Eurovision Song Contest 2021 #2

I heard a suggestion that if we left the Eurovision, Britain could set up a commonwealth music competition. The problem with that would be the funding as many countries in the commonwealth don't have the finances available to help share the cost. I did think it was a decent idea though as It allows opportunities from talented musicians outside of USA and Europe to showcase their abilities. Especially in countries where many people wouldn't be able to point to on a map.i doubt we'll leave Eurovision anyway, but maybe set up something like that regardless (?).

It would be as you say a funding problem. Like the Commonwealth Games the UK would end up hosting more years than not. At great expense.

The UK would only lose at that too, and then be more of a laughing stock since it would look like we'd left to form our own competition purely because we thought we could win it.

I don't see why we don't go all out and let Bill Bailey do a song. He wants to do it. Earnest doesn't seem to be cutting it, neither does cheesy, we cant so we may as well go full on fun song. If he writes and performs, it will be funny and clever. At least it stands a chance of making people feel good, standing out and getting a few audience points. Its hardly as if we have anything to lose!

I wonder why people are suddenly so obsessed with the Commonwealth? Its been around for years, but its all been 'Oh we'll trade with the Commonwealth after Brexit' and now its 'Oh we'll just do a Commonwealth song contest'. To be fair I do think it would be interesting to have some Indian and African music to be highlighted, but it doesn't have to be a competition. Is there not a Commonwealth concert anyway? Just promote that!

or tim minchin, albeit he is australian, would that be allowed?

Hes be great too. Isn't there a British guy who writes Eurovision songs for other countries who have won in the past?

Jamie Cullum wrote the German winning entry ‘Satellite’ from a few years ago. When he was asked why he hadn’t written a song for the U.K. he said the BBC had never asked him to. There’s also a band called Hurts who are popular in Europe and said numerous times they’d like to do it, but the offer was never taken up. Its quite simple, the BBC didn‘t ask because they don’t want to win. I don’t expect them to take Bill Bailey up either, nor do I expect them to get someone from Drag Race.

I’d really like to see what ITV could do with Eurovision, they’ve said they’d take it on if the Beeb were to drop it. They could afford to host it as well and

They need to bring back the UK population having some say in the song put forward? I genuinely had not heard out song till Saturday night. It was a nothing song from hearing it once. It may have grown on me if I’d heard it more times?
