It's definitely true, my father in law was all set to go into hospital a couple of weeks ago to start his bowel cancer treatment, and it got postponed, seemingly indefinitely, just days beforehand because the NHS hospitals have pretty much binned off everything other than treating CV.

So, he'll probably die now, because by the time they get the non-CV treatments started again, and get stuck into the backlog, he might well be too far along to warrant starting treatment.

You can imagine my family's house has not been a happy place the last few weeks, because of this.

Personally I was part way through a course of podiatry treatment which has now been shelved, so that'll have to restart all over again at some point. Nothing compared to being told your cancer treatment is cancelled of course, but still irritating. Have no idea why they've cancelled EVERYTHING, I mean what are the NHS podiatrists really now doing for coronavirus? My treatment was never in hospitals, it was in dedicated NHS podiatry rooms in different community health centres. No way those rooms or specialists are now turned over to coronavirus, they are all just standing idle, because the NHS management had this kneejerk reaction to shut everything down.

Now that they have these various Nightingale temporary hospitals around the country ready and available, the regular hospitals should all be allowed to convert back to their regular every day operations and treatments, otherwise there's going to be enormous other health problems for them to get through, such as my foot problems, and a load of unnecessarily dead people who were all set for their cancer treatment like my Father in Law.
That's disgraceful the media should be made aware of this ! I don't live in England where I live they literally moved covid cases as far away as possible from child and vulnerable patients..why aren't people shouting this from the rooftops??....Our cancer services are still running as normal and people are still being seen on the 2 week rule .A friend is going through treatment atm and all her appointments are as normal, the only things being put on hold are routine outpatient app and non essential surgery..

Reading so many of your stories about cancer treatment.....

Im gonna say it again, why are these questions not being asked at 4.30 daily 🤔
Why did we get a week of “journalists” asking where they could send flowers for Boris.

actual joke.
I really didn’t think that was true, I’m shocked, and sending lots of love to everyone here effected by cancer xxx

Yep that's another example. The diabetic retinopathy is another thing I go for, once every four months, and the last few times I've been they've been talking about having to laser my eyes due to damage they've spotted. But that's all on indefinite hold as well. Why? Just like my podiatry, it takes place in a specialist centre (Moorfields Eye Hospital) with dedicated facilities (basically a lot of dark rooms with eye charts), and with specialist eye doctors and specialist nurses that operate the retina photography cameras. Not a chance that any of those rooms or people have been turned over to fighting Coronavirus. Baffling why the NHS has just stopped so much, even in these highly specialist centres that you couldn't fit a single coronavirus bed into if you tried. Makes me quite mad.

the first week we had a case here the cancer ward I know of was moved to the private wing of the hospital (I remember posting about it on the thread and if feels like forever ago now) I know of someone who’s a day patient now who was discharged a few weeks before this all started and their treatment hasn’t stopped, but that whole part have been cut off from the main hospital.
(She actually went home to a son who was later diagnosed with corona but thankfully both are ok!)

my mum had a scan postponed until next month, but that’s a routine checkup and not “critical” (although obviously important)

As far as I understood it cancer treatments are not stopped fully. Treatments have been postponed or changes on a case by case basis for those who will be much more at risk of catching covid either from their weakened immune system but also from actually being in a hospital. The idea that people are dying from cancer so they are safe from a virus they wouldn’t have died from isn’t true. This isn’t a rule for all cancer patients, many are still receiving treatment.
And many arent receiving treatment. Dont you think if you had advanced cancer and were told 'sorry, your treatment is off the table for the foreseeable', that you would be heart broken and angry that your option is taken away? I'm sure there are lots of people who would rather take the chance of contracting this virus than having no choice but to sit day after day knowing their cancer may be spreading and most definitely ending their life.

Thank you so much for this! I’ve done some online shopping which is bad in itself I know and been spending lots of time doing self care- yoga, skincare, reading and long baths, it just feels like such a long time and I worry that it will be extended for people like us until a vaccine is available.

