West End Gossip #3

Just on the train home from Hamilton at Vic Palace. It’s Been a couple of years since I’ve seen it live and I really enjoyed it again. Mr Flamingo got more out of it this time after seeing it on Disney with the subtitles on so he understands it a bit better now. Wasn’t expecting great things from Joel Montague after his turn at WEL a couple of years ago but he was pretty good today to be fair. Good voice and hammed it up just the right amount.

I feel like a one or two set pieces had been restaged slightly since my last time, but that’s good. Keeps it fresh.

Why is MJT doing a 180 on Mincemeat all of a sudden? He was always completely up them and now out of the blue he is saying that he's enjoyed it less and less over the last yr but he still keeps attending. Is he just hedging his audience bets for when it flops on Broadway?
I’ve only seen that one song they performed at the Oliviers last year. Couldn’t understand a word! Was so fast. A bit like some of the songs in Hamilton!

Ha, you must have been at the same performance we were. Me and my sister also had the issue that we couldn't understand what was going on a lot of the time, compounded by the fact that neither of us knew anything about the founding fathers beforehand (although might take your tip and find it on Disney if we can - I'm up for a second viewing).

Otherwise - some very talented performers, with standouts being Nathania Ong and Joel Montague (nailed the petulance and foppery very well in a humorous way like you said). There was also an insanely hard working band/music master (I was up in the Gods and there was a chap on a keyboard under the stage in a gap between the lights at the front performing most, if not all of the music, as well as cueing and keeping time for the cast on a little screen visible from the stage) who also deserves a mention!

another bit of tea …. MJ is now papering in the west end. Soon to be on its last legs. Not selling well at all.

Well there seems to have been no end of Michael Jackson related musicals running non-stop somewhere in the West End since he died. What makes this one any different, why do I need to see this one when I haven't bothered with the others? Their marketing is piss poor lazy, seemingly just largely reposting footage from the Broadway show rather than bothering to sell us specifically the UK version, and it never looks wow, just looks like a glorified karaoake or Stars In Their Eyes with a load of people dressed a bit like the original music videos. Not helped by the West End Live recording pans to the crowd and they all look bored out of their minds.

Stupid to have put it in the huge Prince Edward but then have a marketing budget as though it was in the Criterion.

A Leo Bloom has allegedly been seen kissing and holding hands with an Elphaba Thropp both of whom are meant to be married ….
i'm trying to track this down but I can't puzzle out as The Producers isnt currently playing.. surely not Broderick?
