I’m watching classic episodes and there was much more interaction between the characters and it felt more natural. You had the likes of Jim, Patrick, Keith, Gary and Minty who were always at the bar. Alfie, Peggy etc interacting with them. The Knights don’t have that natural chemistry with any of the characters and Linda doesn’t blend in with them at all. She feels shoe horned in.

they’ve really ruined the community feel of it all recently. i don’t watch any other soaps but was over my parents’ this week while my mum was watching coronation street and you could really see there how much better the full cast interact with each other.

doing these block weeks focusing on families at at time just doesn’t work from either a storyline pov or in actually mixing the characters. there are no friendship groups, no one seems to really mix with anyone outside of their allocated storyline of the time. it’s so strange.

I completely agree about Linda. She just feels like a spare part, someone who does a few shifts at the Vic but isn’t one of the family. It would have been so much better to go with the original plan of her and Sharon running the pub together.

I still watch Coronation Street and that has even less of a community feel than EE imo. The pub has been practically empty since covid, you’ve got characters like Sally and Gail who were best friends and only had a couple of scenes together recently for the first time in what feels like years

Well done @AdApathy for bagging the thread title.

Nugget has ben joined by chips and his muvvvva, Sharon is getting lovebombed by Keanuuuuu to stop her going to the Middle East, Rocky has had a character assassination, Jay paid Lola-look-a-like for sex, and Ian Beale is a twit.
What’s the chips reference I can’t catch up with the thread I’m too far back 😅

It's so strange! Where is the continuity? No Kat or Phil either who are the EE bread and butter.
The absence of Kat and Phil since their wedding is a bit odd, and Phil hasn't been involved with the Jay storyline.

I don't mind that the focus changes each week but it is annoying being left hanging with some stories (like Theo & Stacey).

Next week is going to feature Shazza and her side fringe a lot apparently 😐

I think it would add to it. Exploring both grief and male suicides, but only if it was done tactfully with real advisors prompting the writers.
I still think it would dampen the grief over Lola of the other characters: Billy & Honey, Ben & Callum, Lexi, etc., but I do agree that exploring Jay’s grief leading him to suicide would be interesting. Of course it does unfortunately happen. 💔

I just really doubt they’re going to kill Jay off. I don’t think they’d have had him survive the crash if he’s just going to die afterwards, because everything his family said to him in the hospital could have been said after his death, too. And I think Jamie Borthwick’s post was too jokey if his character was to actually die. The other reason I don’t think Jamie Borthwick is leaving for good is because I think this would have gotten out like everything else in this show is spoiled. 🙄

But I obviously could be wrong.

Jamie's post lessened the shock value of that episode alone though. It at least hinted something was going to happen, where I think it would've been better to have it completely a surprise and go for the full WTF factor. Regardless of if he lives or dies, anyone who saw it had that shock slightly dampened by it. Just my opinion obvs.

If he does live, I hope they do more with him, he is really capable , but always gets more of the sidekick roles. He needs pulling away from most of Ben's stories to let him breathe on his own. He is forever in Ben's shadow.

I think if they were going to do male suicide they would have made a huge deal out of it. They were hinting that Mick was going in that direction a while back and there were loads of spoilers, probably because people need to be warned if things are triggering.
