Health anxiety #4

Can someone give me a push to call the dentist??

I managed to get a spot at an NHS dentist (miracle I know). Went for a check up (which was hard enough to get myself to go too/).

I have a large metal filling and a small piece of the side tooth has come off. I knew this as could feel it with my tongue.

Dentist was lovely and said they need to remove the large metal filling and put a crown on.

Why am I so worried! She said I could wait until it causes pain but I would risk a root canal which I have had once before... Never again! So I want to go now and get it over with!.

I also have a holiday in 6 weeks so it would be my luck to have pain on holiday if it doesn't get sorted.

Make the call…you really don’t want tooth problems on holiday. I guess at best the tooth could crumble further and at worst you risk infection. It sounds like it will be so much more of a straight forward fix and save you pain in the long run if you have the work done sooner rather than later. I really dread the dentist too, but the thought is often so much worse than actually going.

I posted the other day that I was worried about a mole, anyway it has got me thinking. Has anyone ever had a mole removed just to ease your anxiety?

I know people get them removed for aesthetic reasons and I started to think well why not for anxiety reasons?! 😂 I have about 4 moles, all hidden, that I find really triggering for my HA and I seem to get in a cycle where every few months I'll start to worry they've changed etc. Obviously I know I would have to pay, and they would leave a scar, but I'm seriously wondering about getting them removed to hopefully help me move past the HA.

This is a bit of a brain dump at the moment as I only had the idea yesterday haha and I need to do proper research etc. but was just interested to know the thoughts of others who will be able to relate to how my brain works!

There’s an app called ‘Skinive’ which is really good. Obviously an app isn’t a substitute for seeing a Dr but it offered reassurance in the run up to seeing a professional.

Do drs always include the standard liver/FBC/kidney function tests in all blood tests?

I fucked around and found out with the private hertiliry blood test that you guys told me not to do 🥲 that flagged up high testosterone, so now I have to have a scan and just had a further blood test, where they’re testing for hormones plus the standards

Yes they do and a phlebotomist told me once they're always snowed under in January as the GP Practices get paid for doing FBC's and have an amount in their budget, so they send loads of people for them towards the end of the claim period!

I've just had a blood test for one thing but they did a FBC, liver, kidney etc at the same time.

My husband was told this and he left his and it's never caused him any bother. I would say they told him that in 2018! So, it's upto you. Is it a back tooth?

Thanks for this. You are right of course. I called them... Apparently she only works Thursdays and Fridays and the next one is not until 27th September which is the week I get back from holiday. Apparently my notes say not urgent as the chip is on the surface. Now I just have to hope it stays that way!

Just want to say that I use an app called "Scanoma" and twice now on two separate moles it's said "95%" concerning" when they were in fact both benign.

Obviously good to be cautious but if it ever does say it looks concerning, don't freak out!

My health insurance has an app photo service for skin concerns, where real doctors will evaluate the picture. They specifically say that the service isn't for moles/melanoma concerns, as the photos aren't good enough for that. Not surprised that the app gave you incorrect results, but my, that must have been a bad and anxiety-inducing experience. I'm all for apps, don't get me wrong, but if my health insurance says that they don't think it can be done well enough by photo I trust it and wouldn't use an app for it.

Hi all, I posted previously regarding a freckle/mole I was concerned about and lo and behold I've been referred to the dermatologist because the doctor agreed it looked abnormal.
My question is, would the derm just look at that one and send me on my way? Or can the appointment be used to look at others 😅

The doctor did look at a few others (all normal) but I didn't mention them all because he was clearly in a rush and he already said he'd refer me so I wanted to get out of there.

The dermatologist I saw for one mark (it was solar keratosis) also looked at other areas on my forehead and face so I assume they will look at them if you ask.

Hey Everyone, having a bit of a panic here. I'm 14 days late for my period, tests are negative (defo not preg). Not on any pill or coil etc. Track naturally and have done for 2 years.
Period is ALWAYS on time, a day or two early or a day or two late but always always within the normal range. Been having cramps in my tummy and back for 10 days now, boobs are sensitive (not really that sore), can't stand any noise or someone chatting to me. Soooo moody and out of sorts. My anxiety has now peaked with worry about this whole late/missed period thing. I am now thinking I'm sick with cancer, I'm infertile, I've developed PCOS??? I had a blip with a friend back in June and it caused a lot of stress and a lot of emotion. I seen her for the first time the other day and all is sorted, I thought it could of been the stress of that and I would of gotten it by now? I also started back spinning and weight lifting three weeks ago?
Please someone say this has happened to them and send me on my merry way. It's allllll I can think about and I'm in such a snotty mood over it. Thank you ❤

This has happened to me before!

My cycle is every 28-30 days and last year I was late by 10-12 days.

No idea why. Probably stress to be honest but it hasn't happened again.

My next period arrived on schedule.

Definitely don't worry. Keep an eye on it to see if the next one arrives as predicted.

Sounds like it's on its way

I was hoping you’d comment, you’re like the voice of reason😂 thank you😂❤️

Have you had covid? If not knowingly you could test, could have it but without symptoms? That can mess with your cycle

No, I’ve been fine tbh. I’m usually always moaning about something but since going back to working out, I’ve been feeling really good! The period being late is just thrown me now and I can’t think of anything else!

It's probably stress and taking up more sports a couple of weeks ago, it can throw off your cycle. Cycles are finicky things 😂 they hardly ever do what you expect them to do, thanks to all that "education" we had that they are supposed to always be 28 days, etc...

How old are you?
I'm 27 xx

No, you're so right like we know nothing about our bodies, just told not to get pregnant. It's terrible!

I wouldn’t worry or let it panic you too much but if you miss 3 in a row, I would see your GP but even then it may just be a hormonal imbalance.

I’ve been as late as you a few times over the years. I think the more you worry and stress about it, it makes it even later! Try and relax about it and it will arrive!
