumpy who I’ve had to unfollow.

Me also, just want to get ideas from style instagrammers that I could use with my own wardrobe, I don't want to buy new clothes - I have plenty!

Is there any one at all now who is worth following. I'm just turned 50 but age not really important, it's the style idea

I used to love Kats blog, she was a great writer I thought

Interesting how she said she’d Been using EL Advance Night Serum for 18 years, i’m not sure she mentioned this before And I’ve been following her for a long time.
I can’t remember any mention of EL either. She really is like a snakeskin oil salesman, like Kat I use EL night serum, have Botox and take skin supplements- but the three things that make the biggest difference is drinking no booze, drinking more water and eating well - we all know it’s not down to Mr Lauder 🤦🏼‍♀️

The EL terrible Ad and negative reaction I hope will be a wake up call. Regardless of some of the snobby opinions on her IG and being an 'influencer' is her income, her main job, her 'content' is lazy, lacking and I haven't understood why brands work with her for some time as her numbers don't grow and engagement isn't great, guessing her IG stories perform well though with good click through for brands.

She rode the gravy train without stepping up her game, and if she hasnt got TV now the brand deals might start to drop away.

she's been lazy relying on one platform also with no platform diversity.

also being too greedy & flogging everything and not staying genuine and authentic to her audience - or herself!

Also I'd love to know who the hell signed that EL Ad off!!! It's also not tagged with the IG paid partnership tool. Who the hell runs these campaigns - happy to be your consultant! 😅

Oh yes I think she’s lazy at it too. Shoots in her flat manically talking at the camera with awful makeup and massive sweatshirts is hardly inspired.
Like her or not, Erica Davies content is so far removed. She actually styles clothes you can afford, she’s got great beauty content as doesn’t advertise every thing going. Kats looks grimy in comparison

Same - she was really funny. She's not daft, so surely she must realise the wheels are coming off?

Trying to remember who I actually like following for age 45-55 stuff. Fran Bacon @thefashionlift is still good. Also @belsfashionedit (good for small boutique stuff) and @thaarani022 (good for high street). Everyone else I follow for a bit but then they annoy me.

I think when influencers abandoned their blogs for Instagram, it all began to fall apart. With their blogs, there was some effort to not only link clothes but to have try-ones and write about the items. They may have been sent some items by a brand and wrote a blog on items, ordered a few more, actually wore the clothes. Or an influencer might write about say a black polo neck and link and write about several from a variety of brands, So it would feel like you had a feel for the clothes from various brands without leaving your sofa. Like some of the leg-work was done for you. And they wrote a little about their own life so you’d feel a sort of connection to them. Then the blogging stopped.

Then since Covid, brands seemed to not have as many influencer PR lunches/dinners/nights away/launch event, etc. instead there seems to be gift cards or inviting influences to try on and select an item which has resulted in hurried changing room stories where everything tried on is ’amazing’. Also, since work seems to have dried up, influencers are linking to everything and anything to generate commission from brands.

So now influencers are relying more on skin-care, hair-care, etc as these brands still seem to have the budgets to work with a Influencers but it’s just resulting in some influencers losing all credibility. If you see, say an own brand advert, you know it’s an advert, you know they are going to tell us it’s the best product ever, etc.

When influencers are promoting the various skin-care or make-up brands, it just makes you roll your eyes because you can remember them only weeks before raving over a similar product from a different brand or several brands, know that they have countless facials and various tweakments and so on.

And annoyingly too, lots of influencers now seem to want to charge us to read their ramblings on Substack or wherever, when in reality they are full of promotions and links so they can get commission from affiliated links. Without their loyal followers they would have no engagement and so would be of no interest to brands.
