A couple of weeks ago Kyle said Jenny was being sent for a chest xray to rule out a pulmonary embolism. I privately queried that. Why? My husband was gasping for breath, couldn't exert without panting, had low oxygen sats (hypoxia) and chest pain. Xray showed nothing suspicious but his oncologist then sent him for a CT Angiography which showed a large PE in his left lung in the bronchus middle lobar and right lower lobar arteries and bilateral lower lobe segmental arteries. He was put on daily blood thinners Enoxaparin.
Why Jenny was being specifically sent for Xray to look for PE is strange. CT Angiography is the standard.
This means Jenny has likely had a pulmonary embolism for over 2 - 3 weeks untreated?
Jenny did complain about a new pain in her chest, and Kyle was passing it off as perhaps her pleural effusion drying up.
Jenny shouldn't be on cam struggling to breathe. Her doctor said its likely going to get worse? It doesn't need to get worse, there are drugs to help.
Someone asked earlier if Jenny could have taken blood thinners to prevent a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lung). Blood clots in the lungs are actually very common in end stage cancer. Patients become less mobile and end of with DVT's/ PE's. Cancer itself causes sticky blood.
Taking a blood thinner to prevent it can cause more harm than good. Low platelets, risk of internal bleeding. Blood thinners are prescribed to patients who have had DVT's in the past.
