bit more than a hunch - £35,000 is not a hunch .....a screaming mother giving details is not a hunch .

those images will never be found if police are not even looking for them .

The 'screaming mother' is irrelevant. It's the details she has which are relevant. The police have looked at that and made a clear decision (TWO separate forces and two separate occasions) that there has been no crime.

For all we know, the young man has made £35,000 in total from various people and the parents have singled out HE as he's high profile. But we don't know. We know far less than those who have actually seen the 'evidence'. It's the sort of evidence which would normally have appeared in the paper alongside the story. Media experts have said for days how weird it is that The Sun didn't offer that up. Perhaps it was nowhere near good enough.

Sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum but I can't quite get over the fact that the BBC 'tried to' contact the family once by email and then once by phone. That seems bizarre and very much in the vein of 'lets hope if we don't actually make contact with them then they will forget about it and this can all be pushed under the rug'. You don't send one email or make one phonecall and then not get through to the person's family and give up. Not when a serious and possible criminal offence has occurred! The BBC did not even talk to HE until the night before The Sun were about to print the article. Weeks later. Whaaaat?

That flabbergasts me the most. The lackadaisical approach by the BBC.
also the police investigating these underage images - yet they didnt have a search warrant - so HOW can they say they investigated - Huw could have dozens of PAYG phones in his house full of images - and his computer hard drives and nobody will ever know ......beggars belief !!!

Me personally I’ve gone from liking Huw Edwards to thinking he‘s utterly despicable.

Yes it makes me wonder why these powerful/privileged men are defending Huw, knowing he’s now also abused his power/position with young members of staff. I doubt they’d be happy if it were a loved one of theirs being treated like that, the lot of them are hypocrites.
---

I’m glad you have so much faith in the Police. I wouldn’t say it’s safe to say anything yet, especially after it’s now come out he was messaging very inappropriately with young members of staff.
If Huw Edwards had been into women instead of men, and I were one of the colleagues he'd messaged and made feel uncomfortable, BBC HR would be the least of his troubles once I told my partner about it. In a former job the main boss used to come in, in bad moods and take it out on whatever women were around at the time, not least his poor niece. Reducing them to tears. I was lucky that I just so happened to be on lunch or otherwise not in the room. But I saw them in tears. When I told my partner, the softest hearted guy, but a tough Northern Irish guy who takes no prisoners and is protective of those he loves, said "If he ever does that to you I'll rip his head off". I made sure to repeat this to someone I knew would say it back, and the guy never ever said a cross word to me. These bullies need to know that there will be real consequences and that their victims have someone to stand up for them. Trouble is they often don't.

I was about to post exactly the same.

Once upon a time, and not so very long ago, I would have totally trusted a police comment - but not now. Police behaviour, in the Met particularly, but also nationwide, hasn't made me feel that they are a force to be trusted any more. I fear that they are politically partisan, many are corrupt - at all levels - and they are too happy to accept a "Nothing to see here" hand wave from powerful people/ organisations and just walk on by.

I am sure that there are many good, honest officers at ground level desperately wanting to do a good job and actually fight crime and protect the public, but they are fighting against what seems to have become a corrupt and frankly, lazy, system. Too "woke", too political, too easily swayed by powerful people and not doing their job without bias or prejudice.

I'd like to think I'm wrong -I hope I am. But I no longer have faith in the police as an organisation.

As someone who has been involved in complaints I‘m more surprised that the people making the original complaint didn’t chase it up. We used to get phone calls on a daily basis for people wanting updates … and that was usually about something and nothing. Also, it Was somewhere pretty small fry not a National organisation that takes umpteen complaints an hour ranging from ‘tell Naga never to wear that dress again, it hurts my eyes’, Fiona looked at me funny through the tele, to that bloke on that show … you know … took my seat on the bus all of which have to be logged and assessed And wheat winnowed from chaff.

The original complaint made no mention of age ar much in the way of specifics really (from what has been reported) hence the calls for further information. It seems like the parents had the thought that he would be taken off air on their say without further evidence or investigation. In which case, I have a list (I've put it in alphabetic order to help them) of people they should remove from my screen immediately

Sounds like he had a nervous breakdown as the world found out all his dirty secrets.

Playing the mental health card is a great way to get people off your back in this situation. I’ve got no sympathy at all, presumably he was perfectly happy when wanking over pics of teenagers right up until he got found out.
yes its all been very tactical - first the expensive Lawyer to speak for the boy
then hiding in hospital behind the mental health act - so police and media cant touch him .

Still think his mental health depression documentary was well timed 3 years ago, he’s arrogant to believe he could get away with this. I bet his mental health is playing up he was caught. No sympathy whatsoever only with the families and victims.Hide away you lying cheat paid for by licence payers.

Absolutely not, and what a lazy response this is becoming on Tattle to anyone who hasn't got a 'lock em up and throw away the key' mentality.

