Wagatha Christie #4 Rebekah Vardy vs Coleen Rooney

But why should Colleen have to be happy with happy with half her costs back! BV had an opportunity to prevent this from even going to court in the first place

She doesn't need to be happy with it, but it is the court process. It is in the civil procedure rules.

As Yel has pointed out, the legal process is unfair: you can be hit by a claim and successfully defend it but still be out of pocket for legal fees.

Is BV only contesting it because Steptoe can’t afford to pay or is being understandably annoyed about her losing the case? She is a pathological liar so hope they get rinsed and the fact she is still leaking info in the Prozza Goodman case just goes to show she hasn’t changed one iota.

No, this is the legal process and everyone would have queried a bill that includes expensive hotels and meals and legal rates that are significantly higher than the court guidance.

Just look at how many cost judges there are! This is because assessing the bill at the end is part of the claim process.

Usually both parties attempt to agree the bill, because the assessment process is expensive and lengthy, but if they do not reach agreement then the bill needs to be assessed.

The headline "Vardy drags Rooney back to court" is totally misleading. In fact, it would be Rooney who is leading the detailed assessment process as she is the receiving party claiming the costs and therefore Rooney will have commenced the detailed assessment process.

She clearly hasn't leant any lessons from.thiw case has she???

So headlines stating CR's lawyer stayed in 2k hotel with a almost 300 food and mini bar bill was really a 7 quid mini bar bill for water, the solicitor didn't eat in the restaurant and the room rate was 295 per night so not the flashy stay being portrayed. Just shows how they like to play with words, sounds better to suggest a flashy hotel without stating the clear fact, it was a long enough stay given the trial was heard over 9 days.

It also seems rather ridiculous that they complained about the hotel costs at the same time as complaining about CR hiring a London firm (with obviously higher rates) instead of using a firm closer to where she lived.

That's the problem with bringing legal proceedings, get ready to pay up when you lose.

The newspapers misrepresented the facts to a great extend.

But it also wasn't a detailed assessment, as the costs had already been summarily assessed and Vardy applied to have the bill reduced.

Her application might not have been unreasonable, given that the bill was very large and the Judge said that he "only just" found in favour of Rooney.

But yes, very expensive, and I don't understand that Vardy did not agree to settle - as proposed by Rooney - as the sheer humiliation and embarrassment must be worse than the cost.

Oh wow!

The mini-bar tab was 2 bottles of WATER and only 7 pounds!!! Vardy made it sound like it was a huge amount.

I actually feel bad now as I pictured David Sherborne emptying the mini-bar of all the vodka and gin 🙈 And then it turns out he only had some WATER 😱

I hate Becky but Jamie is on like £5m a year and they will pay it off with ease. She's just trying to lower the bill and score any minor victory she can.
Half of that will go in tax, they don't strike me as the type to be eating budget cornflakes and cutting their cloth. After all for her why would she be with Jamie if not for the lifestyle. Even after tax they could afford to pay it off but he's on a rolling contract extension with Leicester, he's 37. No doubt if they get relegated and decide to offer him an extension it will be at reduced terms, one bad challenge and it could be a career ender given his age and reliance on pace. Where's his income coming from when football ends?

Not exactly pundit material or a guy brands are queuing up to work with, his popularity is more on the terraces as an 'old-school' player. On paper they should afford it fine but you never know what someone's finances are like: Craig Bellamy famously asked for an advance on his wages a few years ago and many of them including him managed to go bankrupt once the mega money stops rolling in.

Which he'd be insured for.

He's been on around £5m a year since Leicester won the title. That's plenty of money even after tax and paying for all his kids.

He takes home less than half of that and they probably have huge outgoings. Make no mistake this will be a huge dent in his earnings in his twilight years. Won't go bankrupt but a huge effect.
Coleens fees are £1,833,906.89 and she has her own bills to pay on top of that. No small bill for the vardys.

You assume he's been spending not much and got it all in savings.
That bill isn't small even for him.

He earns 7.25 million a year and the highest paid player at Leicester with 2 years left on his contract . When that all finished he will be off to Middle East if he is still fit enough and earn lots more money.
Yes lots of it will have been spent but they have a 2 mil £ villa in Portugal and he drives a Bentley so not on their uppers.
The pity is all the money which this has cost JV will have to be taken out of the money which could have been earmarked for theirs kids futures as there are 6 of them in the blended families.
