Thinking about the October changes to BBC local radio when much of the output will be shared England-wide, the current 5am to 6am slot - early breakfast with Jason Rosam which goes out from London to all England - is almost preview of the new set up. The ident is 'across England', 'BBC local radio', 'with all the music you love' I wonder if that will be used going forward or if it will be all new.
I think Jason does a fantastic job, he often mentions the various local presenters, which the listeners appreciate, as well as having lots of general knowledge about the whole country, and a warm rapport with many regular the callers. He plays a best-of local radio from a different station every morning, and apparently visited Radio Leicester yesterday. Ironically Jason said this morning that listener numbers for most BBC local radio stations are up in the Rajars. Jason is most definitely a passionate advocate for local radio, a Tattler on another thread said she believes he is a director or trustee of a smaller, charity-based local radio station.
I don't know Becky Want but I will give her late show a try on the weeknights from October. I wonder if she'll have an inclusive nationwide approach, I do hope so. Not so for Jo Good, who will be doing the Friday and Saturday night lates across England, she's already told her London listeners that they needn't worry, her show won't be very different. I can't imagine self-centred, central London-centric Jo Good being bothered to make many concessions to engage with the rest of the country. I know I'll not be listening if Becky Want's show is 90% Mancy-mancy, just as imagine that the many listeners outside London won't appreciate having Jo Good's narc-fest show dumped on their local airwaves.
