I’ve had proper flu. Five days of my life I don’t remember other than a few flashes of waking up either freezing cold or sweating buckets, hurting all over, and raging headaches. I spent two weeks in bed. Lost weight, ended up with bronchitis afterwards. There were days when I literally remember just waking to take meds then falling asleep again and my family had to wake me to make me take fluids and some toast. Apparently I raved a bit and wasn’t coherent. Took me about three months to feel normal (after the bronchitis cough went) and it was awful. We’ve had been vaccinated but still caught covid and it’s not been anything like that. It’s been not fun, but I’ve got up every day, and managed. With the flu I don’t even remember going to the loo some days I was so ill.

It's just the worst thing ever isn't it, thank god you rarely catch it!
I know some people have been very ill with covid, but the people I've known who have had it, vaccinated or not, have all been able to text, joke, work from home in some cases, care for family members and even come on tattle. No way can you do any of that with flu!
Even the people the media have spoken to in hospital have all been sat up talking!
I'm not downplaying covid at all and I've been told you feel absolutely awful, but there does seem a massive difference between flu and covid

Is it possible to get flu mild, the same as some people get these virus mild?
Surely vaccinated people fight it off as soon as they become infected . Maybe that is what's meant .

Are any of you feeling anxious about the virus or are you relaxed about catching it? I was listening on the radio today and a virus expert was mentioning how the majority of the country will eventually catch it. Not an ideal prospect, but what can we do.
Not really, I was at the start of the pandemic. I'm convinced I've already had it .

I do worry about catching viruses in general and do take preventative measures.

Sounds rough. I've had bad colds, and they aren't something I'd want to go through again, so having the flu as bad as you say sounds like a near death experience haha, errgghh.

Not anxious about catching anything now. I've had all my vaccinations, I've been living like it's 2019 since the restrictions lifted in July. Been to festivals, about 7 or 8 gigs, 4 holidays abroad, 2 weddings (including my own), had three house parties, go the pub and out to eat once a week or so. I'm not anxious about catching the flu or other seasonal illnesses that can be horrific, so this is in the same box now. And I'm one of those who went out in a full on respirator at the start of this to do my food shop!

I had the flu for 3 weeks back at the start of 2018 and I spent most of that week asleep on the couch in the living room, waking up only to have some Lucozade and a square of Galaxy chocolate as that's all I was able to stomach. I remember the day it hit me and being absolutely bursting for a wee but physically couldn't move from the bed to go. Lay there for 9 hours on and off sleep until my husband came home from work to carry me to the bathroom and back. All of my skin hurt to touch, even just thinking was a draining activity

How many per year is the question

I've always been pro vaccination and pro testing but seeing how you are hounded by Trace and Trace if a member of your household tests positive would make me think twice about testing again. Member of my household tested positive and whilst on the phone to trace and trace had another department of trace and trace trying to reach them at the sametime to ask the same set of questions. Told that we could be prosecuted if the positive person didn't isolate (they had no intention to break the rules) but the attitude of T&T was threatened. Couldn't get a clear answer on when isolation would end - from date of symptoms, date of positive LFD, date of PCR test or date you received results of PCR.

Lots of confusion about what to do about school. Children didn't test positive but did the responsible thing in advising the school that a member of the household had tested positive, first on LFD and next day PCR. School confused as legally children could still go to school but they already had cases within the school so asked if children could stay home for a few days even with negative PCRs.

Honestly, we would have been better off ignoring the symptoms and putting it down to just a winter cough than all the grief being responsible and testing and reporting it brought.

Track and trace have given my daughter the 12th November as her final day of isolation. Her symptoms started Tuesday 2nd even though we weren't aware they were covid symptoms and thought she just had the sniffles. They count the 10 days from the day of symptoms started or the day of test if no symptoms. I've emailed her school with all the official texts and emails from track and trace with the 12th November as her last date but they're refusing to take her back until the 18th as that's 10 full days from her test! How are they able to ignore the legal guidance from track and trace?

They can ignore it because they can have their own policy. My daughters dance class has said despite the government guidelines saying if there’s a positive case at home the rest can still go out if they’re negative, the dance school policy is that if anyone at home is positive then don’t send child to dance!

Me and my 2 kids tested positive on lfts yesterday and went for pcr. Results this morning positive.
I’m amazed at the lfts. Yesterday my line was barely noticeable I would’ve prob thrown it in the bin, today it’s almost as dark as the top one. 😯
Feeling ok, achy, tickly cough and sneezing.
What an agg track and trace is why they can’t link us all as family. Literally been on call all day to them.

We use a lot of agencey staff to fill gaps in staffing (nhs) If they need to be jabbed as well numbers are going to take a hit.
It’s everyone in a public facing role…Swan has addressed it in his statement they already know it’s a no brainer people will walk, they already have ! I wouldn’t like to imagine the impact on the English system if that happens,it may be the last nail in the coffin of the NHS but I think they know that and are happy to take it that step further towards privatisation.
