It’s just such poor manners. Even as a child I was taught to not chew loudly or smack my lips, and why would you tell people you’re having a luxe lunch? So tacky and completely tone deaf, especially given that she’s traveling for leisure during a global pandemic, dining out, and many people are struggling to pay bills.
And if you were to call her out on her dining out she’d say she’s supporting local businesses, which, indirectly, she may be doing, but do you have to show off, too? Her tone is clearly “look at me and how special I am and how much disposable income I have (even though I don’t have a real job).”

Elle's lack of travel always baffled me. For someone with the financial means and independence, I don't understand how she is content to simply go to Hawaii every few months. I'd be bored with the same restaurants and beaches! At least Rick and Joe got her to visit another island for a few days without her mother.

But looking back at when Elle has travelled, it's quite sad how she behaves. She went to Palm Springs once for a friend's wedding and actually spent a day at the outlet mall. Can you imagine flying in for a weekend wedding and devoting a day to solo shipping? I'd much rather hang out at the resort with friends or explore the town a bit. But no, it was more important she get to the Helmut Lang outlet for suits and Chanel for discount shoes. She even made a comment about wanting more suitcases so she could get luxury sheets at Frette. I don't even know what a "luxury sheet" is, but that's besides the point.

It's quite sad that a 30-something woman has no interest in anything beyond shopping, her cats, and trying to find a husband.
I hate to admit it but my husband and I went to a wedding in North Carolina that we just basically flew in and out for, but while the other guests woke up early to see the "sites" of the area (which just seemed to be bull statues we saw enough of in our drive from the airport), we just spent a leisurely day at the mall. I think the guests were horrified at the idea that we had had not bothered to do anything else but in my defense, we were from a city (which meant malls are not really a thing) and I had not been to a traditional mall in over a decade and certainly never one as nice as that one so it was a bit of a treat for us---- they had some nice porch swings for us to sit on. Also my husband had fled North Carolina (where he is from) and never really has much interest in going back so we were really just there for the wedding.

Isn't Wolfgang's Steakhouse a chain? She might be supporting a business but it's certainly not a small or even real local business.

I agree she's probably trying to show off, though I personally thought she was trying to get the restaurants to give her free meals by tagging them and writing these pseudo reviews on her stories. Someone else mentioned that a lot of small influencers do this when they want free stuff and attention from brands.

I totally understand what you're saying -- if I was in Palm Springs I'd probably visit that outlet mall because it seemed nice and had stores I've never had access to, living in Canada.

I guess it struck me as odd that Elle went alone out to the outlet mall despite having other single friends at the wedding who she hadn't seen in years. I'm sure the rest of them went out to see the sights or even just relaxed around the pool.

Elle certainly didn't need to go shopping, because the mall had all the brands she shops at in Vancouver, with a few exceptions. The situation screamed "shopping addiction" and it seemed almost anti-social to ditch her friends to go shopping. It was also a 40 minute drive each way to the mall - what a waste!

Totally. Never underestimate the impact of Elle's shopping addiction on her choices, both big and small.

If she had any control over it, she probably could have been married to Rick now. She might have been amrried to Joe even (maybe not though if she could control the shopping but not the selfishness).

Not exactly a prize, mind you, but her addiciton seems to dictate almost everything about her life.

Yeah agree it seems weird to do if you had friends to catch up with (we didn't know anyone else attending said wedding we went to).

It's totally plausible Elle was ditched or encouraged to go shopping alone. In that same video, Elle was walking with a friend and her friend pointed out a turtle hiding in the grass. I have to say, I sort of flinched at Elle's reaction - "Hehe, oh my God! Look at that little guy. Hiiii Mr. Turtle! You little cutie pie! Hehehe! What are hiding from, all tucked in that like! Awwwwwww so cute! Hehehe! He's green like the grass!". It reminded me of a six year old child, and was incredibly ditzy and unappealing.

I just couldn't be around someone that high-energy and childish for a weekend. Especially when all her friends went to graduate school with her and are probably lawyers. I have no idea how she did at Joe's law firm super-fancy Christmas dinner with her squealing and giggling.

If you ladies are looking for a great Youtuber from Hawaii, check out Malama Life she shows the island and is very calm and down to earth.

