Absolutely, any man can be a father, a dad is something entirely different.
Martin’s a great dad to Arthur too 😀
Poor Martin, he's had a wild ride really: weapon of a mother, became a dad while only a kid himself, accidentally killed his mate, married to Sonia, feuding with the Mitchells, getting a new head, getting with Stacey and being a dad to her kids only for her to have another with his best mate who was later murdered, taking up with psycho Ruby, and now his 12 year old is pregnant! I'm surprised he hasn't found religion tbh.

i love that you’ve included “married to sonia” in amongst all this absolute trauma 🤣

i always thought new martin looks very much like old martin too, it was a great recast because of how much the actors resemble each other (imo anyway!) but he gets a bad run on this show and hasn’t really had many storylines recently where he’s the centre point. he is the original baby of this show (was he born in the first episode? certainly the first year iirc), give him a proper plot!

I watched the original episodes a few years back. Pauline finds out she’s pregnant with Martin in the first episode and there’s quite a bit of drama around her being an ‘old’ mum at 40. Agreed he needs some storylines. The Ruby thing was just tit.

Marrying sonia may well have tipped him over the edge. In fairness I really like Martin and think Stacey not telling him before was crappy.

thank you! i knew there was some kind of link between him and the first episode but couldn’t remember exactly what.

It was a good recast. They’re both tall too

I feel like Martin needs a new love interest, mentally stable though. Poor lads been through enough. I think he’s a really likeable character.

he’s one of the most genuinely likeable characters on the show right now tbh. he always does his best for his family (and his friends) and he’s never really deliberately done anything awful to anyone (that i can remember!). he deserves a nice love interest, or at least a positive spotlight.

He killed Jamie! Which I remember being gutted about at the time but watching classic eastenders now I just wish he'd bloody hurry up 🙊

and broke my teenage heart 😫😭

to be fair, he didn’t do it deliberately and was genuinely distraught by it afterwards.

but same! i’m watching classic eastenders too and jamie is the absolute worst! at the time i remember being so jealous of sonia but he really isn’t great to her most of the time.

James Bye / Martin was in the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing and came across as a genuinely lovely man. He worked really hard, was never going to win it but gave it his all.

I thought he was very good in last night's episode. A natural burst of anger and a lot of confusion and upset, well played.
I think Stacey was afraid to tell him who Lily said it was, well of course she had promised she wouldn't but also, in case he would blow up and go mad at the boy.

I also thought when he and Stacey had the storyline where she had to be hospitalised after Arthur's birth, they both played their parts brilliantly.