I am almost certain more will come out about Huw, but in the case of the first report, there clearly wasn't the evidence there. You arrest and charge people based on evidence, not emotion/a hunch.

So the events of the last 48 hours are becoming much clearer now:

1. Last few days - Huw has been angry and plotting revenge on The Sun, lawyering up, etc - just as Jeremy Vine said.
2. BBC News and Newsnight contact him during the course of yesterday to let him know that they will be broadcasting new allegations that Huw has been creeping on his own junior colleagues at the BBC.
3. Huw takes the wisest course of action and checks himself into a clinic for treatment, leaving his wife to name him and set out the early stage of his PR fightback. He really has no choice but to do this, because the allegations by BBC News at 10 and BBC Newsnight are new allegations and pretty explosive in their own right. This is Huw's attempt to get ahead of the story.
5. It works, for a few hours - an outpouring of sympathy for Huwie Wuwie, especially from misogynistic cis white dudes, most notably Alastair Campbell, who spearheaded the false justification for the illegal war in Iraq, bullied a top scientist to suicide, bullied senior journalists and crapped on their reputation (eg Andrew Gilligan of the BBC) and spent the best part of 15 years firmly lodged up the arse of Rupert Murdoch and The Sun. Oh yeah and anti-Semite misogynist class cosplayer Owen Jones. With friends like that, eh Huw?
6. It also works on The Sun, which gets the shits and announces it won't be publishing any more stories on Huw. Which makes me think the ol' Currant Bun is losing its edge, because a few hours later...
7. News at 10 and the immpeccably credentialed BBC Newsnight leads with allegations that Huw has been creeping on junior colleagues and making them uncomfortable, clearly exploiting a huge imbalance of power, and paving the way for more allegations...
8. ...of which there are clearly loads!!

As to where we are currently - the battle lines are being drawn up between those who think creepy and overbearing behaviour in the workplace and to high school kids is OK, and those of us who think for ourselves.

The Sun has counted itself out of the game, which was dumb, but the Beeb has now turned on its former star and is leading the stories of the allegations against Huw.

This is now firmly entering lolcow territory and I am heeeere for it.

Last night Jeremy Kyle had a chap on who feels the top brass at the BBC are to blame for this. His explanations were spot on ...

Adult men register on a dating app and exchange posts. Some meet up and some pass on photos of themselves. Did HE pay for any photos, we don't know but some say he did. When HE tried to end relationships, he was blackmailed and paid for silence knowing the harmful result it could lead to.

This became out of control for one young man who used the money to fund his drug habit. Mother finds evidence and is understandably shocked. Son refuses to end "friendship" so parents approach police who explain they can't do anything as nothing illegal has taken place.

So far pretty "normal" but seedy, so parents approach BBC. This is where is first goes wrong. Who did they speak to, why no follow up. BBC excuse say they took down wrong phone number! Why wasn't there a complaints procedure for passing on upwards? Who, if anyone, was this complaint passed to. As a senior broadcaster this should have gone directly to his line manager, who in return should have spoken to Tim, the boss to put him in the picture. Said line manager and HR should have spoken to HE same day.

The fact that the BBC didn't act, parents approached the Sun who rubbed their hands together and printed the story, thereby ruining the lives of HE, his family, job and HE suffers MH issues so is admitted into hospital.

HE will regret this for the rest of his life. He and his wife now need to decide the way forward and it's nobody's business. They've suffered enough.

That's what happens, in a lot of cases. The classic example would be Peter Sutcliffe. He was in Broadmoor for years and years, until the doctors eventually said he was well enough to go to prison, and that's what's happened. And in those cases the prison sentence doesn't start until the hospital discharges you.

Bad example, since Sutcliffe faked schizophrenia to get Broadmoor rather than a full trial and prison. You need to read Wicked Beyond Belief, about his rape and masturbation kits, evidence which W Yorks police conveniently lost (even though its documented and in public domain).

west Yorks police were perfectly happy to go along with Sutcliffe's pretence of mental illness because they didn't want a full trial, which would have revealed in court that their institution racism (see: Marcella Claxton's evidence, discounted because she is Black), misogyny ('prostitutes', 'risky lifestyles', 'not innocent women') and general idiocy (the Geordie Tapes) meant that they missed seven chances to catch him (he was interviewed at home seven times but they kept losing the paperwork).

Sonia Szurma Sutcliffe had schizophrenia which is how Sutcliffe knew to imitate the symptoms.

Pick a better “classic” example!

I’m not a fan of Katie Hopkins but on this I agree with her wholeheartedly.

Never thought I would say this but Go Katie 👏👏👏

When I was reading about HE my thoughts were it should be his wife who's having a breakdown after finding out that her near pension age husband has been contacting people younger than their kids for dirty pictures.

And all whilst pretending to be Mr Perfect and upstanding member of the community.
