Great British Bake Off #3 2022

Apparently there’s a racism row brewing on Twitter about this week’s Mexican episode because they wore ponchos and sambreros
No doubt people who arent Mexican kicking up a fuss.

There is a video of a guy asking Mexicans if they find his outfit of a poncho and sombrero offensive and they all say no. Asks a load of white university students and they all call him a racist bigot.

Exactly- there's enough lovely classic recipes that they could keep going without it getting stale! Plus there must have been more Mexican bakes they could have picked before resorting to steak tacos! I would have liked to see how everyone fared with tres leche cakes that weren't tiered- it's different enough to be interesting on its own without the extra unnecessary and difficult to achieve tiers! I would have loved to see most of them nail a delicious and well decorated cake rather than most of them struggling with an unrealistic extra task that didn't add anything!
I agree. If you are going to do something themed to a country, don't add something pointless and then complain that it makes it wonky! Or even that the cake is dry- if it was as moist as its meant to be, the thing would sink.

Yawn. Another tedious Twitter ' row' drummed out of all proportion!

Yes some on twitter were saying the leche cake would tilt if made properly, the amount of milk in the bottom layer would make it inevitable. So Paul criticising that was nonsense.

I'm just catching up now. I expected
Rebs
to go, but I thought it would be
Carole
instead of
James.
I think
Carole
will definitely go next week.

EDIT: Okay, I don't know what happened there and why my sentences have gone completely off, but just going to leave it so as to avoid spoilers.

As someone from
Northern Ireland
I feel like I should have been backing
Rebs
but I just couldn't warm to them at all.
Her face when she was put out!! OMG! Cheer up love, it's only a baking competition after all. James was all lovely and smiley and "well I didn't do a good job so mea culpa!" But Rebs looked like someone had just told her she had 2 weeks to live, FFS!! 🙈

I thought it was deliberate! I was going to give you a 👏

At least they didn't do what they did last time and just straight up use Asian bakes for 'Japanese week'

The technical was frustrating. I am glad Prue finally stood up to Paul during a showshopper judging. I can't remember whose it was now even though I watched it 15 minutes ago.
The things I loved about GBBO seem to be solely missing this season. I wonder if this is a hiccup or a sign of the end.

I always liked the showstopper that was a fancy high tea on a cake stand eg sandwiches with their own baked bread, and a selection of small pastries like cream horns and éclairs. In things like that the bake is the star of the show, not the filling.

This series it seems the filling and decoration takes priority.

Yes we were saying this too! Like I want to see them have to make multiple different types of bread for the show stopper. Still annoyed that bread week was barely about the bread 😂

I really couldn’t take to Rebs. Maybe harsh, but she struck me as someone who is not used to ever being criticised or told that she can’t have what she wants. James went straight over to her to commiserate when they were both eliminated, but Rebs was quite self absorbed in her reaction to getting sent home
I didn’t enjoy Mexican week, and the Taco challenge seemed more like a cookery test than a baking one.
I've finally caught up with last week's episode, and was just coming on to say exactly what you have said in your spoiler. Thank goodness they've gone!

I was amazed they did that considering the times we are in, and that channel 4 is meant to be the more liberal channel. I was doubly amazed they didn't learn after the mess of Japanese (or was it just general Asian week the other year, I can't remember).

Theme weeks by country don't work as they end up so watered down there is barely any point to them
