Google it. Being gay in the 80s was horrific in this country for numerous reasons. I lost my best friend in 1991 to AIDS, and the stigma and abuse he received still make me weep. I suffered from abuse once for holding his hand in public.


I remember how bad it was, even as a 8 year old (1987) I went to a relatives house on my 8th birthday and there was a street in their road where someone had spray painted "AIDS" on their neighbours front door and also sprayed a picture of a hangman's noose and a knife. I have never forgotten that image and after that it was like you never heard about anything else after I saw that. People with AIDS were evil disgusting bad people, and that was my first real experience of learning what hate was and how evil people were with the things they said about it, as if you went near someone with AIDS you would catch it and die, the abuse that was handed out. Persecuted.

Im so sorry your poor friend went through that (and you as well). There are so many reason I hate this world, and judgement and persecution of people with "taboo" illnesses is one of them. One of the many reasons I think I feel so strongly about it was because it was the first time I'd ever realised what shock at other peoples ill informed opinions and beliefs, and what hate was...and at such a young age.

no one is demanding he be dragged to court and jailed for the rest of his life.

but he lied and exploited a vulnerable person and that is *absolutely* grounds for him loosing a career in the public eye.

IMO, people who abuse their positions of trust/power in the public eye should absolutely be held to a high standard. That doesn’t meant I think they should necessarily be imprisoned.
 
As someone who has suffered with serious MH and continues to struggle daily - my life revolves around keeping things as they are, on a even keel, to avoid an episode. Avoid situations that could cause heightened emotion or anxiety or disturb/unbalance the status quo.

It limits what I do but it's a small price to pay. Tattle for me is like keeping connected to what's happening in the wider world because I have to avoid real life stress.

I struggle to understand why he would get himself into these situations, especially as he is in the public eye and has self awareness of his mental health issues.

I've been following this since Saturday and it all comes out when I'm driving for 2 hours!!!!

Interesting about the mental health position being shared. I'm sorry he's suffering with mental illness so badly he's been hospitalised, however I'm also of the point of view that you reap what you sow. He must have known this would come out eventually as it sounds he wasn't particularly selective about how many people he messaged.

On the other hand, as the young person has said they went to The Sun before the story ran to stop it and as 2 police forces have said there is no case to pursue … that could well be his lawyers fee right there.

Edwards has been named by his wife Vicky Flind in a statement issued on his behalf. The BBC has also reported he was facing "yet more allegations of inappropriate behaviour" - this time towards his colleagues at the corporation.

Yes he's so mentally ill but manages to book the services of a solicitor. From some people on tattle are describing I'd be expecting him to be presenting as catatonic not booking legal advice.

This is the crux of it for me. It's none of our businesses. If it was a criminal act, that's the police's job to deal with. If he needs to lose his job, that's on the BBC. Noone in the public needs to know about any of this, his name should never have gotten out there. It is indeed possible for people to face the consequences of their actions without needing public vitriol on a life ruining scale.
