Thank you for saying this. It's one of those things that we're not allowed to talk about as lefties, and I can't speak up about it in other spaces. Socialist values profess fairness and honesty, and the fact is, there are lots of people out there living off the state when they could be working at least part time. I 1000% agree that PIP needs a serious overhaul - I have one friend down South with severe physical disabilities (I've known her since primary school, when her arthritis started) who has to go through annual assessments and appeals - her condition is progressive and she's never going to get better. I have another acquaintance who lives in the same town as me and is claiming PIP mainly for ADHD (has been diagnosed, but has admitted to me that she told the psychologist what she thought they wanted to hear) admits to being a hypochondriac and has somehow managed to claim the top tier of PIP due to physical issues that most of us just get on with (mild asthma, back pain, bladder issues) including higher mobility rate, despite the fact that she can drive, goes on shopping trips to buy clothes and art supplies several times a week, and socialises more than me.
