There are now going to be no capacity limits so restaurants will be allowed to make their own decisions on whether they return to full capacity or not. I suspect most will as they can then return to higher profit.
Strange because I called up three well known London restaurants and they’ve said that they don’t know if they can go back to full capacity yet

They may not want to comment yet and just tell random people until a decision has come from higher up/ their management, I suspect they are waiting to see what everyone else does / public opinion is.

Capacity limits and 1m rule have definitely been lifted so it is up to them.

I have mixed emotions about people's feelings on here.
I remember reading how people were angry about all the lockdown protests and how we still had an element of freedom so what was the point.

The point was they weren't just protesting about you being able to see family and friends, it was about you being able to go eat, drink, swim, holiday without discrimination - despite your vaccine status, they saw what was happening now and had to put up with being labeled conspiracy theorists.
Or that people would still feel guilty about wearing a mask even though rules say you didn't have too because of the scaremongering.

Now today we hear that those basic freedoms you've been given back are still be governed in some ways

I feel sad that people are just seeing this (gaslighting is a killer I know) and sad were still in this situation, but hopeful that more people may now be on-board and that maybe, just maybe the tide might turn 🤞

I witnessed one of these protests with children on Saturday has nothing to do with lockdown/vaccines was just an opportunity for a load of thugs to turn up swear, intimidate others and picks fights with the general public.

the tide will turn, honestly this virus is awful, and I understood the initial measures and how cautious (?) the government are being now

this is not directed at you, but there is no conspiracy here, the government isn't making up all these rules to take away our freedoms

i'm a children's doctor and i was pulled away twice to work on the adult wards and i'll never forget what i saw

i don't like the government's decisions, they've never protected us in healthcare even at the height of the pandemic, but things will get back to normal, its just slow

Chances are it's for the management to make that decision and it's not been made yet
I won't be surprised if some venues in higher infection areas continue to operate at a reduced capacity

Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about the announcement. I think it's too early to really be lifting restrictions like this and it seems that they may be coming back for autumn/winter - though now they can easily blame it on the public and not themselves!
Imo the masks should have been kept as mandatory in some settings rather than on a choice basis, especially as the government is still advising their use anyway

So I’ve got a question…. I’m in wales and obviously that means my gp is here and we don’t have the covid passport app here. I have an event in England in August and it’s indoors so thinking they may be asking for proof of jabs. I’ve had both of mine but have no proof other than the little calling card thingy! I’m sure there will be lots of people in the same position. I suppose an alternative is I could do a LFT the day of the event and hope that’s enough? I read someone on BBC that they would ask for proof of a negative PCR but aren’t those the ones that you only do if you have symptoms  I do feel sorry for venues as there is so much conflicting information being put out!

Full house again

I agree that they haven't protected healthcare, I work with the vulnerable and have seen what's gone on.
I agree to a point that they have to be cautious, but the rules make no sense (and haven't for a long time) and the rules punish the working class... meanwhile the rich get richer and the really rich and privileged can do as they please.

I don't think anything now is a conspiracy, because it's all becoming true. Temporary laws are renowned in history to become permanent laws (note the recent sneaked in policing bill).
We've been told since the start that this is the new normal, we've been told from the start that covid is here to stay, so if its here to stay then so are all these new laws and restrictions.
I don't think that conspiracy, I think this far on its just common sense

Thats awful, and like with any other protest or mass gathering of people, the few always ruin it for the majority - take the football as prime example

You can get a certificate of proof. Check the gov. website. It's both sent to your phone and a paper copy.

These laws and restrictions will not stay, I’ll bet my life on it

The pandemic is still roaring through other countries, it’s far from gone…it will become endemic and then we’ll all forget about it

I can never agree that the government is purposefully taking away our freedoms for some made up reason

I really and truly hope you're right, but I guess we'll soon find out who is...

I'm not sure what what mean by made up reason?
I'm not saying covid isn't real at all, but I do think that they're using it to push through laws that ordinarily people would never have agreed with, and laws that will probably continue to stay, then by the time it's endemic its too late to change them
