I’m not the original poster but banning protests is a big no no in democratic countries. I don’t think I need to elaborate on why it’s bad to ban protests- freedom of speech/ expression etc to say the least.

Whilst I agree with what you say, at the moment they’re not really a wise idea in terms of controlling the spread of a virus. I am not in agreement of banning them ordinarily but in this present time I do agree with banning them. I feel It’s no different to the other restrictions being placed on us at the moment to minimise the spread.

Do protests actually cause a rise? They're outside, with most people wearing masks? It's difficult - anything that could cause any spread should be limited but the thought of a gov saying protests can't go ahead - going into dangerous territory I think?

Well I think if it’s Ok for hundreds to gather protesting why is it not Ok for hundreds to gather for weddings/wakes these can be held outdoors too as can numerous other things ...what's the difference

Absolutely spot on.

And on another note. The majority of the "lost" results were from Manchester. This isn't a glitch, it's inexcusable. Makes me wonder whether someone was trying to hide something.

The north west of England will be affected the most by the testing blunder according to an senior health official

Anythings possible they've launched an investigation..

It’s an important question for all industry, people are hanging on by a thread and want to know what the exit strategy is, and should they try to battle on this winter or give up.

That’s teaching though, it’s not the teaching that’s the issue it’s students halls and socialisation
It is sad as our yearly Christmas Eve tradition is to go to the Nutcracker and that isn't happening this year.

And therefore not allowing an entire industry to collapse! My wedding venue has more than enough lawn to host outdoor marquee weddings and we would 100% invest in one if this was an option. Instead they have left everyone to just rot.

I can't understand their thinking not everyone has to get highly intoxicated at weddings it could be workable with the right restrictions in place and like you said marquees for guests it's such a waste of an industry tbh..No different to outside dining only under the heading of wedding

Well at a wedding people wouldn't be wearing masks as drinking and eating ... a wake, no idea, guess not? that's why 30 allowed at funerals as easier to do

My point is - we're a democracy so have the right to protest. If we take away that right, are we still in a democracy? I do understand what you're saying though.

I don't really agree either way tbh - just want everyone to stay at home as much as they can, wear a sodding mask, and try and limit the spread of this thing as much as we all can. Personally I wouldn't attend a wedding, or a protest.

We had huge protests here for BLM and there was not an uptick in cases from them... I'd say it was 50/50 in terms of mask-wearing.

Im 50/50 on this right now tbh,
But I do think they need to be controlled until the pandemic is under control because right now it’s a piss take.

this lot aren’t protesting for anything worth while, they lined grafton street in Dublin on Saturday shouting at shoppers to take their masks off, that’s not a protest and none of us should have to stand by and watch that happening when we’re all sacrificing so much.

you’re a dickhead we get it, it’s your constitutional right to be a dickhead but do it at a 2M distance and cover your cake hole, and kindly piss all the way off.

This is how I was feeling but you’ve put it a lot better than I ever could. Of course people should be allowed to stand up for what they believe in and have free speech but having massive crowds who are often speaking a lot of nonsense (anti mask wearers, Covid is a conspiracy etc) are not really helping the situation when we are supposed to be social distancing and trying to be sensible.

Tell me about it this weekend alone we've had cases at school (the whole canteen staff are off isolating ) my husbands friend at work is isolating as his son tested pos ,a friend of my sister her kids have it and now my sons football coach has texted to say training is cancelled because of a pos case ..it's bloody rampant here we've had over 600 cases today again ..

I saw your cases had almost tripled this Monday compared to last Monday. What is your rate per 100k now?

Two schools and a social club near me have had to close. The social club had let a private party go ahead last week and now they’ve all fucking tested positive. One of these people works in a factory that has also had to close down. Shows how easy it is for it to spread without harder restrictions and people correctly following the rules. It’s never ending isn’t it?
