Some reviews of JKR’s new book on Goodreads 🙄🙄🙄
I don’t get this. Is it because of the author or the content of the book? I’ve read books that cover a range of human suffering, that doesn’t mean I am pro human suffering. I have also read books by authors who have revealed themselves to be racists and sexist. That doesn’t mean I am racist or sexist. Are you going to hold the same emotion for J.D Salinger? Nabokov? Hemingway? How about William S. Burroughs? No? Oh so your activist only works when it’s against one group of marginalised people. Got it.

In the article it says Amazon are removing reviews due to unusual reviewing activity.
Glad to see book reviews are being removed when people clearly haven't read it yet.
Also spoiler alert
the article says the character isn't the only suspect so it's been blown out of proportion

That journalist is an idiot:

"Perhaps some will still consider this depiction transphobic, given Rowling’s rightly widely criticised views on trans people. It is, at best, an utterly tone-deaf decision to include an evil man who cross-dresses after months of pain among trans people and their allies"

Rightly widely criticised? Tone deaf? Months of pain among trans people and their allies?

What about JK Rowling and her months of pain and abuse? If trans people have experienced months of pain it's down to their own delusions.

Benjamin Butterworth made a snide comment at JK writing under a male name for this series.

Yes, she did this because female writers in that genre are STILL not as popular. This is why we need people sticking up for women.
She also of course wanted to publish a book without comparisons to Potter given that those were childrens novels.
Glad to see the hosts properly questioning what he says!

Ahhhh! I'm so glad I found this thread.

I have a small bookblog which is basically only read by my mum, but I've been on book twitter recently and it's insane. Every other tweet is from people saying 'How can people I follow also follow JKR? I'm unfollowing you until you stop'. I've saved them the bother by unfollowing them first.

This endless policing of things is awful. It's a trend that's been going on in the book twitter world for a while so I think I'm going to have to leave.
I started my blog to have somewhere to post pictures of books I was excited to read and write about things I've enjoyed. It was meant as a nice place where I could write about things I loved, to escape from some of the boring things about being an adult. I was very excited when my copy of Strike arrived yesterday, but I feel like I can't talk about it because I'll just get all this hate from people who haven't bothered to read the book but have decided it's transphobic. (I probably will post about it, but I anticipate the backlash will have me deleting my twitter because life is too short for that drama).

The way that authors have been got at recently (by people who are meant to be their fans), it'll be a miracle if anyone keeps writing. Every day when I log in to Twitter there seems to be someone else being cancelled. Meanwhile misogyny seems to life and breathe without recompense.

*Claps* I've seen people doing this on Twitter too. I wish people would stop policing who you are "allowed" to follow.

I find it particularly ridiculous because when I used to use Twitter, I followed people I didn’t necessarily like or agree with. You should absolutely read the content of the people you disagree with, to understand what you’re actually disagreeing with. It helps strengthen your argument.

This seems to have entirely gone over the heads of the woke crowd. They don’t realise how small minded they are.

someone told me considering other pov is a threat

Cult tactics. The similarities between the rules of the uber woke and cults are quite mind blowing to me.
The lack of critical thinking in evidence is very concerning.

JK Rowling is full of hate for her POV which she explained articulately and moderately - yet the people sending her death threats, trying to sabotage her book's release and generally sending vile messages to her? No they're okay because she's questioned their opinions. Ugh.

yeah so basically this is from someone who used to be uber woke and is now .. more neutral. Uni and women+gender studies brainwashed her, wouldn't allow other point of views, and yeah they're not open minded - gradually she realized this on her own and it helped to leave uni. Why was she blindly following this? conformity, wanting to fit in.

her words not mine btw
