Health anxiety #4

Were you on the pill before you were sterilised?

No I wasn’t. I have thyroid issues that I take medicine for, and have had anemia that I also take iron for and have some appointments with gynaecology and gastro to see if there’s anything there making me anemic. Can iron deficiency mess up periods? I would say they’re quite heavy periods too.
But yeah, just worried about why the cycles are short. last time i had irregular periods it was when I took rigevidon. But that was like 3 years ago now 🤷🏻‍♀️

You could ask at your appointments but I don’t think it’s anything for you to be worrying about. Obviously having such a regular cycle you notice it more but I was always irregular and so I had an odd pattern between 25 days and 49 days.

Does anyone know if having low levels of folic acid means you have folate deficiency anemia? I got told I have low folic acid and GP wants me to take supplements for 4 months, they didn't mention anemia but when I'm googling low folic acid all the search results are about folate deficiency anemia?

Hey guys, hope everyone is ok? I know there have been a few posts / messages on here re people bleeding from their bottom, finding blood in the toilet etc, can anyone share any outcomes that have Ben positive please? My husband has the doctors tomorrow as he has been bleeding heavily from behind for a few days now. He says it’s red but there is a lot, he explained ‘like a nose bleed’ I’ve tried to reassure him, but I’m panicking so much that he has bowel cancer, has anyone experienced anything similar and has been fine? Sorry for the TMI x

Does he have pain when going? Is he straining or constipated?

It could potentially be an anal fissure. If he’s straining or constipated when going, it will keep irritating the fissure and therefore never allowing it to heal. The blood is usually bright red and it can be sore/itchy around the bottom after going to the toilet. It can also feel like your passing broken glass during a bowel movement (from my past experience) Has he tried any creams?

Hope all goes ok at the doctors ❤

Thanks everyone, he’s embarrassed talking to me about it, I have to keep asking and he just says ‘yeah there is a lot of blood’ hasn’t said anything about itchy etc! Hoping for a positive outcome tomorrow, awful overthinking! X

Hi all, my daughter has had a lump on her head, on the bony bit which I believe is called the occipital bone. It started off soft and moveable, the doctor thought it was a lymph node or a cyst. They said to yo neck in 3 weeks if it hasn’t gone, it’ll be 3 weeks on Friday. The lump is still there, it goes when she lays down but comes back when she sits up and now feels a bit harder. She’s 4 years old, I absolutely hate anything to do with lumps and instantly go to worst case scenario. Has anybody got any experience with this?

I have an MRI booked this week as I’ve been having constant reoccurring headaches since the start of the year. I’ve convinced myself it’s a brain tumour. Any advice?

thanks for replying, he said it hurt a little yesterday so he then thought it was a cut, however it’s been like this for nearly a week now, he otherwise feels ok, just said he’s bloated all the time 😢

My teen went to the bathroom and had loads of blood which she thought was diarrhea initially. Turns out she had previously been constipated and caused a tear that then ripped open.

There are tonnes of things that cause bleeding from behind which aren't the big c. Fissures, internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, polyps, constipation. Try not to panic, it will be okay!

How big is it?

My youngest had a node on her occipital bone when she was a newborn. It was about the size of a pea. It was there at least a year and wasn't anything sinister.

I have read that lots of things can upset the lymph node there such as eczema, psoriasis, cradle cap.

Sometimes they pop up and never go down without it being any problem.

Have you had a recent eye test? Where abouts on the head do you feel the headache? Could it be migraines?

A few months back I went through the stats for brain tumors. There's about 12,000 diagnosis a year. 90% of those are benign tumors. So only 1200 bad tumours are diagnosed a year. That's rare!! The stats are on your side

Yes I had my eyes all checked and they are fine. Headache is on the right hand side and sometimes the back of my neck. I also keep getting reoccurring ear infections in my right ear.

Hmmm it’s definitely bigger than a pea. And it changes sizes depends on the different positions she’s in. Did they ever check it, or just wait to it to go?

That's even better then as quite often opticians can spot the signs of a tumour.

Do you have any problems with your neck?

With the ear infection are they definitely that - ie you've seen an ENT?

Reason I ask is there is something called occipital neuralgia (don't worry it's nothing sinister, it's in the same family as migraines).

It's typically one sided and runs to the back of the head/neck. It's to do with the nerves on the scalp.

How big do you think? Is it squishy?

Lymph Nodes are typically shaped like a pea or abit like a kidney bean.

I didn't get it checked out no.

Try not to worry (easier said then done I know!) but the scary lymph nodes are the ones that keep growing. It's very very common for kids to get raised lymph, even the occipital, and it be nothing sinister.

All 3 of my kids have had raised nodes. The eldest has one behind her ear (for years). The middle has one in the neck (for years) and the youngest the occipital.

Yeah I’ve seen the ENT several times and I’m just really prone to constant infections :(

My daughter had something similar that I noticed when she was a few months old. I can’t remember what it was called. She had an ultra sound on it when she was about 2 and they said it was a collection of blood vessels that can occur at birth and it would probably go as she grew, which it did.

Go back and they will probably refer you for an ultra sound just to check it.

Yeah I’d say a kidney bean. Sorry I couldn’t think of anything bigger than a pea and smaller than a grape 🤣🤣. When she’s sitting up it’s squishy and moveable but when she lays down it’s hard. I have terrible anxiety with her as she was ill and in hospital for 2 weeks when she was 2 so I try and not let it cloud my judgement but it’s hard sometimes not to spiral 😵‍💫

I might be late to this and hopefully he has seen a dr. I have heamorroids and sometimes they bleed a lot for 4-5 days before settling down. When I mean a lot, it’s literally like my period from
My butt! It freaks me out but my dr said generally if it’s bright red fresh blood it’s unlikely to be a concern of something sinister (I worry about bowel cancer).
He’s definitely doing the right thing getting it checked. It is likely to be fine but the dr will be able to reassure you.

Hi! I had something very similar earlier this year. They came from nowhere and no pain would even touch the sides.
Like you, I was absolutely certain it was a brain tumour. Thankfully my MRI was fine and the headaches settled down eventually. Still have no idea what bought them on but worrying out it being a tumour certainly didn’t help.
Speaking with the neurologist she said brain tumours would have other signs aside from headaches alone. Things like blurred vision, motor issues etc.
What age are you? Increased headaches could also be menopause? I’m 49 so wonder if that is true for me.
Good luck and I am sure the MRI will be reassuring
