Bridgerton

Watching Queen Charlotte, I have never seen anything else Bridgerton, is the actual show worth watching? I'm enjoying this.

I think you would enjoy Bridgerton itself (two series) but I think we’ve seen the best of it now. I don’t have any interest in the remaining characters to get their stories especially the one that’s due in series 3!

I've started watching it an I'm glad there is a notice at the start on the historical aspects

I'm struggling to find the lead actress likeable, in Bridgerton the queen is a brilliant character, sharp but their is also warmth and humour there.

I'm also a bit confused about the treatment of race in this world. On the one hand we are told its a fantasy colour blind type situation. But here the queen's race is mentioned as an issue, then in bridgerton no one mentions other aristocrats of different races and in season one Marinas story should have had added layers on if that's an issue in that world.

I presume nothing is really mentioned as it's been quite a long time from Queen Charlotte to bridgerton. So it doesn't get mentioned as its more become the norm after having Charlotte as queen for years

Yeah that's where I figure they are going with it, just feels like they've watered down the issue where as I think they'd have been better to not have it at all. Just feels like its now something they pick and choose to mention. I swear there was something else in bridgerton I noticed at the time but forget what, it's been a while since I saw it.

In season one, Lady Danbury says Charlotte and George's marriage was the reason for their elevation or something along those lines to Simon. I remember being a bit put off at the time because I just assumed they were going for race blind casting in the style of Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney Houston and I don't really trust Bridgerton to handle racial issues with any kind of nuance lol.

I'd have honestly preferred that they just never mentioned it and it was just race blind but I'm sure some people would complain, so I'm not sure they could have won either way.

+1, I assumed that the timespan between Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton would explain the transition. Also, it often came across that whatever the queen or king deemed normal had to be accepted by the public as normal. So while it was "okay" to comment on Charlotte's skin before her marriage, it wasn't anymore after (of course it's not okay, I mean just in the context of the social rules of the show).

I like the older Charlotte much more than the young version, but I can see how she would grow into her older version. Neither of them are very likeable, tbh, but the older Charlotte is pretty hilarious and over the top with her demands, etc. Given that whatever she said was the gospel, I can see how she would morph into this impatient and sharp-tongued queen, especially with Lady Danbury on her side. Lady Danbury is my fave in both shows, especially the older Lady Danbury.

Same. I have so little interest in Pen and Colin, or the next installment of Eloise being Not Like Other Girls. They took up so much time in Anthony's season that I just don't see myself tuning immediately on release day. I hope there'll be at least a few Kanthony scenes that someone will upload somewhere :D

Colin and Pen are so boring. Their story should have just been a side story in Anthony’s series and for them to get their HEA that way!

I have no interest in Eloise. When I was reading the books I was really looking forward to her book but it was such a let down. But in the series her character is so annoying.

I think they should give up now or do another Kanthony series!

Sorry if it's already been said but in Queen Charlotte much is made of how it's the 'Great Experiment'. So I assume by the time of Bridgerton, it's all bedded in a bit. At the start, however, not everyone is too pleased about this experiment.

I was honestly so confused by the racial relations in Queen Charlotte, and I feel it was awkwardly shoehorned in during the show. Maybe it's also because I am German, but the idea that a black girl would be royalty in 18th century Germany is so absurd, unless you actually just do colour/race blind casting. Germany didn't have colonies at the time, I believe (we started later and weren't very successful), so how would that family have settled in Germany and become wealthy and influential enough to be married to British royalty?!

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL for casting POCs in historical romance, it is a fantasy after all. But, I just would have preferred them to never even address it and just do a "Brandy in Cinderella" approach. This would also mean we could see other ethnicities throughout the show's run, e.g. maybe a South East Asian or South Pacific lead at some point. Now, every time someone isn't white they need this complicated backstory to justify them being a part of the ton. It just fully breaks immersion for me.

I honestly didn't like Queen Charlotte at all. The fact that it was so short and they basically had one episode that just repeated the plot from another POV was infuriating to me. I also personally wanted something more fluffy vs. constant torture and heartbreak. My life is tit, I want to escape, not be sad. But gosh, the leads were all stunning! I loved young Charlotte, her hair alone made me gasp every time, what a beauty!
