It won't be a popular opinion but my honest answer is mainly just that I feel sorry for her. Her mum died and virtually no one cared, she was made to be a teenage bride and raped repeatedly by her best friend's dad (destroying said relationship with best and only friend), made to have his kids before she was 20, and that's just the start of it. She's making bad decisions because what else can she do? She's completely cornered, as Emma D'Arcy said. I like characters who feel they have no choice and then make sketchy decisions because of it. If she did everything right we wouldn't have a show to watch. She's no Cersei but who can be.

I also headcanon her as an extremely closeted lesbian but I know Rhaenicent shippers are loathed so I won't elaborate further 😭 That's just a bit of extra fun for me. I'm certainly not expecting it to happen on screen or anything 🤣
I like Alicent too for similar reasons, after all her father pimped her out. It might just be because I like Olivia Cook as an actress. She was excellent as Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair.

You can tell Alicent feels completely trapped and alone, I’m half expecting her to run off to the Blacks. Her face when Aemond said no one is allowed to leave the city. (I know she won’t but I feel she wishes she could)
She deffo knows what’s going on is wrong. I’m really struggling with house of dragon if I’m honest. I found every episode of games of thrones episodes watchable. Even if there was no big battle or big event happening. With house of dragon I’ve had a lot of the episodes on in the background because I just don’t find them that gripping. Don’t know maybe it’s just me 🤷‍♀️

Guess I'm the only one that liked the episode 🤣 then again, I'm the person who will fast forward through battle scenes because I find those to be extremely boring, while most people are still mad that they didn't show the gore of the battle at the mill.

I liked that we get to see the aftermath of the battle last episode and we start to see cogs moving into place.

Olivia Cooke's acting was better this episode too, her realization that she really had lost all power and that Aemond is actually worse than Aegon was beautiful. And still she couldn't stay at Aegon's bedside because she herself is emotionally crippled. Aegon's "mummy..." Broke my heart.

And Aemond's face when Helaena asks him if the cost was worth it... He's in his villain era and I'm not Team Green but I do love that it's such a stark contrast to Rhaenyra who's always trying to not burn things down completely and is reticent to stoop low even when Team Green's set the bar in hell from the moment old Vizzy died. Hopefully with the Sea Snake as Hand, she'll be a little more ruthless.

Daemon's gone full cuckoo and that's going to be fun.

I’m just gonna say it; they can’t all be Rook’s Rest. Game of Thrones had lots of filler episodes too, the only difference is they had more source material, POV characters and dialogue to work with (until they didn’t).

It was a good plot building episode, leading us to the sowing of the dragonseeds in the next.

I really enjoyed seeing more of Baela and Jace this episode, finally they have something to do. I also hope we get some more Helaena in the next episode, Phia Saban is so endearing.

I, controversially, don't believe team black is as bad as team green. And I struggle to believe anyone can after the Meleys thing.
Yeah, Targaryens have more respect for the dragons in general whether friend or foe. It was the Green side coming out that they would allow such a thing. They’ve also just shown the smallfolk that dragons aren’t gods, that they can be killed…

I enjoyed the episode but at the danger of sounding like a broken record, it’s a shame that such a central character like Ser Crispy is played by an actor who refuses to move his face. His acting is so weak, it genuinely destroys scenes that should actually be good and important.
The most interesting thing he has done in the last 3 episodes is get his hair cut

I support you in this. The whole time you can see his brain telling him to act.

Don't know how he got through casting. Everyone else can act him out of house and home, even the younger ones.

I liked this episode it was needed for moving the plot along. I liked the interactions with each character especially liked Jace and Baela.
I liked how you can see how the people of the red keep/King's landing are starving and ready to turn on the Greens.
I did think Daemon scene with his Mother was a bit much 🤢, but you can see how the madness of Harenhal (Alys) is getting to Daemon as he started to call himself the King. Ser Simon Strongs face is a picture through these scenes 🤣
Also has anyone else noticed that James Dreyfus is on Rhaenyra's Council from Gimme Gimme Gimme and Notting Hill?

Wow this weeks episode was boring 😴
Wasn’t it just! I thought the series might ramp up a gear after we finally got some proper drama last week but it had just gone backwards again. I appreciate that they are setting scenes to come but the characters are so thinly drawn that it is hard to care for any of them. I know that GoT will always be a hard act to follow, but this really is a watered down version of that magnificent series. I think it was a mistake going back in time. The spin offs following GoT characters would have the benefit of well loved and established characters and we all were eager to know what was next for them. Did we really want a poor man’s version of GoT as a follow up?

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head they should have just done spin offs from the original series. Although I would have really preferred seeing the doom of valiriyah and aegons conquest instead of this. I’ve found the majority of the episodes I’ve just had on in the background and been light watching them. Last week was the only episode I was gripped. Even when episodes of game of thrones didn’t have much going on, they was still watchable. But the acting was a million times better

Were we all eager though? ;) I found the ending of GoT so butchered and beyond any repair with where they took the story and the characters, that I don’t even want to think about what happened next.

I have to agree! My only reaction to hearing they wanted a Jon Snow spin off was a heavy eyeroll!
They fucked up the last season so much!!

I enjoy HoTD because the world is familiar enough but everything else is new!
This season definitely feels slower paced, but I'm hoping it ramps up again with only 3 episodes to go!
