Your tips on how to look more Groomed, Glamorous or Polished #13

I am interested in using Tretinoin, how do you know which one to start with? Do I need a prescription buy from the site? Sorry to have so many questions but despite reading bits in the internet I still don’t have a clue, thanks for s as my advice
Start with the lowest strength which is I think 0.025%. Don’t be tempted to try anything stronger even though that sounds like a tiny number. Start off with like 1-2 times a week, at night time, on dry skin. Don’t use any acids or other actives on a tretinoin night. Literally use a pea sized amount. I tap teeny tiny amounts from the pea sized blob, like little dots on my face and then rub it in from there. Avoid the eyes, lips and crevices around the nose. Give it time to dry/sink in, then top with a good moisturiser. Wear spf on your face every day. You can build up your usage once your skin gets used to it and if you have no effects. Your skin can purge at first or get a bit peely. You can also ‘sandwich’ your tretinoin by applying moisturiser first, then the pea sized amount of tret, then more moisturiser. That can help if your skin is really sensitive.

Sounds like a faff but it cut down my skincare routine to hardly anything at all when I was using it (I stopped for a holiday under a raging 40 degree sun and didn’t restart because I’m trying to get pregnant at the moment and vitamin A, which is what tret is, is a no no) and my skin looked a lot better for using it. Fresher and a bit glowier, but not glass skin glowy if that makes any sense.

You might like to try retinol or retinal first which is a more diluted version of tret. I’ve never tried retinal but I have tried The Ordinary’s retinol in squalane and I liked it. Again, start with the lowest number and build your way up.
It’s not a prescription only medication in quite a lot of other countries so no prescription will be needed for that site I don’t suppose! (I bought mine on a previous holiday, but didn’t use it till I got back!)

Excellent advice.

Brilliant post, thanks for the info. I'm really intrigued to know your routine with tret? I'm guilty of buying too many things so love the idea of using something useful and keeping it simple

I’m off tret at the moment but I got to a point where I was using it every other night, first I’d spritz with some rose water and pat on that snail mucin stuff from COSRX. Once that had fully soaked in and dried I’d put the tret on and let it fully sink in and dry, then I would either top with Weleda skin food light or LRP Cicaplast Baume.
Very occasionally I would mix some niacinamide into the snail mucin because niacinamide and tret supposedly go well together! On non-tret days I would add in something if I needed it, maybe salicylic acid or tranexamic acid or something similar. Otherwise my night routine would be the same just without tret.

My day routine is rose water, snail mucin, then the Superdrug simply pure hydrating serum to which I mix one drop of The Ordinary’s Reservatol & Ferrulic Acid and one drop of Ascorbyl Glucoside. Then SPF. I’ll add a day moisturiser if I need one but I don’t need one.

My skin is rubbish at the moment, but it’s because of my PCOS and not using tret, I believe. My skin is congested and oily at the t zone, spot prone but also prone to random dryness. Lucky me!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a primer to suit the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin foundation please?

I am mid 30s with slight dry skin around my chin area due to probably Retinal use.

Thank you so much. Hope your issues resolve for you soon ❤️

I’ve recently discovered Phlur Vanilla Skin and Caramel Skin body mists and oh my, I am in love with both!! The only issue is that they don’t seem to be lasting long (the bottle, not the smell). Can anyone recommend any lovely vanilla or caramel perfumes? They do the vanilla skin in a perfume but it’s £99, I love it but would like to see if there’s a cheaper alternative before I splurge on it!

This is probably not the right thread (send me in the direction of a more appropriate one if you know of one!) but I want to upgrade my iron to a steam generator one and I’m wondering if anyone recommends a particular one? Every review website I’ve looked at of course says a £500 Philips one is the best but…. that feels like a mahooosive leap! I mostly iron cotton, linen and viscose items. I’m a freak who irons her bedsheets and of course I was dumb enough to get a superking bed so it’s a bloody marathon to do them. Any thoughts?

This is the home thread version of this one

That perfume is next on my list to try! Ariana grande mod vanilla or her new one vanilla suede are both nice as is kayali vanilla 28

I’ve been looking for a body spray like this. Went into Lush the other day, as so many of their products seem to have gone viral on social media, but none of them appealed to my delicate shnozz. Must have a sniff of this brand next time I’m in Space NK.
