Like I've seen baked carrot cake oats, but they don't use tinned carrots (because let's be honest, tinned veg is always a bit naff) and they actually have some texture beyond baby food.

Tinned veg is naff? How very dare you, didn’t you listen to how many more billion vitamins are in tinned veg. I think you need to go back and watch the carrot oats again as punishment.

*Only joking about the punishment, your Honour, I know its Your job to punish us for laughing at this cooking.

You’d think she’d bleeping jump at the chance to grate something
I wonder if she isn't grating things because of her 'arthritic riddled hands' and because on live TV she'd probably grate off her finger or do herself an injury in some way, which let's face it would be more entertaining 🤷🏻‍♀️

Please your honour do not take that as me hoping she would injure herself, I promise this is not what I mean, she just seems very nervous and jittery, again just my opinion/observation... 😬

Yes, all those vitamins in tinned veg... that aren’t in fresh veg... right, Jack? 🤣

What is her whole “thing”? Is it cooking meals on a super low budget? I know it used to be but right now people are going down the whatever you have in the cupboards route (despite shops being basically back to normal)

The stuff she cooks is abysmal. Absolutely abysmal. It doesn’t even strike me as value family meals. The way she throws stuff together is like she’s living in Chernobyl trying to make something out of a bunch of old cans she’s found.

The thing is you don't have to mix it with some random thing to make a meal. She said on twitter the other day when presented with 3 ingredients together when you could have had them as 3 separate dishes. You can buy bread reduced for pence in the evenings so she could use that a carbohydrate stable if nothing else, a tin of value beans costs pence. Spilt that can with some bread you have a basic meal and it makes sense and costs practically nothing. A packet of value noodles and a few slices value baconfrom the pound shop can make a meal for two people and cost nothing. ( I used to make noodles and bacon alot when I was skint at uni) even plain pasta with a knob of butter can fill you up and costs nothing you don't have to throw random tit onto a pot to get some food. If youre hungry and skint all you want is filling, an old lady I know said she used to have bread and milk🤢 when she was skint. She loved it. I can't stand soggy bread so it's a no from me but I get that it's filling.

That is not the face of a man who is enjoying what he is eating!

Looks like when your kids present you with something from cooking in school and your not sure if you live to see another day after it. 🤣

Does anyone remember the old way of cooking on tv shows with the glass bowls. The ingredients use to be weighed or grated or chopped or what ever need to happen to them.
That way you don’t need to multitask and can actually say what weight of said ingredient is being used.
If it was me, I would also lay them out in order of ingredients, would make it easier to cook.

ie I am adding 250g of chopped mango to 500g of flour etc...

If you are reading this Jack, I reckon that would help you. Fairly certain if you google Blue Peter recipes in the 80’s you might find something to watch.

There’s a book called ‘Feed your family for £20 per week’ and it’s full of great recipes we love as a family.

One of them is overnight oats with frozen fruit in it. What’s wrong with that instead of bleeping carrots?!
They have a Facebook page/group too called Feed your family for about £20 a week,, I pop on every now and again and find really good tips etc

It’s like watching a novice in training for presenting. She keeps missing her cues and looking bewildered, Matt is having to basically elbow her every time! Regardless of my opinion on her as a person, it makes for uncomfortable viewing, she isn’t clear, she talks odd rubbish (sourdough puppy?), and giggles all the time. Surely she should’ve been rehearsing and practicing! It’s really uncomfortable / unprofessional viewing! All the progs that are spontaneous atm via Skype have a better natural flow.

Fair play to Jack, today was probably her best performance yet.

There are a few points though.

1) Why are you cooking and cutting dishes without washing your hands and then passing to your co-presenter to eat?
2) Social distancing was not being operated at all times.
3) The Hairy Bikers segment - this wasn’t just Jack as Matt too both rubbished what the segment was about.
4) The being immunocompromised. My family member is and won’t even walk to the bin never mind the beach for fear of catching coronavirus. You either are or you aren’t. And I think in Jack’s case she isn’t.

It’s also one of those sketch shows where you know when it’s autocue and you know when it isn’t. There doesn’t seem to be any natural flow between them in terms of conversation, and Jack reverts to me me me when she doesn’t know what to say next.

Again, all of show things can easily be ironed out. But it’s if Jack wants to take critique on board and try to improve rather than talk about herself constantly.
We’ll see tonight if she has a Twitter meltdown again.

I luffs you Joanne.

Completely agree, I work for a company that priorities practising. It seems to be a really hard concept for people to understand.
You have to practice, practice, practice something until it becomes effortless so that your mind can then concentrate on the other elements around you when you go live.

I don’t work in television but I imagine you have to think about camera angles, of presenter, actually cooking, movements etc etc etc. If you have stood with the script and practiced it until it’s is effortless then you are ready to deal with other stuff.

I would sympathise with her because it is a daily show but if she can mess about on twitter till the early hours then she does have time to practice.

Didn't attempt to watch, I can do without cringing so hard I turn inside out.
So thank you all for the running commentary, it was brilliant.

I've seen it mentioned a couple of times, and nodding along with you but what actually is this show? Is it supposed to be cooking on a budget? Or related to lockdown and which foods are hard to find right now? I think they need to have a clearer idea of what they're trying to achieve here.

Also, fancy food 🙄 Herbs and spices, seasoning and fresh ingredients aren't bleeping fancy. She needs to stop saying this. Poor people don't have to live off tins. If this was a food bank inspired show, I would think differently but it's not (is it?).

OK I'm finally caught up, I keep not wanting to tune into the show but I just can't help myself, the comments here as awesome as they are make me want to watch it even more 😂😂

I feel so bad for Matt, he constantly has to guide her, metaphorically hold her hand and then reassure her when she makes her disingenuous self deprecating comments, the poor guy is going to need a never ending supply of alcohol and a very long holiday after this, I wonder how his wife is dealing with all this, seeing crappy comments about her husband on twitter because of Jack and then probably getting Matts true feelings once he is home, Matt take her on a nice holiday when this circus is over please. Lol

I think Jack replied to someone asking the same question on Twitter by saying it was both, but the two are contradictory in this situation. People are struggling to find tinned food plus flour and cupboard staples. With some products being out of stock it’s a matter of buy the premium option or go without. The show needs to focus on fresh food as (in my experience at least) that’s currently plentiful and can be cheap. Whoever researched for this show needs to do better

More good cheap recipes are Miguel Barclay's One Pound Meals. I do have my criticisms of him (and actually praised Jack on his thread before I fully knew what she was like!) but me and my fussy teenager really rate his meals. The books flow so you can use things on more than one recipe to keep the costs down, and they are tasty without using loads of ingredients. My son made his katsu chicken last week and was so proud of himself! He is also a natural on camera, his youtube vids are really good

Oh and to those of you starting to fancy Matt, I am here as an honorary doctor to diagnose you.

Knight in Shining Armour Syndrome

It's real! Matt is saving you from your cringe, and you therefore feel attracted to him. I started to get it when I was watching Jamie Oliver! 😂

Side note, I also get it with socialists 🌹 Can't resist a Labour leader when they release a manifesto 😂😂😂
