Can't believe it's only a few days away. Airs at 2am in the UK on Monday morning I think.

In a way it's a shame the weather is still good, reminds me of watching GoT first thing on nice days which isn't ideal. I might wait until the evening to watch.

Mixed reviews out of the 4 that have come so far

I still haven’t watched S8. Can’t bear to for a number of reasons. Don’t think it will ever happen now.

Gearing up for this though.
Personally I think the criticism of the final series was a bit OTT. There were some fantastic scenes and the budget for the final battle and all the CGI must have cost a fortune.

I wasn't particularly happy with the end result in terms of who ended up sitting on the throne, and maybe it was a bit rushed to conclusion but still, not as bad as all that.

I think if you have avidly followed the show , read the books and lore (I sound like a geek) since 2011 it was really painful for a show you love so much to finish like that.

Why did they set Jon Snow up to be a mythical hero being revived by the lord of light he was basically useless in series 8 just saying "mah queen". The R+L = J plot line became useless. There was no subtle trajectory for Danys madness she just all out slaughters king's landing. The night king which had a massive build up for 8 series was defeated very early in the series which was very anticlimactic.

It was rushed and did not do any justice to the story building of GOT. GRRM is thankfully doing a sequel with Kit Harrington which will hopefully be more satisfying. D&D definitely rushed the story because they wanted to move on and do something else.

I'm really hoping House of Dragon is better than GOT series 8 they are using the director who did battle of the bastards and hardhome so fingers crossed it will be good. I sound stupid here but I really felt let down by series 8 and I think a lot of fans and cast members did too.

All downloaded and ready to watch tonight 👌

GoT it was the drastic drop in quality and the lame subverting expectations for shock value which left people annoyed. Hbo should have sacked d&d if they were over it all. Hopefully they'll not make the same mistake again.

I've watched HOD today no spoilers but it seems to be even more violent than GOT 🤣. I wasn't initially sure about Matt Smith but he plays the role of Daemon Targaryen really well , he's a good villain.
It was probably better than the GOT pilot episode so far so good.

I really don't want to invest too much into it though if it turns out to be crap so fingers crossed!

I promised my husband I’d wait to watch it with him later. I was so tempted to start it this morning though after taking my kids to school as I didn’t sleep well last night, but then he text saying “I really can’t wait to watch HotD with you tonight!” and I just couldn’t do it. It’d be worse than cheating to him. 😂

I really enjoyed it. It was so nice being back in that world again. I don't know who half the characters are but I'm sure I'll get to grips soon! Mild spoilers:

The "medical stuff" kept pulling me out of it though. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I don't think they'd have cauterization and C-sections in those days?!

I've just finished it - won't give away any spoilers but I found the episode a bit meh, I struggled to follow the story and characters and it didn't hold my attention. Maybe I'll enjoy the 2nd episode more?

Yes they did but it would be when they thought there was absolutely no hope for the mother and baby. The baby was breech and was stuck so absolutely no hope, it's not like they had blood transfusions 🤣 Basically the mother was always going to die as the baby was stuck and she would bleed out and get an infection, so they decided to cut the baby out they have done this since ancient times but it had a 100 percent fatality rate for the mother. They have also used cauterisation since ancient times.

Anyone know where I can watch it?

I think it might be better if you have read fire and blood and the Targaryen history. It does seem to throw you straight in 🤣

Good to know, thank you! I guess it highlighted just just how much more important the heirs were than their mothers lives in those days :(

It was a strong start, but a bit too soon to judge it.

I'm a tad concerned that most reviews are a bit meh and they've seen 6 episodes.

The IMDb average rating currently sits at 9.1 which seems way over the top. Great to hear that theme again. I didn't love the look of the cg king's landing and it was always so strong before, but maybe it'll be more interesting on a less grey day 😆
