William and Kate #8

It is bizarre, the Times podcast also said that she is not cancer free, saying it is a long process and that she will only take on light duties. But then they play a part of the video in which she says she will focus on remaining cancer free? Isn't this a contradiction?
I think I'd believe her words from her own mouth rather than words spoken in a podcast.

It was from one of the Royal reporters, but apparently Prince William said today (to Royal Fans whilst on an engagement) that it is good news but still a long way to go. I am confused 🙈
I imagine it’s the 5 year period where you still monitored and not given the all clear until this period lapses. Getting to 5 years cancer free is the goal and reduces your chances of relapsing.

So what? I am fundamentally opposed to the royal family as an institution so couldn’t care less about that. She is no better or more worthy a person than anyone else, yet she receives the best of everything, including the best cancer care, probably in the world. I think it’s self indulgent, producing this video. The announcement could have been made in a much less happy clappy self centred way. What annoys me most is that there are cancer patients who will be waiting for treatment, getting less good care than she did, and having to do everything else in their lives - work, look after kids. It seems insane to me that people are so overjoyed that she has ‘triumphed’ over cancer when she had it way easier than pretty much anyone else.

As a terminal cancer patient who received appalling care leading to delayed diagnosis, I wish Kate nothing but the best.
Let me tell you, if I had the opportunity to receive the best care in the world then damn right I would have taken it.

This is a young mother who has been through tit and forced to out her very personal medical problems to the world because of the disgusting conspiracy theories that were going around.

Fair enough if you didn't like the video but to say it's "insane" that people are happy she triumphed over cancer is disgusting.
I found her message to be positive, real (because cancer and treatment is hard and changes our perspective on life) and comforting.
Sadly my outcome won't be as positive but I think it's wonderful that she's on the road to recovery.

No it’s the opposite, I’m not sad, I fully don’t give a f**k. If you want to feel sad watch a Ken Loach film, I watched I Daniel Blake the other day and was moved to put sanitary towels in the food bank collection box at tescos, if you’ve seen the film you’ll understand. That’s where my compassion needs to be and is being spent.
Good for you but did you know you can have compassion for more than one thing or one person at a time?

I was a bit surprised how "romantic" the video was, the butterfly, leaning against the tree, the whole vibe.
She usually presents herself more down to earth and sporty, instead of the butterfly I would have expected her to harvest berries or pick apples or flowers.

But maybe she is more cheesy than I thought she was, it is all just my perception anyway.

It could just be her whole perspective on life has changed.
I know mine has.
I sometimes feel like I'm a completely different person since my diagnosis.

Fab, thanks for the tip, I still dont think I’m going to feel any for the royals though.
I’m sorry for what you’ve been through and I hope you’re well now. Some might not wish Catherine ill but perceive that this exemplifies the disparities in this country. Not Catherine’s personal fault of course but more could be done with the NHS and benefits for those unable to work while undergoing treatment.

I’m bewildered as to what focusing on remaining cancer free entails though? How does one focus on remaining cancer free?

One can focus on diet, lifestyle, looking for warning signs etc. It's not hard to work out what she means
I've never heard of diet and lifestyle preventing a relapse of cancer, first diagnosis possibly but not relapse. Warning signs of what? That the cancer has retuned and she's no longer cancer free?

Oh I absolutely agree with you regarding the NHS, although to be fair most people do get good treatment when it comes to cancer.
It's just a shame not all of us do.
Still if I was in Kates position I would absolutely have taken the best treatment and care offered to
me.
Who wouldn't?

I expect her comment about remaining "cancer free" means regular scans and follow ups.
Even when treatment ends it's not always the end of the cancer journey unfortunately.

I think she’s been more ill than was let on. Nine months seems a long time for mopping up.
She also seems to be saying that she’s not out of the woods yet.
I wish her well. As I do anyone else dealing with this or watching a loved one go through it.
Cancer is a bugger. I get that money and privilege gets you better treatment but I can’t begrudge her dealing with this in the way she wants to, for herself and her family.
She had surgery in January, probably got the news end of January/beginning of February, starting chemo mid-February. Six months would take her to mid-August, then a few weeks to get over any side-effects from the last cycle. My adjuvant chemo was six cycles. It took about a year afterwards to feel 'normal'. You're still getting three or six monthly blood tests and scans while in remission for around five years - and both my surgeon and oncologist were sure that the cancer had been removed by my pre-chemo operation.

Most people would have taken the private healthcare but the point is the public shouldn’t be funding an anachronistic institution when the money they get could be better spent elsewhere. Scans and follow ups won’t help her remain cancer free, merely detect relapse.

That’s a very odd video, on the one hand it’s got a serious message to it, but then it’s filmed like an advert for a summer blockbuster that starts off with happy families and ends in tragedy.

Whilst it’s good for them that she’s come through this well so far, the picture they’re portraying is so removed from most people’s reality that it makes it seem as though all it takes to beat cancer and come out looking like perfection is to have a loving husband, kids and dog and spend lots of time frolicking outside.

I thought the media would lap it up in their usual sycophantic way but it seems to be the opposite has happened.

Personally I think another brief “bench” video would have been more appropriate and landed better than a three minute video of “look how lucky I am compared to you”

Like others have said I hope Kate ditches the Early Years schtick now and does something much more beneficial to do with cancer and the help that is so needed. I begrudge no one getting the care that everybody deserves but all patients and families deserve it.

People commenting on here that they feel nothing for the RF and couldn't care less yet taking the time and effort to comment and then double down, why did you click on the thread if you aren't interested?

I'm interested in Royals past and present plus I think Catherine is lovely which is why I read the thread. If I cared nothing either way I wouldn't bother.

cus I’ve commented before so I get notified about the thread lol 😂. In seriousness I’m interested but in things like, what do they actually contribute? Why in 2024 do so many people still support the institution/establishment? I guess for a lot it’s the pageantry and tradition. My interest doesn’t extend to sympathy but…
Re the video I think it’s actually a fairly standard way any family might spend a day in the summer holidays for example. A picnic, visiting grandparents, playing on the beach and in the sea, tree climbing. There were aspects that were just a bit too saccharine but I didn’t think they were ‘showing off’. Agree I personally would have preferred a sit down video from just Catherine but some may like the family day out style mini vlog.

To be fair this isn’t a “rave thread” (perhaps set one up if you’re interested) so all opinions are valid even if they differ to ours. I do find the lack of empathy toward others totally baffling tbh but sadly that’s just the way some people are. I try to avoid people like that in “real life” but I suppose on a gossip forum it’s to be expected.

Yeah, fair enough. People are all different. I did think the clip was a little twee and I wouldn't cry over it, having said that I haven't ever met one person who hasn't been affected by cancer in some way. I've lost three family members including a parent and favourite aunt so it feels kind of raw some days.
