Not the important thing, I know, but I thought it was nasty in that FB post to describe Jessica Gunning as "ugly"; she's been made dowdy for the role and she can do that frowny downturned mouth thing because she's an excellent actress but she isn't ugly at all.

It's surely better to say something like "inspired by a true story" if you don't want people to take it all as fact and accept it's been at least partly fictionalised. Most first novels or equivalent are somewhat autobiographical.

This pissed me off too! How rude is she? I hated that she called Jessica ugly.

All of this, with how similar she is, has made me genuinely wonder if this is some sort of weird social experiment cooked up by Richard on stalking and witch hunts. It seems way too bleeping convenient that a show about stalkers has turned a large percentage of Baby Reindeer viewership into stalkers and harassers themselves.

Well no, the OP asked why she is bothered if it’s not her. That makes no sense. It’s obvious that anyone would be ‘bothered’ by being labelled a deranged stalker, even if they knew it wasn’t them.
I know what the OP asked. I just don't interpret it the same way you do.

Personally I think Jessica Gunning is rather beautiful - such an expressive face (especially her eyes) and a cracking actress!
She's a gifted actress. I'd never seen her in anything before.

Real Martha is not a nice person she's vile but RG never reported her to the police not out of sympathy for a mentally ill woman but so he could capitalise on her oddity and make material from the encounters. He found her intriguing if you really felt threatened you would contact the police. The documentary about Matty Hardy shows how terrified the woman were he literally caused misery.

Such an unfair comment to make...

I’m afraid I still don’t feel any sympathy for her. She could have deleted her account if she didn’t want to be recognised. She’s obviously a deeply disturbed and unpleasant individual. How ironic that it’s her being stalked now! Still think she likes the attention though! Who knows what RG’s motives were but he’s perfectly within his rights to make the series and not do a great job in conceal her identity! Serves her right imo!

I agree with this but also think the general public needs to learn restraint. It’s becoming all too “pot meet kettle”. It’s one thing to have a nosey on a profile set to public but the people posting to her/DMing her are just as bad. Literally poking the bear.

I think people sending her death threats etc is ridiculous and shows just how unhinged some people are! That’s going way too far!

Thing is she clearly doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong, she doesn’t even think she is Martha so why would she delete her account. I’m not sure she has the mental capacity to distinguish that “Martha” is not a real person, but a depiction of someone that already exists - herself.

I don’t know, he is absolutely allowed to share his story but this ‘you did this to me so I’m going to do this to you’ doesn’t make a right. I do understand to an extent making it obvious it’s her in the hopes she’d see and realise the trauma he caused her, but I do firmly think it will end up causing more harm than good. RG himself has said he empathises with her, didn’t report her because he didn’t want someone with mental health issues to be incarcerated and he felt sorry for her. Yet everyone is ignoring that and going after her. This series vs RGs word is so contradictory.

I do find it interesting how much more focused on “Martha” he and everyone is rather than his groomer/rapist.

The thing is, victims of abuse who come forward publicly need to have a perfect character and people need to able to see that they’re still suffering. Richard’s surely done things that make people wonder about his character. That in turn leads to questioning his version of events and that will eventually lead to some people believing that he either wasn’t abused or did something to deserve it or that it wasn’t that bad. It’s a mess and the initial message of the show is lost now. And it’s one of the main reasons victims of any kind of abuse rarely come forward. Because they know that THEIR character will be questioned and judged. It’s interesting because in the show even Richard wonders why he reported Martha and not his rapist.
