Agreed, have just seen it is about a transvestite. Half tempted to give her Strike series a try actually, I haven't read her non HP stuff.

I do think I'm going to have to come off twitter soon, it's an absolute cess pit of woke wannabe professors of perfection who like to tear people down. Disgusting to see.

I’ve just finished the first Strike book by listening on audible and found it fun. The TV adaptation was short but the cast was how I imagined the characters. I’m on the second book now.

Have to agree the anime avatars / furry avatars / “shut up and die terf” nonsense on Twitter is absolutely batshit. They live in a bizarre little bubble of stan twitter and kpop.

I'm gonna order the book now 😁

Where was the outcry about villains in previous books? Oh yes straight white males (particularly poshos) have no right to be offended because its fine too blame them for everything.
over this victimhood culture, there's been real life villains of all shapes and sizes like some of them need to grow up.

Why they mad for? Men cross dressing to commit murder is more common than people think and has been written about in fiction for forever. It’s not a new concept at all. These people would probably know this if they actually picked up a book occasionally and tried expanding their world view instead of living on Twitter.

It’s problematic imo that a cross dressing bloke is automatically seen as trans. This never used to be the case.

What if you are adopted and don't know anything about your heritage, do you just make one up? How old has being "trans race" been a thing? This is a new word for me, obviously I'm aware of people altering their natural skin colour with products. What can possibly be the next thing that comes out trans!
Transracial actually has a history to it (though maybe ‘transethnic’ might be a better phrase?). Originally it referred to children adopted by a family of a different race. While I don’t think they would actually claim to literally be the race of their adoptive family, the child’s experiences would be different to a typical child from their race, so I understand the importance of acknowledging it

However, I noticed a few years ago on tumblr that other people were claiming the term, particularly non-Japanese people claiming to be Japanese because they liked anime and knew a handful of Japanese words. There was even one person on there who legally changed their name and wore yellow foundation. Which is obviously quite different to being adopted by a Japanese family, growing up with that culture and those values, speaking the language, etc

On the subject of JKR - this new book definitely wasn’t a good PR idea as it was bound to be misinterpreted but the RIP hashtag is weird. She’s not dead, her career isn’t over. She’s still a very rich and successful woman. It’s ridiculous

My respect for JK Rowling has risen- of course the perma offended and woke would be offended by the idea of a cross dresser and maybe it wasn't a good "PR idea" but she hasn't bowed to them. What a woman.

This really gets me too. It really does cheapen the word "trans", they are literally claiming a man in a dress is trans

Thank you!

I don't get that point of the transracial debate.. I mean a white british kid can be japonese and vice versa, one is ethnicity and one is culture

Twitter is lovely if you mix with the right people.

Yes, a toxic cesspit if you don’t.

They need to get their tit together honestly. In one breath wearing a dress doesn’t make someone trans because there’s ‘more to it’ than that, then in the next breathe they’re losing their tit over a cross dressing Male character from a book because it’s hateful to trans people.

Make up your bloody minds. Can’t have it both ways.

I don’t understand the point you are trying to make but culture is part of ethnicity
well if an asian child from china gets adopted by white brits in britain he's going to be british but asian/chinese ethnically. In france we're all french even those who aren't white, most people in that situation I've met say I'm french/brit etc.. with a different ethnicity.

Just like Americans are americans but with various ethnic backgrounds..

And yet Ben Elton took a massive satirical sideswipe at gender identity politics in Identity Crisis and, funnily enough, didn't get a quarter of the backlash. Just when these uppity women dare to comment, I guess.
i love ben elton! when was that one released?

just ordered the latest Strike
