Weight Loss and Healthy Living #13 Tattlers Transformation

Don’t lose hope, it’s just your body recalibrating and you will see a loss on the scales in no time. I was in a similar position over 3 weeks until the end of last week. Then suddenly I’m down a kilo in the last few days. It may be worth trying on clothes for a bit of encouragement as non-scale changes often come before seeing weight loss on the scale.

I found this article in weight plateaus really informative:
Thank you so much, I will have a read. I definitely feel like I have lost weight which is why I am so annoyed. I was up until 3am last night with my dad in a&e. I feel so tired and sluggish now.

My workouts are feeling harder to do yet it’s the same workout I’ve been doing for the past 4 weeks. Surely it’s supposed to get easier??!

Might be that subconsciously you’re getting bored of doing the same routines so they feel like a chore? Perhaps try switching the exercises you do for different ones?

I'm back from a 3 week holiday. This holiday was my motivation and I lost 31lb in 6 months for it. On holiday I didnt restrict myself in the slightest. I'm not really a drinker but I did enjoy a lot of cocktails. It was a very active holiday with loads of walking, kayaking and other watersports.

I'm up 5lb as of this morning. I know this might fluctuate over the next few days as I had a couple of long flights yesterday. I didnt expect to gain that much but it could be worse! I plan to get back to calorie counting on Monday.
My coaching programm went into this and supposedly, alcohol consumption completely stops fat loss. I don't remember the exact reason but it takes a few days to get back to normal. Just keep on counting and you'll be back to your usual in no time.

It's because alcohol is a toxin, your body focusses on clearing it out of your system and doesn't bother doing normal stuff like fat burning

Mm, not sure about that.

What's probably the answer is that alcohol is highly calorific and something like a Mojito will run you 300 calories, if you have 3 or 4 then that's your daily caloric intake in 4 drinks - and you'll eat on top of that.

Alcoholics tend to maintain their weight even when they're prioritising alcohol over food because of this. (Depends on what they choose to drink though)

That is going to be my new saying to myself. Never thought about it like that, I do ok food wise then have the rest of my cals in wine.
Honestly going teatotal was a great choice for me - I have never drunk that much but the odd beer here and there added up over time. Since alcohol doesn't mix with my meds I made the decision to stop drinking completely and it's been fantastic. It does help that a friend of mine has also stopped drinking completely so we're already two people out of our social group that don't drink so it's easier to resist those dumb questions why we don't. I think that's often the hardest part about giving up on alcoholic drinks - they nosy questions from other people, and then them trying to make you feel bad for it as well.

Yeah I kinda agree. There's a grain of truth in that as I believe body does prioritise getting rid of the alcohol which can reduce other metabolic processes like burning fat, but it's not like it completely stalls weight loss if you're in calorie deficit. It does impact weight loss negatively in other ways eg bad sleep quality, increased stress etc and alcohol itself is high in calories (7kcal per gram) plus whatever else is in the drink. But if you're in deficit then it's not like you're not going to lose weight if you're consistently in calorie deficit, even if you drink

Why do people care so much when someone’s not drinking? Nothing annoys me more! Especially being a younger girl, people just out right ask if I’m pregnant? No the real answer is I’m a manic depressive, I’ve been on a ‘self healing journey’ this year, gave up alcohol, stopped binge eating my feelings, counted calories, lost 3 stone… I now lie and say I’m drinking vodka, Diet Coke when it’s actually just a Diet Coke because it’s easier 😂

I drank heavily throughout the bulk of my weight loss, it definitely does not stop fat loss. I used to skip dinner on a Friday to have 4 diet coke and double vodkas. I do think if you drink it's harder to stay in control of your calories when you're getting drunk kebabs or hangover Maccy Ds but the alcohol itself isn't the issue

100% agree with this.

For me the problem with having a drink isn't the drink. Even after/with 1 drink I want something like crisps, then I think I want something sweet after and it can easily spiral.

If I have a heavy session then the next day I just want beige food.

That’s interesting because I used to drink quite a bit in my twenties and was slim all the way through. I stopped completely during Covid and turned 30 and the weight piled on once I stopped drinking, but then I just began eating more instead. I haven’t touched alcohol in 4 years and it was the best decision ever for me. I don’t really drink fizzy drinks either but if I go out and have a Coca Cola it’s enough to give me a buzz now and that’s enough for me. It must be the high sugar content

That’s inspiring, I tried to be on a similar journey, I stopped drinking but the binge eating is extremely difficult for me, I feel like I just replaced drinking with eating instead

I follow a few nutrition pages on insta and a couple of home workout ones on YT, just need to do the workouts! 😂

Does anyone have pages they follow that are useful/informative/motivational? I can't seem to get into the mindset of eating better and moving more, despite becoming increasingly fed up and frustrated with my size. What is wrong with me. 😫

Theyre slightly controversial but I love the tough love approach (so may not be up your alley) but Amanda Dobler and Minazalie are my fav on TikTok!

I feel like this is a safe place to rant about a recent encounter haha. So I am absolutely not preachy about food with people in my personal life but have definitely had a mindset shift on what I eat (and everyone can eat how they want to eat). My meals now (generally) contain protein, fats and carbs and if I eat out I choose at least a protein source and veg and have some sides (maybe hot chips or the like). Anyway, we have a team lunch next week and I was chatting to the girl who organised it and asked if it was buy your own or shared platters etc and she said it was shared and she picked the package that is simply arancini balls, party pies, sausage rolls and hot chips… I don’t know about anyone else but that isn’t lunch?! There was other package options like one had chicken, salad, flatbreads, hot chips and add ons like pizza but I’m literally cringing at the thought of going to a lunch where there isn’t even a source of protein?! I get it because I used to have a pretty poor diet (it’s how I became overweight) but now even though I eat 80/20, when I eat out I still have at least a protein source?! And if you were organising a team lunch you’d think it would be more “lunch like”?! I can’t not go either… but people always make comments like “you eat so healthy” but I literally just think I’m eating how I should be eating?! And my food is always delicious, I just don’t eat ultra processed food…

Ugh I get you with the proteins. At recent company events I actually went to the supermarket during my break to get some Tempeh to snack on because it was all just empty fast food for us vegans with the company- provided catering. I mean, it's nice that they actually have vegan options but it's all just empty carbs. I need some friggin protein.

Don't feel bad about being irked by it. But, maybe get yourself some protein bars or a protein shake you can sneak in the loo, or even just bring a Tupperware with some chicken breast? Do what you have to do to stay on track and work around those obstacles.

Yeah that’s so hard being vegan as you’re a bit more limited with options and I think catering just do whatever is easiest. It would be nice if a little more thought goes into it though!

Good ideas though, I might bring a protein bar and maybe some boiled eggs haha it should tide me over till I get home and is quick, easy and discreet to shove in my mouth 😂

I am also going away on a two week overseas trip next week so I fully understand I won’t always have “control” over food but I do make a point of having a protein source when eating out / away on a trip etc. Plus I am going to eat so much yummy food whilst I’m away I don’t want to load up on pies and sausage rolls haha.

I totally get that! I think many people have such awful diets it seems to general public like it's normal.

I still always laugh (and probably mentioned it on here) about the time when a colleague acted shocked I had a chicken sandwich for breakfast as it's lunch food. When I asked her what she had she said cookies 😂 I mean, does anything else says more about the state of people's diets in the UK where a chicken sandwich is considered to be a weird breakfast but cookies are fine? Lol

I also saw a video on Instagram the other day about a girl basically saying how there's no way anyone eats their five a day in the UK and that people probably eat like 3 or whatever bits of fruit and veg a week.
