So the race is supposed to last 10 DAYS! Bets on what day he’ll quit? I’m going with day 2 because he’s never actually been camping in his life and he’ll hate it and blame his back or reflux on his sleep (not that he was too out of shape, untrained, never camped, etc.) and wuss out and go home never to mention kayaking again.

One thing amongst many things that really irritates me about AS Deyes is that wood (as in woodland - not a piece of wood) he bought. Never mentioned again. If I bought a wood I'd be over there all the time especially in the Spring noticing the flowers and birds. Tbf (which I hate) maybe he has handed it over to someone responsible to maintain it. Doubtful. Has poor bloody Nala even seen it?

It's baffling. And, as always, something that might actually make for interesting content but he ignores it. Rewilding a wood, observing how it develops, etc etc - but nope. Let's film our friends bouncing on a trampoline instead  😄

Some kids shouldn’t be allowed on the internet.

Just looked on the charity page and it looks like it’s Alfie, Steve, funforlouis and Alfie’s mate Dave. Along with two other people who I think must be the photographer/ the professional who will help maybe?

Starts tmrw morning. And. I. Cannot. Wait.

Anyone passing the Thames who sees him please get pics

Until a day or two ago I didn't even know which charity they were kayaking for, from what I've seen none of them have been particularly vocal in identifying the charity and raising awareness and money, which is the whole idea of a charity event.

Right? Aren't they doing a sponsorship or something? Otherwise in what way is this for "charity"? Will Alfie be donating a few thousand, you reckon?! Might have to buy one less pizza oven this summer.

It was an investment right? So he'll just leave it until it's worth more and sell it off to be flattened and have houses built on it

I'm in Oxford for the weekend, he'll probably ruin the atmosphere and go right on by blinding people with the dentures.

I think people are overestimating how difficult it will be to complete. If it's just going from where the Thames is navigable to the barrier it's a nice leisurely row and not challenging at all. I've known people retired that do it in a week. Or is he going across the channel?

The most liked comment under his "should we make the exclusive t-shirts not exclusive" is a big fat no

Agreed - he must be doing a short segment and not the full thing. Though others have said that he's said in vlogs he was actually doing the channel too - I just don't believe that. I reckon he'll be in the water for 1 or 2 hours tops to give some PR to the charity (they've been mentioning internet star Alfie Deyes in their press releases). As long as he's going with the flow of the river he'll be fine.

He’s said
Im kayaking from the source of the river thames to the sea over 9 days with @regenerateuk

He definite mentioned in a vlog that he was then doing the channel too

I didn't mean that I don't believe the people who reported that by the way, just that I don't believe he is going to do a 9 day kayak and cross the busiest shipping route on earth ha.

I hope someone makes a nice video of him saying he's going to do it, followed by the footage of whatever he actually achieves, and then the inevitable excuses that follow 😄

He probably thinks he's doing the channel, I don't doubt that  Isn't from what I can see:

Regenerate are Kayaking from the Source of the River Thames all the way to the Sea and then cycling from London to the Pyrenees Mountains.

On the 24th of May of group of us will be Kayaking the length of the River Thames. Starting at Cricklade, we will kayak over 215 miles through Reading, Oxford, Windsor, Putney, and Westminster, ending at Southend pier. This gruelling journey will take ten days of hard kayaking to travel from the source of the Thames to the North Sea and we will be camping out each night along the banks of the river.

A group of people rowing 20 miles a day downstream and camping during the warm end of May/ start of June isn't anything to write home about.

So a moderately experienced Kayaker will travel around 3 knots an hour, 3.5 miles, that's basically 6 hours a day kayaking. And it's for charity- other than Alfie's inevitable failure I don't think there's a need to poopoo the whole thing.

what charity are they actually raising money for?Ive literally seen nothing about this and like others have said surely that’s the point of the whole trip. And sometimes raising awareness is just as good as raising money

It's more of a novice bordering on intermediate thing, not the expert level that crossing the channel would be.

I'm sure he'll act as if its the same as circumventing the earth.
