I’m not sure she ever planned to go, I think she had a notepad in the Groucho and was noting all the election results but Jude was blocking the screen and she was unable to record Redcar’s results. Except I don’t think there was a notepad. Or that she spoke to JL (if he was even there). She sits on a throne of lies...
The only thing that flabbergasted me is that she allegedly told him to sit the duck down. Why when your on a night would you ever feel the need to say that to someone. (Unless they are being a dick or starting a fight) she sounds incredibly rude. Why didnt she ask him to please sit down so she could see the results. Or heaven for bid why didn't she stand the duck up and move to somewhere so she could see the results. He probably didn't give a tit about the results.

She's well 'ard, that's why. Surprised she didn't kick him in the shins for good measure

She wouldn’t last five minutes in Redcar. No way would anyone eat rinsed beans there. You can get a great ice cream called a lemon top though.

Anyway because of yous lot I dreamt about JM last night. It ended when other half came to bed. I was determined to remember what happened. Bloody can’t though!
Having been to Redcar (unlike Jack), I would totally agree. Lemon tops are so good!

Another one like that is Dan Mallory who writes as AJ Finn. His book is called The Woman in the Window, I think it’s being/been made into a film. He told college professors and colleagues that his mother and brother died (at different times). They’re both still alive. Also many more lies!

I hope his lies are better than that book. It had so much promise and was billed as ‘the new gone girl’ (which is a nuts but fun read) and I hated it! I was so bored and saw the twist coming a mile away!

I think we worked out that Jude was there on the same night, some clever Frau found an article that mentions him being there. The rest of the tale... 🤔

something that has always puzzled me about this story is: what are the grouchos opening hours? Was it open all night for the brexit result? Is it just proles like me who had to go home and watch it on the telly at home?

Edit: sorry, just read that ‘diary of a Londoner’ or whatever it’s called and it turns out the grouch really did have an all night screening of the brexit referendum. Well, rinse my beans, how tedious does that sound?

So quirky! So hilarious! Doing a chaos! etc. etc. ad nauseam. 😬😕

The story of Jack, Jude, Redcar and the Groucho Club on EU Referendum night, for those who haven’t already seen it.

And Jack’s later version. Where she talks about going to “a bar” (and not the private Groucho Club obvs as that doesn’t really fit with her constant POV cosplay narrative).

"When I saw the postal votes results, I thought ’ew, this is going to be tough’.”

It's almost like you shouldn't have spoiled your ballot. 🤔

Fantastic article. thanks for posting. I read the book and found the writing irritating. I thought it had been written by a British author who had set the story in NY and just couldn't get the US voices right. This article explains what actually happened so well. A great piece of journalism.

"Monroe a remainer escapee from Southend"
Not sure she really gets to describe herself as a remainer, what exactly did she do for the effort? 🤔
I don't know what she did for the remain effort, but she certainly self-promoted and made some dosh on the back of the leave result.

The same as she does for anything she is a campaigner for............writes a few angry tweets to her hangers on.

Oh, and gets her mates at the Guardian to give her money for contributing a few column inches. This is where she expands the angry tweets with overly flowery adjectives, i.e. she does duck all, unless it brings in the money.

I get the feeling she was one of the very many who thought the leave vote would lose spectacularly so thought her vote wouldnt matter that much and now as a bee in her bonnet. I was very much aware that both sides at equal footing as many of my friends were either side and due to the incessant arguments I left sm, as it started to get on my tits.

That is one jaw-dropping read, thank you @Whiskers. The psychology behind fantasists (purses lips and side eyes JM) is absolutely fascinating — he was able to get away with no much in the noughties as no one was keeping receipts (applauds @Silver Linings and @Marmalade Atkins) — and maybe people just were more trusting then? He was much more extreme than Jackie is, though, amazingly...

The Redcar story is my absolute fave JM story. Whenever I see Redcar mentioned anywhere I absolutely HOOT.

Just been having a re-read of thread #31. This particular post has also had me hooting:

She honestly sounds like a 13 year old in an argument with one of her school friends here (if you really MUST know!). Though maybe I'm being unfair to 13 year olds.

I see that the truly awful, Steph McGovern has a new live show 5 days a week on Ch4. It is going to have a regular cooking slot as they desperately try to fill 100 minutes of airtime each day. Andy Oliver is booked - will Louisa use her influence at Ch4 and friendship with Steph to land Jack a regular slot?

What is our criteria for deeming JM officially irrelevant in a social / career sense? There now appears little content beyond 'Scoby' and other such guff.

Is she capable of inventing a new persona, cause and direction that can generate fresh interest in her again? I personally think that her remaining in the crappy bungalow will itself act as an obstacle to her recovering and progressing. Imagine walking around and seeing the daily reminders of the trauma of the last few months. The manically refurbished shed, the dining room converted into a 'studio' with tongue and groove walls, the sideboards of shame.
