I have a question. Energy bills terrify me so I absorb the info I need to and carry on.

The £400 discount is being given (for those normally on dd) by having deductions off dd. If the squigs have cancelled their dd and set up so (which is unusual surely?) then this discount will be much harder to sort out?

Obviously this will not be relevant to those on different types of payment/meter.

I think it's because the energy company can change the amount of a DD (e.g. if your costs are higher than your monthly charge) without asking you so some people have been finding themselves with massive bills. A SO is a fixed amount.

Jack needs to be really careful here as energy companies can go quite hard on people, but they generally choose not to, but if they decided to make a point and lots of people end up on pre-payment that's no good for anyone

I check my DDs and all bills regularly! I have a spreadsheet that I update and once anything is out of contract I shop around. This seems like basic money saving advice to me but am surprised how many people don't.

Simple things like applying to spread Council Tax over 12 months rather than 10, changing to sim only phone contracts, getting a smart electric meter-if possible, cancelling sky so they give you a better offer-I actually went through with cancellation when I analysed how to watch telly, shopping in Lidl/Aldi with a meal planned list, thinking about car journeys ie make less off them by being organised, batch cooking using slow cooker which is cheaper etc
All of these are money saving but she suggests stupidly cancelling bills and burying your head in the sand. Just appalling.

Like your example too, the debt doesn't just go away!!!!!!

Just listening to this posted from previous threads:

https://www.greenbelt.org.uk/talks/i-was-hungry-and-thirsty-were-you-there/

The bit where she started singing had real David Brent vibes. Remember the episode when Dawn was crying and David said, "Pass me my guitar!"

Of course, I remember when Jack described herself as middle-class and well-educated (here) yet now describes herself as working class and having 'failed' grammar school having left without the 5 A*-C. At around 11:45 she describes herself as 'not very well educated' because she used to smoke with the boys!

Which is it?
I hope someone quotes this back at her (Moooolllllyyyy?!)
Seriously, that tone? Normal people?? watching Jeremy Kyle in tracksuits?? wtf?

This was mentioned on Radio 5 phone in with Martin Lewis, a caller said that he had been told this. He said not to cancel DD because he thought it meant the £400 would t come to you. Martin wasn't sure and I don't think they came back with an answer

But this comes under the DD guarantee. They have to notify you within 10 days of taking the money and you can contest it if you think it’s too much and speak to the energy company. If it’s correct, you need to work out a payment plan. Paying by standing order the amount you *think* you owe, is going to leave you in debt in a couple of months time! You still owe the money.

@Cucumberthunder not arguing with you, more Jack’s illogical thinking x

ETA; I hate the energy companies as much as anyone (currently stuck in a battle with BritishGas as we speak) but telling people to just pay what they want is bleeping stupid advice. It’s not as easy as just reading your bill or smart meter to work out what you should be paying either.

Dear hearts, what a joy, privilege and honour. I’ve a number of moments in life to be proud of in this rough & pumble life. Ordination in the Church. An actual doctorate for a thing I wrote. Marriage and children. But a thread title here is one to add to the list, and I’ve asked my wife for a small drinks reception later today. I don’t drink alcohol but have put some cold berry tea & lemonade in the fridge ready for what I’m promised will be a delightfully refreshing treat this evening.

I’m obviously not paid for my contributions to Tattle (and that’s FINE, why would I be?), but if you’re feeling generous do send any and all casho’s either to paypal.thegriftingvicar or alternatively donate to any local, organic, grifters who may need your help.

Seriously though; be kind to people, look out for each other, keep pointing out how Jack’s a scammer and not actually helping people, and always, no matter what kind of rush you’re in, rinse your hoops. Toot toot.
Message from an hour ago to say 'this rough and pumble life' has FINISHED me. Thank you, tender Reverend.

Back to the previous thread, somebody (sorry can't remember who) asked about Linda McCartney, the thread was closed. It is worth a read, veganery dumped her due to her promoting low welfare meat, the viggles kicked off for similar reasons plus her treatment of animals. It got pretty hairy, I am not sure if anything still exists on LM site (I don’t have IG) or if they wiped her from history .

Definitely agree it's poor advice. It seems like a viral post from a couple of days ago. I'm pretty sure someone put a s/shot of it into a reply to her, but I can't seem to find it and there are a lot of threads to look through if she has deleted it. Nice of her to give credit though

🧐 I think dear frau you have hit the nail on the figurative head. 🍻

Are the frauen familiar with the literary fraud, manic liar A.J Finn? Pen name for Dan Mallory... Really quite fantastical tale and much more glamorous and high brow than our Rinsed Hoop Princess but, at his core still a dirty rotten scoundrel much like someone else we know...

Someone shared this in one of the early threads on Jack. Fascinating read. Why are people like this?

I checked into this because we pay quarterly by bank transfer and my understanding is that when the rebates come in it'll just be subtracted from whatever the bill is.

EDIT (From YouGov).

I don't think messing about with DD mandates etc will see people lose out on the rebate but they would need to be very careful with knowing exactly what is paid and owed as there's potential for more errors.

Surely if you cancel the dd the £400 would be void and if you wait till you get it and then do it you could be eligible to pay it back. These companies have their heads screwed on.
I don’t understand. Sorry for being a moron.

I think I am just concerned that if people are worried enough to cancel their dd, they will be in desperate need of that £400 come October. If the dd isn’t there the first discount can’t be applied and the stress levels will increase even more.

Is Jack saying every work collaboration she has had that she insists the collaborator also pay the equivalent of her wages to poverty causes?
Mm don't believe it. I guess she is getting her ducks in order in case the Del Monte collab is brought up - 'I only agreed to it because such a lot of money would go to good causes'.

It's the question we all want answered.
@MancBee, what do you think?

@Into_the_tunnel i dont know for certain but from my limited experience of things if schemes are setup the small print usually includes a clause such as cancelling a direct debit would void a payment or cancelling a DD within a time period will result in full repayment of money. Its a goverment scheme so there will definitely be small print and from my experience ite normally to stop them from paying out.

I never trust schemes.

Looking at the way this is all unraveling, is she actually OK? I’m not even saying that with snark, but genuinely - if I were a friend or relative of hers I’d be concerned.

She’s been caught in so many of these lies, some of them being painfully obvious and easy to debunk, and it’s as if she truly believes them?

Obviously none of us can diagnose her with anything (she does enough of that herself!) but it’s more than a bit worrying. 😕
I was thinking along these lines too. I’d be a quivering wreck with it all. But then I’d never have had the brass neck to get myself in the position in the first place.
