And considering the time she was in - very early Twitter & Instagram - she could have easily gotten a creative/media agency job doing something like content strategy or branding just off the back of her initial viral success. A few years in she’d actually have a skill set in it & portfolio of gr8 work and be able to make the next step up? She could have easily became a senior exec at any one of those sorts of companies *plus* all this other money coming in and actually be wanted at CSR talks. She fumbled so many bags
Not sure I agree with this - Jack is still relatively unknown despite multiple books, tv and radio appearances and per her own words when she went viral the other week she said it had taken her ten years of campaigning to get to that point. There is some luck involved in hitting the right note at the right time, but if she had the skills she'd be going viral and in the headlines regularly but she isn't.
Her brand is a little muddled also, for example one minute it's 90% vegan the next it's low welfare sausages. It's quick easy meals for people with limited money for food, fuel and kitchen supplies, then it's leaving things in the slow cooker for 12 hours. Admittedly though, branding is hard to get right, which is why skilled people earn a lot of money for doing it successfully.
She also has form for speaking before she thinks and landing herself in hot water - see David Cameron and THAT MAN. You can't represent brands while making distasteful comments about dead children and complaining that opportunities went to other people.
And lastly, her website - her shop window - has been broken for a while now and looks like it hasn't been updated for close to four years. She doesn't regularly post food content on social media, if anything it's a poll or picture of her food with 'recipe to follow!' and then it rarely does. If you were relatively new to Jack and saw that her site was 4 years out of date, you'd assume she'd moved on with life and was no longer writing recipes, or at least not writing them for free, which is confusing because she claims she DOES write and post them for free.
I don't mean to sound harsh(er than usual) but it doesn't seem to me that Jack could've easily became a senior exec at a creative agency. Those roles are hard to get, and a lot of smart, talented, hard working people are after them. Jack could probably do a lot of things if she put her mind to it and put the work in, but a few viral moments on their own don't mean she necessarily has great marketing/media talents.