I never understand why Elle has never gone to France, Belgium or Italy. she has the money or at least her mom has and they don't work so why not?

I'm sure she'd tell the world at least every second video/Instagram post that she's been to Japan. So I'm 100% certain she has never been to Japan. In fact, for someone coming from a middle class background who claims to be so KuLtUrEd, she's not well-travelled at all.

She was probably at the Narita airport for a layover and now she's making it sound like she's actually been to the country. 😂

I think it's because Ginette has no interest. If Ginette had interest, Elle could just tag along on a free trip and try to wheedle her mum into upgrades e.g. better hotels, better restaurants

but if Ginette has no interest, it would be difficult for Elle to convince her mum to go on these trips + for her to pay for them.

The problem is that Ginette won't naturally want to spend her money on a luxurious vacation (see Tahiti cruise trip that Elle made a big deal over because she paid). So it's not so easy for Elle to get to go on such vacations.

Honestly the real problem is that she has no friends. Everyone who studied in the UK went on trips all the time, there were extremely affordable flights or Eurostar to Paris / Belgium etc. And if you wanted to be bougie, there's no lack of wealthy students to travel with?! Many have family homes abroad or go on ski trips during the many school breaks?!

Elle is just in a very awkward position. She can't fit in with the rich kids (she can't fit in with wealthy adults either for that matter), she can't find regular friends to go on trips with, and she's attached to the hip with a mother who is perfectly content in a very small bubble - and hence so is she.

At the end of the day, I don't think Elle wants to travel if it's not 5*. So if nobody is offering to pay for it, she won't go. Whereas Hawaii is cheap for Elle, and once she goes over, it's also easy to wheedle her mum to splurge on a couple of meals and a present. and most importantly, she gets the "optics" and can brag about her mother's "property" in Hawaii to impress average Joes (clearly it didn't fool the most important JOE of all).

It must be so awkward to be Elle. Not nearly wealthy or interesting enough to fit in with the rich kids, but too snobby and uptight to make friends with other regular folks. She just clings onto her mother and whichever man she sinks her hooks into at that moment. Sounds like a pretty miserable position to be in.

Here is the video where they go to Whistler for Elle's work retreat, Joe attempts to get her to do outdoor activities, and they film a ton of meals in fancy restaurants: https://we.tl/t-ccOF2l1gxY

The "can we eat now!?!" moment begins at 23:30. It's quite playful -- it's not like he snaps at her -- but I'm sure underneath he was tired of her constant filming on this trip.

A special highlight for me is at 11:25. It's Saturday and Joe is in the office working because they are taking Monday and Tuesday off work. Elle says they are both "working hard" since she has to go pick up a file she forgot at work and mail some packages at her favourite post office. How ridiculous to compare running errands on a Saturday to someone who is actually in the office doing work. No wonder Joe was turned off by her vapidness and fake worth ethic.

OMG... It's Friday, the first day of the vlog, and she's at a ramen place at 11 AM?! Did she ever do any work at that office? Same when she came back from Whistler, 'such a busy morning at work' and she's trying clothes on at Nordstrom... 🙄 I don't think she knows what busy is. To her deleting emails equals busy.

Also, her and Joe were an awful match. His dry sense of humour was clearly challenging to her and he treated her like a slow child.

I'm super sorry for that cat. His fur was messy and matted. I have a senior cat and they need to be brushed and given baths after reaching a certain age. They can't groom themselves properly because they can have arthritis etc., so you need to help them by cleaning them. Younger cats can clean themselves easily but it can be a challenge for older felines, just like with elderly people who may need assistance with washing. Doesn't look like Smelle took good care of Fufu.

Fufu looked so rough near the end poor guy.

What is she even doing to her hair at the beginning of that whistler vlog? I'm very low maintenance hair wise (I put it in a pony tail then go) so maybe I'm just not up with hair stuff but she's spraying hair spray randomly into her un styled hair. I thought you weren't supposed to heat treat your hair with wet hair spray in it???

Also for a lady who "loves cooking so much" Joe sure does a lot of the cooking. I love a guy who cooks so no shade there but what did she actually bring to the relationship if her big selling point was being a "gud cuck" but Joe seems to cook a lot for her and they went out or got take out a lot as well.
