HOW DO WE KNOW IF THIS WAS FIRST TIME HES DONE IT ?

were only hearing about the last 3 years , there could be several teenagers hes bought images from - on several unregistered PAYG devices
he could have been doing this for years

but police did NOT get a search warrant - so will never know .....

and if the mother didnt speak up - nobody would know about this latest one

i think the mother should make a police complaint because they failed to investgate this

The police can't just apply for search warrants based on a hunch. They do it based on the evidence they have, otherwise we'd have people being harassed left right and centre.

Just with ref to the mother - if I as a lone person had complained about something so serious to a behemoth of an organisation like the BBC and been brickwalled, I might be tempted to hand grenade the whole thing by going to the press to get it to stop. The Sun, notorious in its sensationalist inclinations, might have been the only one to touch it.
Likewise I would have done the same. No one knows what stress this mother is/has been under, or what her wellbeing is, nor her education/background/ethnicity/finances/age….. yet she’s been judged harshly by many on here and vilified because people would rather believe a high profile privileged presenter, than a mother‘s love for her son. What a truly sad world we live in.

Sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum but I can't quite get over the fact that the BBC 'tried to' contact the family once by email and then once by phone. That seems bizarre and very much in the vein of 'lets hope if we don't actually make contact with them then they will forget about it and this can all be pushed under the rug'. You don't send one email or make one phonecall and then not get through to the person's family and give up. Not when a serious and possible criminal offence has occurred! The BBC did not even talk to HE until the night before The Sun were about to print the article. Weeks later. Whaaaat?

That flabbergasts me the most. The lackadaisical approach by the BBC.

We don't know, none of us know, all we have is the facts at hand. But shouting about what we 'Dont' know is absolutely pointless as is speculation as to what 'could've gone on'

bit more than a hunch - £35,000 is not a hunch .....a screaming mother giving details is not a hunch .

those images will never be found if police are not even looking for them .

Sounds like he had a nervous breakdown as the world found out all his dirty secrets.

Playing the mental health card is a great way to get people off your back in this situation. I’ve got no sympathy at all, presumably he was perfectly happy when wanking over pics of teenagers right up until he got found out.

And she got what she set out to do as I'm sure as hell, HE won't be sending her son any more money. I hope if her child is an addict and wants the help, that it's available to him in the same way the mental health facility was made readily available to HE.
I'm sure his parents have been through hell over the past few years.

Police say no laws were broken ......

hes acussed of buying illicit pictures from a 17 year old .

however - the pollice did NOT search his home or hard drives - there could be a PAYG phone full of iimages in a drawer somewhere .

HOW can the police say they investigated ???

seems to me police couldnt be bothered !....... if a bloke in your street was acussed of having those pics - there would be a search warrant .
The reports of no wrong doing only regards the first allegation apparently...was reported on news earlier . Still another 3 allegations, which not sure if police will look into yet

Link? Especially to the "very inappropriately" and "young" parts. The wording was "abusive and inappropriate messgaes to colleagues".

Mail said junior colleagues and the words ‘inappropriate’, ‘suggestive’ and ‘flirtatious’ have been used

I mean junior doesn’t necessarily mean young does it?

At the moment I have a family member who took himself off to an institution at the weekend, having caused a full-scale alert (motorway being shut, police involved, helicopter and dogs out, the whole shebang). We thought he'd gone to jump off a bridge, whereas in fact he was sat in the pub, absolutely wasted, having sent a message basically saying he was ending it all. He's had weeks and months of threatening, and this was basically the last straw. His behaviour has been increasingly erratic and unpredictable over the last few years.

So I can well imagine, knowing what mental illness can do to a person, that Huw has been increasingly erratic or something the last month's, and now this basically witch-hunt has caused him to now be under treatment.

Mental illness isn't just the explosion at the end. It's months and months of previous behaviour that leads to it. And it's easy for people who do not have experience of it to write those behaviours off as all the things being levelled at Huw Edwards right now. But they don't take into consideration that a person's brain is broken and sick, and the behaviours they have been displaying are not made with a healthy, rational mind

Well he's been apparently messaging young people for at least 3 years so that's a very long descent into an episode. I'm sorry but no he is well aware he has episodes of clinical depression its not the first one, he's an intelligent guy so knows to minimise stress but still decides to do it anyway.

35k Over three years from a consenting adult to a consenting adult.
presumably the police have asked the person in receipt “how old were you” and the reply was “18”. If they were on OF the age restrictions would apply, so Huw would be led to believe it was legal.

case closed. I’m not sure what more The police could do. Phones have probably been sold and changed given the period of time

well the police didnt get a search warrant - so wont be able to find images

and Huw is hiding in hospital - protected by mental health act - police cant touch him

In all these threads the outcome has been
  1. The mother - poor woman - the desperation, what an idiot, she is toxic, probably a chav because she went to The Sun getting no action from the BBC, no wonder her child is an addict and estranged, she is to blame for this mess, ha ha woman was expecting a massive payout and it’s backfired
  2. The wife - poor woman, she is beyond humiliated, she looks like Mick Hucknell, she looks old and HE just wanted a young male replacement, the one who is having to hold things together while her husband gets help
  3. HE - mucky old man trawling the net for seeding encounters with boys 40 plus years younger than him, what a peach of a bum, aww poor HE - he is suffering really badly from mental health, leave him alone he is broken, he has done nothing wrong, he is a Wronged Man. He has lost everything.
Still a man’s world, isn’t it?
Edited to add bit in italics in point 1 - courtesy of the charming Serena’s charming and insightful comment on the next page

Thanks for this it's bleeping grim Huws situation is one of his own making yet there's so much internalised misogyny it must be a woman's fault somewhere. No he couldn't keep his dick in his pants that's no ones fault but his own.
