Jo Good on BBC Radio London continues to use the BBC airwaves to make it all about her, her mates or one of her many non-BBC paymasters.

Her opening monologue on last night's show was all about Marlyebone, the shops, the restaurants, the pubs. This might seem to be a simple chat about her manor - however Marylebone Village Limited has employed her to film interviews to promote the businesses on their Howard de Walden estate.

Then a supposedly innocent mention of a piano being played in the local pub prompts her to ask the listeners: Is there anywhere near you where you can hear a piano and have a singalong? There are no calls on the subject until, miraculously, someone phones in. Do we think it's a coincidence that it turns out that the caller is a friend of hers? Jo Good sounds surprised to hear who it is, they then go on about their new restaurant in central London, saying they are getting a piano next week so you can come for a sing-song. She lets them name check the restaurant and gives the address and opening hours. This has all the hallmarks of an advertisment on the BBC.

She also continues to direct BBC listeners to her Youtube channel - which is full of the adverts she films for beauty products and fashion companies. For example, she has just come back from a holiday to Mallorca and as soon as she was back on air she kept telling listeners they could see her holiday on her Youtube channel, giving her@ middleagedminx handle. However, anyone who watches will also be subjected to her advertising a skincare brand with which she has a commercial agreement.

New to this thread so sorry if it's already been discussed but is anyone completely grossed out by Gary Davies? I cringe every time he's on the radio 🤢

I rarely listen to Radio 2 these days - in part owing to them bringing in annoying people like Richie Anderson - but it would have tipped me over the edge if I’d had to hear him bang on about this.

When I left university, an honorary degree meant something, and they were only handed out to people like esteemed authors, film directors, etc. Seems any Tom, Richie or Harry can pick one up these days 🙁

I thought the NUJ strike affecting local radio was for 24 hours from 11am yesterday. BBC Radio London is still playing the fill-in music.

I really like ooh Gary Davies but then I'm of the age when I remember him coming onto the scene on Radio 1 and TOTPs. I've always had a soft spot for him.
Same here. That reminded me I once had a Radio 1 calendar from that era with him in it. Can't really remember who else was in it - I think Steve Wright, Bruno Brooks, Peter Powell, Simon Bates. Oh and DLT

Thanks to Tattlers on another thread for this news and link from last night:

Jo Good is going to need a very strong producer to stop her using her national BBC radio platform to promote her monetised social media channels and constant name checking of the companies she has commercial deals with. She's been getting away with it on local radio but can it continue under a national gaze?

I'd noticed her bitter comments towards the BBC had suddenly stopped, before then it was constant pass-agg digs on air and on her vlog about the awful ageist BBC making her sick and tired, presumably she changed tack to save her arse. She likes to think of herself as a renegade and a rebel so I wonder if she'll stand against the BBC to show support for colleagues who don't come out of it as well as she has.

I wonder what's in store for Robert Elms?

Jo Good has announced her new nationally-broadcast BBC radio late show, with an incredibly smug thumbnail photo and title on her YouTube channel.

The 'GREAT NEWS' she trumpets is great only for her. In one fell swoop HER new national show will displace many of her former colleagues, many had done the late show on their local stations for many years.

Obviously it is not Jo's fault as it's a result of the wider changes to BBC local radio but it is typically narcy and gloaty to announce it in this way. Not even a brief acknowledgement of those whose jobs weren't spared.

A YouTube commenter mentioned that they will miss the outgoing presenter in their area and I am sure they won't be the only listener to feel that way. Jo will have a very hard time winning over a national audience, she does not have a warm demeanour and is not interested in anywhere or anyone beyond specific parts of London and Sussex so will need to work hard to feign interest.

I'm quite surprised it's Jo on this new late shift, particularly given how much she's complained about the late nights. There must be numerous other local presenters who would have been suitable for the role. Jo is also very 'London' and is going to have to have a much more generic national show.

Given the general current media climate, I'm also surprised the BBC has chosen a London presenter for this. Although I suppose it was never going to be anyone from smaller parts of the East Midlands, or anywhere 'not on the map' or not urban.

I agree. I’m not sure how well she will go down nation wide. She doesn’t have the type of appeal that’s required. Also, this could look as though the BBC is favouring the South / South East yet again, when they had an opportunity to go in a different direction.