You’re welcome, I hope it helped! I was going to suggest yoga but stopped myself as I get told to do yoga all the time by well meaning people who think it will cure all my ails! 😂
But the point is, do what makes you feel better and look on your home as your sanctuary and then the next 12 weeks won’t feel so bad!
I do get what you’re saying about the future for those of us who are vulnerable but I guess for now we must focus on one day at a time and break this pandemic into bite size chunks that we can process and manage! x

seems to be the same then ! Our hospital and GPs put out notices on SM to let people know services were running as normal ..any unusual symptoms are not to be put off and for some reason there has been a big drop in heart and sick children being seen ,they said do not put things off get seen ?

Yea I think if someone was already under cancer treatment then it continues. But if it was only just about to start, then it's been "postponed" and you're left to die I guess. It's Lincoln where my Father in Law's bowel cancer treatment has been abandoned.

Speechless at what I‘ve just read on a local fb page what the duck is wrong with people?

Cant work out if he got out the car and was stabbed or if he had already been stabbed but it sounds like the former to me? It’s nauseating hearing about stuff like this with everyone else going on. You kinda forget that other crappy things in the world still exist along side covid.

Crime rate is soaring I believe

God can you even imagine what the numbers would be without lockdown 😳
250,000 Which was the predicted amount of we'd gone with the herd immunity approach.... 😳

Also, I thought the lockdown was to 1) protect the NHS and stop the everyone getting ill at the same time and 2) to stop the spread too (which lots of posters have disagreed with.

If we're not mixing with others, the virus can't spread and will 'die off'.... Yes it will.probably come back in the winter so I expect another lock down then.

Personally I'd rather we all hunk down at home for a longer lockdown not stuck at home but 'safe' at home than risk catching covid.... I am high risk though so I'm bound to say this... Nothing is worth more than human life including the economy...

I really feel for those with no gardens and those who's mental health will suffer (probably most of us) but I'd rather than than catching deadly covid

This is what i don't get. They are saying numbers are getting better. Yet GPs have closed their doors and these huge Nightingale units are all but empty. Medical staff are doing tiktoks all over the damn place. I'm pretty sure all these doctors and specialists from other departments can't all be working on Covid wards as the numbers are too low. So help non Covid patients ffs.

So sorry about your father in law too, that is absolutely awful.
I totally agree with everything you say bar 1.. I think front line workers should be aloud to TikTok and anything else that lets them get a release from the things their experiencing ..we seem to forget these are people too just trying to do the best they can in a crappy situation, and not some sort of robots devoid of emotions..

I heard the opposite.... hold on
Yep (almost )

Well with shops shut or enforcing tedious queues to get in, there's bound to be less shoplifting reported.
With pubs shut there's bound to be fewer fights or drunken assaults on kebab shop workers/customers.

Knock those two crime types out then not surprising that total crime counts are down.

Unfortunately there's still plenty of other street crime, burglaries, drugs stuff going on :(
Someone that's prepared to stab someone else isn't now sitting quietly at home just because Boris and the Queen told him to.

sure they are .... but if “your mum” graffiti and reckless littering is on the rise while violent muggings and car theft is down, can we really say crime is soaring? 😏
Might be where I am ...and someone's just posted a stabbing at a hospital .not to mention all the domestic violence and sexual abuse that's on the up ...so yeh ! crime is on the up IMO ..Oh and the domestic murders that have been reported too ..and we're only a few weeks in 🤷‍♀️

I’d be willing to bet burglaries are actually well down. I feel like I don’t even need to explain the reason for that one.
Yes someone capable of stabbing someone is unlikely to care about social distancing or the queens speech. But most crimes aren’t committed just for the sake of it, but for some other end. Usually money. Pickpocketing opportunities are virtually non existent at the moment.
Don’t make out like it’s just shoplifting and street fights that are down. It’s always going to be far nicer to hear that serious assault and robbery are too.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for domestic violence, from early on many flagged that as a concern and I saw some pretty upsetting stats yesterday.
