I reckon you're bang on here. She was supposed to contribute the money to a joint spend but wazzed it on something else. When questions were asked, she came up with this story to cover her Mediterranean arse. She googled how a scammer could get their hands on someone else's bank accounts to give her story some plausibility to whichever poor sap she was with at the time. She was probably hoping the beg would cover the money she'd spent and she could tell whoever her partner was that the bank had refunded her.
There's no way she wouldn't have been tagging whichever mystery bank allowed scammers to take her cash in her Tweets.

I honestly felt like I was going mad when I could see these two lives running parallel to each other on different platforms and I could not comprehend why everyone was smiling and nodding along with the scamming little bastard. She either thought that Gloss people couldn't see Twitter or she knew they could and had become so brazen that she just didn't give a heck.

I hope that the sycophantic admin in Gloss feel like prize twats now too. What a bleeping shower.
