Eurovision Song Contest 2021 #2

For anyone interested, there were 4 countries who gave points to Israel in the televote: Romania 1, Cyprus 2, France 5 and Azerbaijan a massive 12!

These are the countries the UK voted for in the televote:

Switzerland 1
Norway 2
Italy 3
Ukraine 4
France 5
Malta 6
Finland 7
Bulgaria 8 (wtf?!)
Iceland 10
Lithuania12
We gave Italy THREE? Shameful! Only redeeming thing is that we gave Finland a bit more. I despair at this country sometimes :(

I agree. I know the argument is that the poorer countries wouldnt be able to afford it if the big 5 didnt pay more, but the BBC still get huge ratings for quite a cheap show, so just because you pay more, doesnt mean you should automatically get through to the final. Or give the Big 5 slot to Sweden. They could pay the extra and they love Eurovision whereas here, its just a joke and cheap TV

The "poorer countries"...no wonder the UK got zero points with that sort of attitude.

Are there any petitions I can sign or organisations I can write to to make sure Amanda bleeping Holden is not allowed anywhere near Eurovision ever again?

I mean what an absolute cringefest, the ridiculous outfit, the embarassing attempt at Dutch and then her crass joke about languages, topped off with full cringe "I'm Amanda Holden". Just duck right off you talentless cowbag.
The 'I'm Amanda Holden' was pure cringe. Everybody knows Eurovision is high camp and we all laugh at it - but the participants need to take it seriously - which is what makes it funnier. Holden going in 'tee hee isn't this all camp and aren't I hilarious' in her stupid dress misses the point entirely.

I read the best description of James in DM comments - 'He looked like he was dressed for going on to an illegal dog fight afterwards'.

I know the UK/BBC is one of the main contributors if not the largest so we automatically qualify. France Germany and Spain are also amongst the biggest hence qualify.
I would love to know how much we pay. All I can find out is that it was 310K in 2012 so it will be considerably more now.
The BBC is so archaic and cagey but in its present state its days are numbered.

Lol! That's really not how Eurovision works. Just ask Greece and Cyprus who give each other douze points every year without fail. It's a running joke. When I was a kid, UK and Ireland always used to throw a few points each others way, but I guess we don't care to do that any more now that we're never even in the contest.
Yep, that's why they got that little kid on to read the votes out. It's hard-wired into them from birth. 12 points goes tooooo.....

But it's not true that just the 5 countries that pay up are rich and the rest of Europe is poor which is what you were insinuating.
No it wasn't. I was saying that the money that the big 5 pay subsidise the poorer countries. Not that everyone outside the Big 5 is 'poor'. I know full well that the Netherlands etc arent 'poor' so they would not really be affected. The ones who can't afford it would be.

Yet another UK media personality showing us why we aren't popular in this:

What an absolutely idiotic tweet to write.

I find the left and right of the arguments so silly. What I saw last night on twitter gave me a migraine haha. Those with EU flags on their profiles moaning about how this is why we are hated by Europe. Then on the flip side you get the idiots on the right like Tom Harwood and others tweeting hyperbolic statements like this. I've no idea if they are being serious, but these people seem to tweet without a thought of what they are tweeting. It is one of the biggest reasons I cannot stand social media, more so twitter.

Might be an unpopular option but I think Britain would do better without automatic qualification. It’s the song is good enough it will make the final and have more of a chance of getting points.

I think they should ditch automatic qualification too. Italy may have won but Spain,Germany , UK and The Netherlands who all automatically qualified, where the bottom 4 places.

I don't understand why everyone gets so upset. Does anyone in the UK watch it with the expectation that we might actually win? I know I don't.

The only thing that did piss me off last night is that in the jury vote Cyprus/Greece still gave each other 12 points. I expect it from the public vote but I would expect a professional jury to be a lot more objective.

i don't expect to win ever when watching it but i end up feeling really upset for the contestant that's been chosen for us every single time. that's what upsets me more than anything, not that we don't win but that the contestant has to be put through what is in all honesty excruciating humiliation.
