Jamie’s jollof rice was BAD because he took something that thoroughly belongs to the Afro Caribbean community, bastardised it, then presented it to the great british public expecting accolades. It’s yet another example of white (men, particularly) erasing BAME’s contributions, stealing their social/cultural assets & presenting it to a white audience whilst expecting praise/money for it. It’s really, really bad.

Is that not the same as a white woman taking Indian food, Mexican food, African food and then bastardising it and expecting accolades?
I apologise if I've misunderstood this, I wasn't aware of the jollof debacle.

Hi, I've tried to summarise all the stuff about Jamie Oliver, if anyone has a second could you read and let me know what I've missed? No doubt filled with mistakes but wanted to get it out there so it wasn't lost :)

Is it also worth mentioning in that article the time she blamed David Cameron if using his son for sympathy and KT lost her the Sainsburys job? There’s screenshots further up the thread

Don’t apologise! Yeah it is as bad tbh & it’s why I try to avoid places like Wahaca, and wouldn’t go to any of these gentrifier’s chicken shops that are popping up. There are millions of articles but this was quite an illustrative example that happened a few years ago:

This isn’t saying you can’t be white and love curry or Chinese or whatever, it’s saying if you’re a white chef you should be opening up your platform to people from the communities that created & popularised these foods and giving them a chance to show & tell. Rather than snatching what you want from their culture and profiting off it.

From what I remember, it was using the name jerk rice, even though the final product didn't contain a lot of the traditional ingredients found in a jerk chicken dish. His rationale was that he used the name to show where he drew his inspiration from. That's all well and good, but I still wouldn't call it jerk.

It's like the people years ago who named that stupid dance the Harlem shake, even though there was already an actual Harlem shake that originated in... ;) with a complex and rich history

Piece from The Bookseller from Oct 2018: 'Monroe has sold 90,515 copies in total with her debut A Girl called Jack, the bestselling title shifting 67,842 from February 2014, according to Nielsen BookScan.'

Please let there be no doubt - she is very wealthy.

Just to add too - in the previous thread a food blogger with a lower profile than JM posted to say she was making 4-5k every month and argued Jack would be making a lot more. So these book sales, which must have topped 100k by now, and now her advance money from the latest book deals, are on top of whatever she's making from blogging etc and selling her merch. Oh, and now there's BBC money.

She's swimming in it. Money, power, privilege.

Does this explains the huge chip on her shoulder about renting? Could have bought a cheap flat 10+ years ago, chose not to.

But her fiancée owns property so it’s ok 😑

At the risk of sounding like a broken bleeping record...

Her name was in the ring, and she was passed over for Jamie Oliver. He didn't bleeping steal her gig, she never got it. He did. 🙄

It's not even her niche genre, it's no one's. We've literally never had to shut the country down like this and adapt to cooking like we are now. It's not a budget, or even a tin can show ffs.
Jamie is presenting a show to help us adapt recipes, using things we might have around the house. She's taking the piss out of him, but I've looked on his website and actually found a lot of his ideas really helpful. I feel like I will make much better use of the ingredients I have using his recipe switches and tips, rather than chucking everything into a saucepan and making a mush to last days which is what Jack always seems to suggest.
also " noone gave ashit about" how many cook books has she published?

As if her credit rating is shot from the short amount of time she spent on benefits. I'm sure her several years on 6 figures would be more than enough to buy if she wanted to, but then she'd lose that stick to beat herself with.

Why would not buying the highly subsidised housing be a big regret anyway? If she actually was poor and desolate for two years as she always says it would have been repossessed anyway.

It's not a bad thing. Hopefully she will be forced to learn some decency, or at least adopt a kinder approach.
*Forced to fake some decency...

And don't forget the money she gets from blatantly begging off her followers

You can tell she’s being careful now she has the BBC gig - her posts about Boris tonight are nothing like what she would usually write

Why bother tweeting at all? Influencers and public figures need to realise that not everyone needs to hear their every single thought and take on every situation. Sometimes it's better to just say nothing at all. One can wish Boris well without having to tweet about it. It's that kind of thing that really makes me hate social media.
