Well I've been watching hollyoaks on my break on the days I work from home and today I put it on read the bit where it tells you what's going to happen I thought I can't put myself through it any longer so didn't bother 😅 I'll just keep reading here for updates , had enough now

Agreed the ratings are in the gutter, I was die hard fan from day 1 but I haven't watched an episode for months, the odd time I've put it on I've had to turn it off. It's a shame they haven't been able to turn it around and I feel sorry for the genuinely talented members of the cast.
 
I was a die hard fan and defended to the hills but almost a year ago I had to give up, followed here thinking I would miss loads and want to start watching again ... haven't!
Gave up on Corrie and Emmerdale around then too and finally on Eastenders this month.
Absolute drivel the lot of them

Exactly the same (although I haven’t watched Emmerdale for for about 20 years). But yeah, have the others up last year and never looked back.

Are they starting to do that? Honestly, it’s unbearable to watch now, I find myself skipping so much😂 it won’t improve ratings definitely not. I think Hollyoaks has had its day now, they either need a major overhaul like blow up the whole village and the okay ones survive and start afresh🤣 or just axe it, I would be shocked if they don’t axe it by the end of the year to be honest.

For some reason I couldn't attach the article from Metro. It said Hollyoaks is the most streamed soap so it was moving forward with the times. I think it needs a overhaul. For me I liked it more when there was a good mix of age groups and the adults weren't all liars, cheats and interconnected by affairs, love childs or mcqueens.

It needs the SU bar and the halls back. Actually, it just needs getting rid of now.
Also, I read that Metro article and it confused me because it said it was the most streamed soap and the second most streamed show on all All 4 but months earlier Channel 4 were celebrating getting 1 million views for their show with the one from Killing Eve in it. And that was a limited series scripted show that more people would tune in for rather than a daily soap. So is Hollyoaks getting less than 1 million over all 3 platforms combined?

I can’t see how this is a good decision. With the state of the show, I don’t want to watch it, let alone watch it early!!

Also, has anyone else noticed Hollyoaks seem to still be really suffering from the effects of Covid? the social distancing is glaringly obvious in a way it isn’t like on the few episodes of Corrie and Eastenders. I know they are probably all filming the same, but it just stands out more on HO.

I noticed that the most at Sylver's funeral when Cher said she was leaving..They were all stood on separate steps and so obviously 2 meters apart. It just looked so odd and staged considering they had just been to their loved one's funeral. You would expect them to all be upset and want to hug Cher etc

They've done that a few times over the years and it still hasn't worked lol. The two I can think off the top of my head is the fire at the The Dog and the car crash at Tony's wedding.

I love the episodes when they kill loads of characters off, the bomb at ste, Doug and Sineads flat, the train crash, them days were brilliant though. Feel like tit just want Brendan back🙃

The first one worked because so many great storylines happened after like Hannah’s anorexia, John Paul and Craig drama, Max vs Clare vs Warren, the Who Pushed Clare story, Amy giving birth to Leah and her mother trying to pass her off as her own daughter and then later Brendan and Ste,
 
When you read quick synopsis of the plots like the ones listed above it’s no wonder they are struggling! They always go beyond with the plot but the execution is either rushed or drags on for ages. They’ve covered some great topics over the years, ones which the other soaps won’t cover but now it’s getting amongst the realms of Eldorado 😬
It’s not that much of a shock really when Neighbours is being axed after almost 40 years, Hollyoaks is a young en compared to that. Must be hard to keep a soap going but others have managed (although I don’t massively keep up with the others)

I find they definitely go too far with their storylines too. They have good ideas but can never seem to really pull them off. Like the New Years one was good the whole idea, but they definitely didn’t execute it well.
 
My problem with the current Hollyoaks storylines is something happens then it can be 2 or 3 weeks before it's mentioned again. Like when Summer vanished with a gun, it was 2 weeks before they followed it up. During that time no one seemed concerned yet before they knew she had a gun they were all scared 😂

Now you have someone out there with Warren's psych reports but Chen-Williams isn't concerned about the data breech that could end her career she's busy calling social services about Bobby.

Agree with this. I don’t like the fact that people like Leela just disappear for ages. I know she was on maternity but I’m sure she just left with no storyline

I think covid stopped her having a proper exit. If I remember rightly at the start those heavily pregnant were told to isolate. Her return hasn't been great, she buys the house, loses her job and can't find a date online....🙄

Didn't she go to help with a 'sick aunt' or something?? I also wonder if this whole thing with Ethan is going to give her a better storyline
