William and Kate #8

I always thought he gave it to her because he loved his mother dearly and wanted her to be present.

I think it would have been better if he had taken another piece of Diana’s jewellery and had it made into a special ring for Kate. That way she had her own ring and he still had a part of Diana. The engagement ring should have been kept for Charlotte imo.

I think Harry actually owned the ring and gave it to Will. They've probably been like, Kate will love this, without thinking about the implications of the ring.

I love the Diana ring and would have been chuffed to have been given it but I don't think William thought it through well.
Kates jewellery choices have always been very simple, small easy to wear pieces. A stonking great sapphire cluster just isn't the style I would imagine she would choose.
Saying that, it's an iconic piece of jewellery and it would have been better given as a dress ring for her to wear when she chooses.
He hasn't ever commissioned a piece for her that we know of.
He could have commissioned a stunning engagement ring for her and used some of Diana's diamonds if he didn't want to pay for any himself. He could have used Diana's diamonds for a bracelet or earrings for her to compliment a new engagement ring for his wife to be.
I wonder why he didn't? I think the answer is that he never even gave it consideration. I have always felt that he doesn't really go out of his way for Kate. Charles is romantic with camilla and has had plenty of pieces commissioned for her

I really liked her original ring. It wasn’t Hollywood or glamorous enough for her though. You could tell he actually put thought into it, which was quite sweet considering how dumb he is..

I loved Meghan’s original ring. If I was to pick any “famous” ring, I’d pick that one. Wasn’t mad on what she got done after either. Meghan also got that gorgeous aquamarine ring. Big Blue would have been better as a cocktail ring for certain occasions.

I think the whole thing about Diana’s ring says a lot about William and Kate. That he just wasn’t bothered or considerate and that she just goes along with things for an easy life. Interesting if she did get a new ring and Big Blue has been retired - Kate finally getting a say in something?

I read after Diana died harry and William chose what they wanted of her things and harry chose the ring with the intention of one day proposing to the woman he wanted to marry with it. When it was looking like William was going to propose to Catherine he backtracked and gave it to William with the intention the future queen should have it as his mother never made it to be queen. Ironically it looks like it still won’t sit upon the hand of a queen. Perhaps Catherine should pop it in the post to Meghan as a peace offering!

I loved both Meghans original trilogy ring and Catherine/dianas sapphire one. If Catherine’s had that ring for 15 years I’m not sure why she suddenly wants it changed now.

BIB - Whst do you mean

Diana's ring really suited her. It looked fantastic on her finger. Charles didn't choose it for her, she picked it out from a tray of rings presented to her. She chose the one with the biggest stone! I agree that it should have either skipped a generation or be used as a fancy dress ring. It would have been better if William had given Kate a ring that showed some thought for her. Eugenie's husband gave her an unusual pink stone with a personal story attached. To me, that is a lot more romantic.

Even Philip commissioned the Edinburgh Wedding Bracelet for Elizabeth using the diamonds left over from his mother's tiara once the engagement ring was made. There's also another anniversary bracelet with diamonds, rubies and sapphires making up their two national flags and anchors that he commissioned.

Maybe her brush with death finally got them talking about it. They've no doubt done a lot of talking over the past few months and William had to face the fact that he could easily lose her to a recurrence.

I agree that the heritage of the ring is pretty awful from a public perspective but I can see it being different for William in terms of how he sees it. He remembered his mother wearing it and she chose it. Harry chose it originally I think to remember her by. I think they both saw it as a memory of her not of the marriage and that’s why he wanted Kate to have it.

Agree it was special to William as it was his mother’s and apparently Diana loved the ring. Catherine and William are still together so it seems to have brought them more luck than it did William’s parents.

I love it. It's just such a 1980s iconic piece of bling. I saw it up close when she was on a royal visit here shortly after their engagement and it is beautiful but it was too large for kates hand it didn't really suit her.
I bet Carol couldn't believe her luck when one of the most famous pieces of jewellery in the world landed on her daughters finger
