Because the images were on his phone. He couldn't very well claim they weren't. On WhatsApp you don't get to choose whether to accept an image if you have the person in your contacts so the file names wouldn't make any difference.

However, all he needed to do was report the ones he received. He didn't. That's a crime in itself.

I hope this at least means more men realise this and speak up if they receive images of this nature.

Like it or not someone's mental state does make a difference. You can think it's all a lie if you like, and of course defence lawyers will put a spin on it that suits their client, but the court will have a report compiled by doctors who will have more idea than me or you about his mental state.

True but I’d rather focus on the mental state of the children in the photos and videos. HE and all the others like him are sick in the head. That’s his biggest MH problem, not his only but his worst and I’m not sure a stint on any hospital facility changes that ‘preference’.

Mental illness is no excuse, every single poncy duck who looks at images of child abuse is mentally ill or they'd never do it. The fact is he knew it was wrong, did it anyway, went to great lengths to hide it and has no regard for his victims, that's all that matters.

They communicated via various platforms, met up once and Huw received Dropbox links of images which the police weren't able to access. So there's every possibility he could have viewed more than the 41 indecent images during the 4 years they were in touch.

There's no way to prove when someone makes up mental health.

Maybe it's just a coincidence all the awful people that go on about their mental health to excuse vile behaviour
