Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson would not have a career if it wasn't for the Harry Potter films. They were cute when they were kids, but like a lot of the Game of Thrones kids, they didn't have the talent or range to make it as actors when they grew up. Radcliffe in particular is such a hyper little tryhard brat. The success of the films made them think they had important things to say about gender, but without JK Rowling's script, they can't articulate a fully formed thought. I look forward to the reckoning, and I hope they are coming up with their "we didn't know" "we thought we were on the right side of history" excuses now.

I don't think they're obliged to agree with her just because they played her characters, but I do think they're obliged not to encourage men entering women's spaces because everyone should be doing that.

But even that aside, I could never believe that, even if they truly believed JKR was misguided, they never condemned all the death and rape threats and misogynistic abuse she received. Couldn't believe Emma, that no-talent fraud, positioned herself as a feminist because she didn't wear a corset as Belle but didn't have a word to say about men trying to silence a female writer by threatening to slash her throat and decapitate her. Radcliffe's an hole for the same reason. And I truly don't know why he's got a career. There are plenty of awful people who are at least talented actors so I can't argue about them being successful at what they do. How the hell did he slip under the radar? He's just a genuinely terrible actor. The only time he's ever moved me is when I couldn't reach the remote and had to walk across the room to switch him off.

I can believe this. 2020 was really febrile, we were all going quietly mad, and the internet was one of the only outlets for socialisation. I mean, I don’t think the response to George Floyd globally would have been quite so massive and so violent if it hadn’t been 2020.

But even aside from the BLM movement, we had the trans social contagion really taking hold, whether that was teens being brainwashed into transitioning themselves, or at the very least being brainwashed into being TRAs.

Kids were being brainwashed long before 2020. I worked in a college where at one point there was a particular student (trans males) who was coercing other students into becoming trans. They were picking out kids who were from broken homes or unsure of their sexuality and preying on them. One minute they were taking one friend to see my husband who was there tutor to say that they also felt trans too, then there was another friend and by the end of the year that friendship group swelled to 5 kids all wanting to be trans. This kid was super persuasive and very mouthy if you had a view which seemed “TERF” to them. I hated them with a passion.
After college all those friends disbanded and strangely enough none of those who wanted to be trans in college are trans anymore apart from the gobshite who pushed them to it.
I believe there are people who are trans but they want a quiet life the majority of the time (i have trans friends and they tell me this) and they hate the younger generation constantly kicking up a stink for the sake of it.

IME genuinely bodyily dysphoric individuals just want to get on with their lives as quietly they can without causing fuss and attention drawn to themselves, in the same way that gay people achieved.

At one time, gay men were muttered about as being "light on his feet", :good to his mother" - and worse - and homosexuality* was considered an aberration. Now we are aware that homosexuality is as natural, though less common, as heterosexuality, and especially now that gay people can enter into civil contracts as binding as marriage, people don't even think about them - which is what they wanted; just to be part of the ordinary population. This is what genuinely dysphoric people want, too. They are aware that they aren't the sex they would like to be, are aware that it is a mental illness that they have to live with, and just want to live as natural a life as they can, hopefully in a relationship with someone who loves them - but certainly not drawing attention to themselves.

*It was almost invariably gay men who were judged, for some reason.
