Ah, I see. I did read that the UK may not even vaccinate children. In Canada, we vaccinated kids 12+ and it made a huge difference. We had children ending up in hospitals for a while.

Well they certainly won't offer the vaccine to children before the adult vaccine rollout is completed and we're only about 75% of the way through that. Still Sajid Javid says it's better for our health to remove all restrictions in a couple of weeks time and let's face it he'd know.

Whatever your feelings on children being vaccinated there will be a natural “firebreak”’over the summer holidays anyway.

Personally I think people should be given the choice, there are children out of school because of health issues and they aren’t vaccinated.

Who is Sajid?

We opened vaccines up to everyone 12+ when we hit a certain % with a first dose.
We have 40% fully dosed in my province and all restrictions were removed last week.

It’s growing in Canada according to this guy , UK hospital admissions on the rise too just under 2000 in hospital

He's our newly appointed Minister for Health. The government seem to be trailing that their policy will be to lift all restrictions on 19th July. It will be extremely popular with some which IMO is why they are doing it. Whether it's the right thing to be doing is another matter.

Our original plan for lifting restrictions was predicated on the basis that the first jab would give enough protection but the evidence is that the Delta variant requires both to get a similar level of protection. The month delay in lifting restrictions was done on the basis of getting as many people vaccinated as possible but actually the rate of vaccination is slowing due to vaccine supply problems.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus of opinion on vaccinating children yet and as far as I know the government is still waiting for advice on it's safety and the merits of doing so.

Yep Delta is becoming dominant which isn't surprising. But Alberta which he mentions is where I live...in May we were at 2k cases a day, now are are double digits. The city I am in at one point was 1,000 a day in May and is now at around 20-30 a day. So am not too concerned. Schools are on holiday here now til September so I don't think numbers will increase much and by the Fall, vaccines are hopefully going to be approved for the younger kids.

I’m not sure vaccinating kids will make much of a difference there’s growing numbers of vaccinated people getting ill in Israel so it’s still spreading regardless

Still no statistics from the government which tell us how many people are in hospital due to effects of COVID, rather than people who are in hospital for other reasons and co-incidentally have COVID.
Not giving much away but there’s about 350 per day being admitted .

I am also in Canada. Vaccinating kids has made a huge difference here.
The other person has said there’s not much Delta variant there it seems to make vaccine efficacy not as robust as it was .

Has this wave peaked yet! When the heck is it going to come back down?

If it’s making people ill despite 2 vaccines how the hell is this ever going to end?

Only two thirds of the adult population have been fully vaccinated, that's about half the total population.

Anyway does it matter? Robert Jenrick said on Marr this morning that there's going to be "exponential growth in Covid-19 cases" but we "just have to live with it now". Javid says "we have to live with it like flu". They are openly pursuing a herd immunity strategy now. The thinking seems to be that the NHS probably won't be overwhelmed so just let things take their course.

The use of a scary percentage rather than a real number tells you all you need to know about this particular piece of pro-lockdown extremism.
That’s actually a high number for the amount of people in the group they’re talking about, but again no age range of those seriously ill

I wonder will the other nations follow suit

Very pleased about the mask news! For me personally this was the only thing making my day to day life feel abnormal (that and wfh still but I have gotten used to that I suppose!)

The people desperately trying to cling to the idea that we need to keep restrictions despite the evident vaccine success is something I am probably enjoying a little bit too much 🙊

Evidently they are squirming at the idea that they can’t scaremonger anymore about ‘the new normal’ or ‘this is just life now’, what a shame 🥲

As long as they aren’t in hospital or dying, Gov don’t care.

Vaccines weaken the illness and we just crack on.
Yes, I think they’re doing away with the QR codes too

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how many of them keep coming forward for their jabs to keep it that way .

Does vaccinating make it harder to pass on the virus to those who aren’t vaccinated? I find this whole vaccinating thing confusing if people are still catching it after 2 vaccines,

The vaccine isn't 100% effective. I think its about 85%. So for every 100 people who are double jabbed 15 will still catch it. Multiply that up and you will still get thousands catching it. However they still shouldn't get seriously ill, need hospital treatment or die.
